New Art Project: Memory Stick Men Part 2 By Biagio Occhino Sept 18, 2012 I wanted to start a new art project based on these memory modules. These are older memory modules like 100 MB (Megabyte) or so that people discard, because new computers need 1 GB (Gigabyte) or more of RAM (Random Access Memory). Computers used more and more RAM to process information and temporary store data and as people expect their computers to go faster to increase the processing speeds in this new age that electronics devices must compete so its a necessity that they must get faster in this age of new technology needed a to make our lives easier. So these older memory modules tend to get discarded as the years passed and I found myself surrounded by a pile of these no longer usable memory modules. It got me to wondering, in this new fast paced age we live, in which I truly believe we need to realize that we need to find new ways to recycle discard electronics. I wanted to come up with a was to use these memory modules, then one day I laid some chopsticks down next to some of these memory modules and in a creative inspirational flash I came up with the ideas to make these look like people. Now, here I thought this would be fun for me and children too, since adults and children would get a kick out of it. Children would be able to relate to it since I feel sometimes children have a hard time relating to Art and this would be an easier way to gain their interest and give them some insight into a what might be a new world for them thus making Art more fascinating to them. Art is enriching and has culture, with a deep meaning to it and purpose. Plus, this is a great way to have fun and to show something really different that I have yet to see out there in the Art world. We can all relate to these memory stick men made from memory modules found (well really removed) from the older Mac and PC based computers. The chopsticks and multi-colored pop-sickle sticks were ideal to use as arms and legs. I just took a pair of chopsticks (or pop-sickle sticks) cut them in half the thicker parts of the chopsticks were used for the legs the thinner parts of the chopsticks were used for the arms. I'd put the arms in opposite position with one arm up and one arm down to be more friendly. I supported the legs by using parts of CDs and DVDs as feet. I just cut up the CDs and DVDs to make them look like feet. I used to round objects like pill bottle tops, and discard kids toys (anything round, even money) to use as a face/heads. I use colored beads to make the eyes and noses. For the mouth I sometimes used a wavy plastic pieces or colored small electrical wire. Then I came up with different head pieces or tops like a pirate hats, etc. I even used electronic resistors as hair. After a created 40 memory stick men I decided a branch out and make some to be more unique like electronic men made out of a DVD / VCR combo unit. I took this apart and separate the various assemblies until I came up with what parts that looked like the body, arms and legs of these crazy looking electronic men. I just hope you do enjoy my Memory Stick Men Art Project. I think it will make you smile, maybe even bring you back to the days of your youth and you could see the fun in this Art. Oh what fun. 4 Pumpkinheads Pumpkin heads are made from Halloween light decorations that have the Pumpkin heads glued to a memory computer RAM for the body, Then I used colored wooden popsicle sticks for the arm and legs. Oh what fun.
3 Ram Extended Dinosaurs This is made from discarded kid s cute dinosaur toys chopped in half and extended with memory computer RAM for the body. The wings are made from discarded plastic parts as well... Oh what fun. 6 More Kids Extended Toys and a Weird Yellow Batman Stick figure. Made from discarded kid s toys chopped in half and extended with memory computer RAM for the body. The weird yellow figure was cool, just added Batman hood + chest shield. Saw no need to add RAM. Oh what fun.

Oh what fun. 6 Sea Shell Head RAM People Made using sea shells for heads, beads for noses and eyes, Colored and bare Pop-sickle arms and legs attached to memory computer RAM for the body. Oh what fun.
