DESCRIPTION The ad notam on-wall mounting system is designed to install a glass or mirror surface protruding from the wall. It is qualified even for installations in damp locations and features a mechanical suspension mechanism at the upper edge as well as magnetic fixation elements and a locking bolt at the lower edge. The on-wall mounting system may be combined with a visual cover or LED lighting elements. 5
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING GLASS SURFACE PREPARATION The glass surface must be clean and dry. Contaminated surfaces should be cleaned with ad notam s preferred solvent. A clean lint-free cloth should be used. Use proper safety precautions for handling solvent. SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING TAPE PRIMER Shake tape primer well before using. Apply a thin uniform coating to the glass surface using the minimum amount that will fully coat the surface. Allow tape primer to dry thoroughly before applying tape. This is usually accomplished in 5 minutes at room temperature. Be sure the primed surface remains free from containments prior to applying the tape. Tape primer can be removed with ad notam s preferred solvent. Vigorous scrubbing may be required. Carefully read and follow manufacturer s precautions and directions for use when handling cleaning solvents. SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING SELF-ADHESIVE TAPE Shelf life: 6 months from day of dispatch by ad notam when stored in the original carton at 21 C [70 F] and 50% relative humidity. SAFETY INSTRUCTION REGARDING APPLYING OWMS TO GLASS Pressure: Bond strength is dependent upon the amount of adhesive-to-surface contact developed. Firm application pressure develops better adhesive contact and helps improve bond strength. Typically, good surface contact can be attained by applying enough pressure to insure that the tape experiences approximately 15 psi (100 kpa) pressure. Either roller or platen pressure can be used. Note that rigid surfaces may require 2 or 3 times that much pressure to make the tape experience 15 psi. Temperature: Ideal application temperature range is 21-38 C [70-100 F]. Initial tape application to surface at temperatures below 10 C [50 F] is not recommended because the adhesive becomes too firm to adhere readily. However once properly applied low temperature holding is generally satisfactory. Wet out time: After application, the bond strength will increase as the adhesive flows onto the surface. At room temperature approximately 50% of ultimate bond strength will be achieved after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and 100% after 72 hours. This flow is faster at higher temperatures and slower at lower temperatures. Ultimate bond strength can be achieved more quickly (and in some cases bond strength can be increased) by exposure of the bond to elevated temperatures (e.g. 66 C [150 F] for 1 hour). This can provide better adhesive wet out onto the substrates. 6
PREPARATION REQUIRED TOOLS o Phillips-tip screwdriver o Allen wrench o Level and measuring tape o Glass cleaner and clean cloths o Glass suction cups GLASS PREPARATION - STANDARD RULE OF ASSEMBLY The mounting system elements that need to be affixed on the backside of the glass surface are basically arranged at factory according to a standard rule of assembly: 90mm 3.54 centered 125mm 4.92 90mm 3.54 125mm 4.92 90mm 3.54 90mm 3.54 If you have indicated on the ad notam glass orderform that you wish to receive the glass without factory-affixed mounting system elements, they should have been enclosed to your delivery unmounted. In this case please clean the rear side of the glass surface thoroughly with glass cleaner and/or compressed air before beginning assembly. Also make sure that you know where top and bottom is. NOTE After affixing the self-adhesive mounting elements according to your specification allow 24 hours drying to ensure perfect adhesion. WARNING ad notam declines any liability for installations without factory-affixed mounting system elements. 7
138mm / 5.43 125mm / 4.92 125mm / 4.92 PREPARATION CAUTION Before getting started please notice that ad notam declines any liability for the screws and screw anchors delivered with the product. These may need to be replaced at the job site when considering the nature of the load-bearing wall, since ad notam is not familiar with the construction environment. NOTE Use the 100mm countersunk bolts and a distance ring for each fixation magnet. WALL PREPARATION Structural measures must be accomplished for an on-wall installation. A specialist should carry these out. The following indicated dimensions are only relevant for glasses prepared according to the standard rule of assembly, see section glass preparation! Mark the drill holes for the center screw of the wall mounting plate (WMP) and the fixation magnets considering the desired position of the glass surface on the wall. The drill hole for the center screw of the WMP should be marked 138mm / 5.43 below the center of the upper edge of the desired position of the glass surface. The drill holes for the fixation magnets are supposed to be marked 125mm / 4.92 from the lower edge and the sides of the desired position of the glass surface. Then drill the three holes at the marks, mount the anchors and screw the WMP incl. lock washer as well as the fixation magnets incl. distance rings securely to the wall. upper edge glass surface 125mm / 4.92 125mm / 4.92 OWMS_880 Countersunk bolt 100mm 1 x distance ring 39mm lower edge glass surface 8
PREPARATION Now mark the drill holes for the outer screws of the wall mounting plate on the wall using a level. Then drill the holes at the marks, mount the anchors and fix the WMP in place by tightening the five round head screws. uppe r edg e gla ss su rface 5 x round head screw 5 x lock washer 5 x anchor lowe r edg e gla ss su rface When all mounting elements are arranged in good order we recommend to add also the wall locking plate (WLP) in order to secure the glass on the wall. For this purpose locate the center of the WLP 130mm / 5.12 above the center of the lower edge of the desired position of the glass surface and mark the four outer drill holes on the wall. Then drill the holes at the marks, mount the anchors and fix the WLP uppe r edg incl. lock washers in place bye gtightening the round head screws. lass surfa ce lowe 130m r edg m/5 e gla ss su rface.12 4 x round head screw 4 x lock washer 4 x anchor 9
MOUNTING When the wall and the glass are prepared, use the suction cups to elevate the glass in order to let the self-adhesive glass mounting plate (assembled on the upper backside of the glass) slide-in the wall mounting plate (affixed in the upper position on the wall). When the slide-in mechanism is locked in place let the self-adhesive magnet holder plates (assembled on the lower backside of the glass) snap the fixation magnets (affixed in the lower position on the wall). NOTE The edges of the glass are very sensitive. Take care that they do not touch the wall in any way to avoid damages and split-offs. Finally screw the locking bolt with a lock washer bottom-up through the glass locking plate and the wall locking plate in order to secure the glass on the wall. 10
