You will then need to pin it evenly around the edge to meet at a side seam join and carefully stitch into place.** Tension (in st-st) 3-ply: 32 stitches and 40 rows to 10 cm. (4 inches) on a 3 1/4 mm (US 3) needle. 4-ply: 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm. (4 inches) on a 3 1/4 mm (US 3)needle. Double knitting: 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm. (4 inches) on a 4 mm (US 6) needle. **The pattern is written using the terms larger and smaller needles. For each size given (except the smallest size) there are 2 sizes of needle given. Use the larger where stated in patt and smaller of these where stated in patt. For the smallest size use the same needles throughout. Using smaller needles K across 8 stitches of left back from holder, pick up and K 10sts down left front, 8 across centre, K10sts up right front and 8 sts across right back from holder. (44sts) K 5 rows in g-st making button hole as for buttonhole border at beg of 2 nd Making up Fit sleeves in to armholes by folding in half to find centre point and sewing in place. Join sleeve and side seams. Thread ribbon through holes above frills on sleeves and above frilled bottom edge and fasten off neatly with thread. Thread ribbon through holes at waistband and leave enough to tie in a bow at the back. If desired attached bow or rosebud to centre front of waistband ribbon 3

Cardigan Back Using larger needles cast on 40sts and work 18 rows in st-st s Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows (34sts). Work 20 rows in st-st s Cast off 10 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Leave rem 14sts on holder. Left Front Using larger needles cast on 15 sts and work 2 rows in st-st. to last 2 sts, inc in next st, K1 Repeat these 2 rows 6 more times. (22sts) Work 4 rows in st-st. Fit sleeves in to armholes by folding in half to find centre point and sewing in place. Join sleeve and side seams. Thread ribbon through holes above sleeve picot and fasten join neatly with thread. Thread ribbon through holes round edge and ensuring that ribbon is not too tight or too loose that it either sags or pulls and fasten off neatly with thread. If desired attach rosebuds or bows to front of cardigan as in picture. Bonnet Using larger needles cast on 49sts. Work 3 rows in st-st. Next row: *K2tog, yfwd, rep from * to last st, K1 Starting K work 3 rows st-st. K1 Next row: *K2tog, yfwd, repeat K 1 Working in st-st work 17 rows starting with a K Next row: With knit-in lace on right side of work and ws facing knit inserting rh needle into first stitch and first hole of lace. Continue this with all stitches till row is complete. Work 3 rows st-st starting K Next row: *K2tog, yfwd, rep from * to last st, K1 Work 2 rows in st-st starting with a K ick up corresponding stitch 4 rows below and slip on to left hand needle. Work this and the 4

1 st stitch already on the needle together. Continue to do this with every stitch. This will form the picot border neatly and without having to join by sewing. However if you prefer, you can just knit the row and make the picot border by sewing together work 2 rows either side of picot row before making up. Thread wool through remaining sts and pull up tightly and fasten. Using this wool sew seam from centre back of bonnet to just the other side of the picot border. Neck edging Using smaller needles pick up and K 13 sts from picot edge to back seam, 1 st in centre and 13sts up other side from seam to picot edge. Work 5 rows in g-st. Finishing: Thread ribbon through holes above picot edge and secure neatly with thread. Sew length of ribbon to either side for tying. If desired add bows or rosebuds to centre back and front over ribbon ends of threaded through ribbons. Bootees Right shoe Using smaller needles cast on 12 sts and K 2 rows. Work as follows. Row 1: K2, inc in next st, K2, inc in next 2 sts, K2, inc in next st, K2 Row 3: K1, inc in next 2 sts, K2, inc in next 5 sts, K2, inc in next 2 sts, K2 Row 4: K Row 5: K2, inc in next st, K6, [inc in next st] 7 times, K6, inc in next st, K2 (34 sts) K 3 rows in g-st. Work 2 further rows in st-st 1 *K2tog, yfwd repeat from * to last st, K1 P 1 Join picot edge as for bonnet by working into corresponding stitch 4 rows below. Work 3 rows st-st starting P. 11, K2 tog 6 times, K11 (28sts) Next row: Cast off 4 sts, K2, so that you have 3 sts on right hand needle and cast off remaining sts. Slip remaining three sts onto other needle Rejoin yarn to remaining 3 sts and work 12 rows in g-st 1 yfwd K2 tog. Work 3 more rows g-st.
