INTRODUCTION The International Symposium of Aviation Photographers 3 rd Annual Meeting was accessioned and processed into the Dunbar Library s Special Collections and Archives in August 2004. The collection contains 37 large, mostly color, photographs of aircraft taken by 12 different aviation photographers. The photographs are filed in two oversize drawers located in Special Collections and Archives.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION The International Symposium of Aviation Photographers 3 rd Annual Meeting was held at Wright State University February 27, 28, and March 1, 2003. The symposium was sponsored by the International Society of Aviation Photographers. The International Society of Aviation Photographers was founded by Jay Miller and Chad Slattery. Jay Miller has worked in the aviation industry for nearly forty years and has written thirty plus books and numerous articles. Chad Slattery is closely associated with the Smithsonian s Air & Space Magazine, where he is contributing editor and has photographed over a dozen cover stories. The mission of the International Society of Aviation Photographers is to provide a major international forum for the art and science of aviation photography; to provide a means for the exchange of aviation photography ideas, technique, philosophy, and equipment; and perhaps most importantly, provide a mechanism for communication, education, and friendship among people who have a professional stake in, interest in, or simple love for aviation photography. The first International Symposium of Aviation Photographers was held at the American Airlines C. R. Smith Museum, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, February 22-25, 2001. The second symposium was held at Boeing Helicopter, Mesa, Arizona, February 28 to March 2, 2002.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The International Symposium of Aviation Photographers 3 rd Annual Meeting (ISAP II) Photograph Collection is a collection of aviation photographs taken by twelve members of the International Society of Aviation Photographers. The photographs document a variety of subjects including wing walking, World War II aircraft, modern military aircraft, modern commercial aircraft, and missiles. Many of these photographs were displayed at the symposium and are mounted on hollow core board. The photographs are located in oversize drawer locations 79 and 80.
