WINTER BREAK DECEMBER 23, 2017 - JANUARY 1, 2018 Smith College may be closed, but Northampton isn t! Enjoy break with fellow international students there s a lot more going on than you might think 1

2 FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22 nd Grocery Van Shuttle Starting at 11:00 am, Pick-ups at JMG The grocery shuttles will run from Smith to Tran s World Market, Walmart, and Aldi grocery store between 12pm and 5pm. Full shuttle schedule is available on the ISSO website, and in an email sent by Dean Caitlin. Space on vans is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. **B43 buses are running on the no school schedule (page 8) in case you miss the shuttle. Look Park: Santa s Trains & Holiday Lights 3:20pm, meet in Cutter Living Room h SaturDAY, DECEMBER 23 rd We ll meet to take the R42 PVTA bus to Florence, MA from the Academy of Music at 3:50pm. The bus costs $1.25 each way. If you go on your own, tell the bus driver you d like to stop at Look Park it will be the next stop after Florence Center. Buses leave every hour from Look Park to come back to town. This holiday season, Look Memorial Park is celebrating this special time of the year with a selection of running model trains whirling by displays of a whimsical wonderland of Christmas favorites and village landscapes. Chat with our authentic engineers, view beautifully themed holiday trees and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus before relaxing with a holiday cookie and hot chocolate. While you enjoy Santa s Trains, you can also take a hay ride around the Park to view over 50 holiday light displays made by the park s Grounds and Maintenance staff. Tuesday, DECEMBER 26 TH Holyoke Mall trip 10:30am, Ziskind Living Room m Shop those crazy holiday sales at the mall! We ll meet and walk to the Academy of Music to take the R41 PVTA bus to Holyoke Mall. The bus costs $1.25 each way. Anyone who is interested will take the 11:00am bus to the mall, and we ll meet back up at the bus stop at 3:00pm to come back to campus. This will be a great chance to spend time with other Smithies, but feel free to go earlier or stay later. Wednesday, DECEMBER 27 TH Ice Skating @ the UMass Mullins Center! 10:30am, meet at JMG (Public Skate from 12-1:30pm) Head over to UMass with your friends to enjoy their skating rink! The B43 bus leaves at 10:30am (no School Schedule), so make sure to be on time! See Schedule below. The rink is also open on the 30th and 31st but there are different hours so check before you go. sunday, DECEMBER 31 st Northampton Winter Farmers Market 9:00am 2:00pm Smith VoTech High School, 80 Locust St, Northampton (just past Cooley Dickinson Hospital) First Night Northampton! 12:00 noon - 12:00 midnight, all over downtown Northampton Northampton comes alive on New Year s Eve! All day and night there will be performances and special deals all over town for those who have a First Night Northampton button. Sign up at the Residence Life meeting on 12/22 for a free button. Any remaining buttons will be distributed by Winter Break HRs. You can also buy a button on your own (Daytime buttons- good until 6pm: $10; All day and night buttons: $16 if you purchase ahead of time, $20 if you purchase on that day). We ll meet in the living room of your house to walk down to the first event at the Academy of Music at 12 noon, SHOW Circus Studio s Holiday Party. There will be two large performances! Every year, the Hotel Northampton rings in the New Year with a glittering ball atop the roof. Gather in the center of town to countdown the last minutes of 2017 and watch the ball rise to signify the New Year. This event is usually attended by hundreds of people - it s like a mini-times Square! FREE. monday, january 1 st Hot Chocolate Bar & Board Games 7:30pm, Ziskind Living Room/ Ziskind Basement Drink hot chocolate and play some board games with other Smithies! Move to the basement for an air hockey or table tennis tournament! tuesday, january 2 nd Pizza Dinner & a Movie 6:00pm, Cutter Living Room Now that break is almost over, let s have a relaxing night together before J-term starts. ISSO will have some pizzas delivered and the HRs will provide a choice of movies to watch together! 11
