NEW TESTAMENT MATTHEW 1 ISAIAH 53 Say Why did it take so long to write this book; times were so different then. No typewriter, little time to write, also they thought Jesus would come in their lifetime. They were telling it again and again (preaching) and never realized they needed a record. Written in the first century 60 A. D. - 80 A. D. Matthew was about 60-80 years old. Written copies of the original long gone; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Matthew was written in Hebrew and Greek version and not translated from either. Matthew 1 1 The book of the generation (To give birth.) of Jesus Christ, the son of David (14 generations, vs 17), the son of Abraham (The Bible tells us 8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: 9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth. 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime, 11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house. 12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels (body), and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever (For a future time.). 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: 15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. 16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever (Kingdom of God forever.) 2 Samuel 7:8-16). 2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren; 3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram (The Bible tells us 18 Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron, 19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab, 20 And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat
Salmon, 21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed (means servant), 22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David. Ruth 4:18-22); 4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon (The Bible tells us 2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls; 3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies. 4 And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers. 5 And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben (Firstborn of the family.); Elizur the son of Shedeur. 6 Of Simeon; Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 7 Of Judah; Nahshon the son of Amminadab. 8 Of Issachar; Nethaneel the son of Zuar. 9 Of Zebulun; Eliab the son of Helon. 10 Of the children of Joseph: of Ephraim; Elishama the son of Ammihud: of Manasseh (America in modern terms.); Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. 11 Of Benjamin; Abidan the son of Gideoni. 12 Of Dan; Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. 13 Of Asher; Pagiel the son of Ocran. 14 Of Gad; Eliasaph the son of Deuel. 15 Of Naphtali; Ahira the son of Enan. 16 These were the renowned (elect) of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Israel. Numbers 1:2-16); 5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab (The Bible tells us 31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. Hebrews 11:31); and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; 6 And Jesse begat David the king (David will always be the King of Israel in the new world; the Kingdom of God.); and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; 7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa (The Bible tells us 10 And Solomon's son was Rehoboam, Abia his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son, 11 Joram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son, 12 Amaziah his son, Azariah his son, Jotham his son, 13 Ahaz his son, Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son, 14 Amon his son, Josiah his son. I Chronicles 3:10-14); 8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias; 9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias; 10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon (Did not have children reign on the throne in Israel but Babylon they did.): 12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel (governor); 13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor; 14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud; 15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; 16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus (The Messiah; anointed one.), who is called Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise (God considered it a marriage relationship.): When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph (In that they were committed to each other and it was binding.), before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost (Spirit) (By the power of God; the spirit is not a person.). 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily (secretly). 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost (Spirit/God). 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS (The Messiah, a Saviour): for he shall save his people from their sins. (The Bible tells us 1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed (Only to the ones called by God)? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we (Israel) hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not (The people of God were blind, Israel.). 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed (Even though we reject Him; the sickness that is in
us He healed us when He called us unto Him. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all (God orchestrated the crucifixion; and we all had a part in it.). 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people (Israel) was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand (Why God was pleased to burise Him for sinners.). 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities (Christ speaking to Isaiah.). 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Why did He do it to cleanse His people and purify them.) Isaiah 53) 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord (Jehovah) by the prophet, saying (The Bible tells us 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (God with us.) Isaiah 7:14), 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS (The Messiah). MEMORY VERSE But he (Jesus) was wounded for our transgressions (sins), he was bruised for our iniquities (lawlessness): the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 BELOW IS THE SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR TOTS
ISAIAH 53 WHO HATH BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM IS THE ARM OF LORD REVEALED (Only to the ones called by God.) FOR HE (JESUS) SHALL GROW UP BEFORE HIM AS A TENDER PLANT, AND AS A ROOT OUT OF DRY GROUND: HE HATH NO FORM NOR COMELINESS; AND WHEN WE SHALL SEE HIM, THERE IS NO BEAUTY THAT WE SHOULD DESIRE HIM. HE IS DESPISED AND REJECTED OF MEN; A MAN OF SORROWS, AND ACQUAINTED WITH GRIEF: AND WE (ISRAEL) HID AS IT WERE OUT FACES FROM HIM; HE WAS DESPISED AND WE ESTEEMED HIM NOT. SURELY HE HATH BORNE OUR GRIEFS, AND CARRIED OUR SORROWS: YET WE DID ESTEEM HIM STRICKEN, SMITTEN OF GOD, AND AFFLICTED. BUT HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSION (Sin), HE WAS BRUSIED FOR OUR INIQUITIES (Lawlessness): THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE WAS UPON HIM; AND WITH HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED (Even though we reject Him; the sickness that is He healed when He called us unto Him.) ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY; WE HAVE TURNED EVERY ONE TO HIS OWN WAY; AND THE LORD HATH LAID ON HIM
THE INIQUITY OF US ALL (God orchestrated the crucifixion; and we all had a part in it.) HE WAS OPPRESSED, AND HE WAS AFFLICTED, YET HE OPENED NOT HIS MOUTH: HE IS BROUGHT AS A LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER, YET HE OPENED NOT HIS MOUTH: HE IS BROUGHT AS A LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER, AND AS A SHEEP BEFORE HER SHEARERES IS DUMB, SO HE OPENETH NOT HIS MOUTH. HE WAS TAKEN FROM PRISON AND FROM JUDGMENT: AND WHO SHALL DECLARE HIS GENERATION? FOR HE WAS CUT OFF OUT OF THE OF THE LIVING: FOR THE TRANSGRESSION MY PEOPLE (Israel) WAS HE STRICKEN. AND HE MADE HIS GRAVE WITH THE WICKED, AND WITH THE RICH IN HIS DEATH; BECAUSE HE HAD DONE NO VIOLENCE, NEITHER WAS ANY DECEIT IN HIS MOUTH. YET IT PLEASED THE LORD TO BRUISE HIM; HE HATH PUT HIM TO GRIEF: WHEN THOU SHALT MAKE HIS SOUL AN OFFERING FOR SIN, HE SHALL SEE HIS SEED, HE SHALL PROLONG HIS DAYS, AND THE PLEASURE OF THE LORD SHALL PROSPER IN HIS HAND (Why was God pleased to bruise Him for sinners.)
