Aperture, a not-for-profit foundation, connects the photo community and its audiences with the most inspiring work, the sharpest ideas, and with each other in print, in person, and online.
About Aperture For more than sixty years, Aperture has defined the discourse about the art and culture of photography. Aperture was founded in 1952 by a group of photographers and writers: Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Barbara Morgan, Minor White, and Beaumont and Nancy Newhall. These visionaries created a new quarterly periodical, Aperture magazine, to serve photographers and photography enthusiasts worldwide. Since then, Aperture s initiatives have expanded to include book publications, traveling exhibitions, and educational programs. Aperture today is one of the world s most distinguished and influential organizations devoted to fine art photography and reaches over a million people annually. 3

APERTURE FOUNDATION BENEFIT AND AUCTION Photography has exploded as a visual medium and art form. Aperture s annual benefit is a highlight of New York s social season and routinely attracts high-level Aperture donors, major photography collectors, art dealers, and photography enthusiasts, including leaders from creative industries such as advertising, fashion, and entertainment. The funds raised from our benefit will contribute directly to the launch of a new visual-literacy curriculum for youth at local community centers and other after-school initiatives throughout New York. 6
APERTURE FOUNDATION BENEFIT AND AUCTION The benefit is our key fundraising event of the year and supports the foundation s work in publishing and education. This year s benefit will be filled with surprises and generate great excitement; a lower ticket price and more informal format will attract a broader audience. Over 100 notable figures in art, fashion, entertainment, and politics will participate in a specially curated Instagram silent auction and exhibition, and many of these contributors will attend. 7
