All wrk must be the riginal design f the artist; the essential wrk required t make each finished piece must be dne by the artist. The artist is expected t be the majr cntributr f the time required in the essential prductin f the wrk. Helpers r assistants d nt replace the artist in the prductin f a piece. They are permitted t assist in the nn-essential and mre mundane prcesses that g int the prductin f a Page 3 f 9

finished piece. The nly exceptins allwed are defined in Exhibitin Standards #2. 2. N mre than 25 percent f the wrk in an exhibitr s bth may be reprductins; this plicy applies t all media. Each piece must be clearly marked with the wrd reprductin. Exhibitrs must use the wrd reprductin ; ther terms, including print, may nt be used t refer t a reprductin. The presentatin f the reprductins must play a visually subrdinate rle t the entirety f the exhibitr s display. Reprductins f the artist s wn riginal wrk are the nly reprductins allwed within the artist s bth. Determinatin f what cnstitutes an riginal r a reprductin is determined by The Guild f Artists & Artisans. The decisin f The Guild is final. 3. All wrk must be safe, nn-txic, and fit fr its intended use. If any wrk requires special r limited use, this will be fully disclsed and explained t the public. 4. Any cmmercially prduced parts used in a wrk must play a subrdinate rle and may nt be sld separately. 5. A mass-prduced, cluttered r cmmercial appearance t an artist display is nt permitted. Limited multiples f items may be displayed where clr and size are varied and are required t shw clearly the range f items available fr sale t fair attendees. Hwever, if the display presents an verwhelming number f multiples resulting in a cmmercial appearance, as determined by the Standards Cmmittee, n-site adjustments will be requested and cmpliance will be required. 6. The artwrk exhibited by the artist at the event must match the quality and balance f the images submitted t the event jury. The artwrk exhibited at the event by the artist must als match the scpe and vlume f the images submitted fr the event jury. An artist is nt permitted t submit images presenting cmplex and detailed artwrk but cme t the event with a large quantity (mre than 15 percent f the wrk displayed) f simple wrk. If artists wish t display a large quantity f simple wrk, it must be presented in the same prprtin as presented in the jury images. Nte: The Guild understands that small wrk can be an imprtant and essential sale item fr an artist, therefre, an artist may display up t 15 percent f small wrk withut a separate review r jury image. The small wrk must be clearly shwn in the artist s bth image. In additin, it is als understd (and encuraged) that experimentatin with new wrk is part f the creative prcess. Ten percent f an artist s display may be devted t new wrk, withut a separate review r jury image, if the new wrk is within the same medium and if the new wrk is f cmparable quality t the artwrk presented in the artist s review r jury images. Exemptins If an artist believes his r her wrk transcends these standards, the artist is welcmed t apply t The Guild s Standards Cmmittee fr determinatin f eligibility. The request must be made in writing at least 60 days prir t the fair fr which the determinatin is requested. There is n guarantee that an exemptin will be granted. The decisin f The Page 4 f 9

Guild is final. Acceptability f Specific Wrk In an effrt t help artists determine whether their specific artwrk cmplies with the event s Exhibitin Standards, the event has prepared the fllwing list f artwrk that des nt meet the requirements. This list is a guideline t help artists determine whether r nt their artwrk is eligible; it is neither exhaustive, nr is unacceptable wrk limited t the items listed. Ineligible wrk includes but is nt limited t: Jewelry Cut cin jewelry Enamels n manufactured representatinal cpper shapes Jewelry made f manufactured cmpnents Jewelry made frm flatware Cmmercial beads. Beads must be made by the artist. There are nly tw exemptins t this rule: 1. If the beads are nt made by the artist, they must clearly play a subrdinate rle in the finished piece; and, 2. The requirement that beads must be made by the artist des nt apply in the technique knwn as bead weaving; hwever, cmmercial bead weaving kits are nt permitted. Stud earrings in cmmercial settings Pearls whether in necklaces r bracelets. Nte: Simple-strung r hand kntted-strung pearls are nt eligible even if the pearls have been simple-strung r hand kntted-strung by the artist. Pearl necklaces and/r bracelets may be included if they have an rnament r fastener that is bth intricate and a fcal pint f the piece, handmade by the artist and is f greater value than the piece frm which it is hung r attached. Drilled pearls r pearls that have been altered, but nt by the artist, are nt eligible; such pearls are cnsidered t be purchased beads and are subject t all purchased bead rules. Pearl earrings are permitted as lng as the setting has been designed and handmade by the artist. At all Guild fairs, every attempt will be made t infrm artists as sn as pssible f vilatins by issuing a Standards Warning. This warning gives the exhibiting artist a chance t crrect the prblem withut penalty as lng as the crrectin is immediate. If the prblem is nt crrected r if the vilatin is a cntinuing prblem, the artist will be subject t strnger cnsequences that may include lss f exhibiting privileges and/r being required t clse his r her bth immediately and vacate the bth space at the end f the event day. If the Cmmittee is nt able t reslve a prblem during the fair, the Cmmittee will review the situatin and determine any necessary actin fllwing the event. The Standards Cmmittee will make a gd faith effrt t infrm artists f any ptential standards prblems and what steps t take t crrect the prblems fllwing the Standards Review r the event jury. Hwever, it is the respnsibility f the artists t cmply with the Exhibitin Standards. There are tw exhibitin standards that are cnsidered t be invilable under any circumstances: 1. Engaging in buy-sell practices, that is, buying the wrk dne by anther and selling it as yur wn; r 2. Selling cmmercially prduced reprductins f the wrk f anther artist. If it is discvered that an artist has engaged in either f these practices, that artist will lse event exhibiting privileges immediately and permanently. Exhibitin Rules RULE 1: Exhibitrs must cmply with all lcal rdinances, regulatins, and rules. These rules include but are nt limited t: Fire lanes shall nt cntain strage r any ther bstructins. Walk-thrugh sidewalk-street cnnectins shall nt cntain strage r any ther bstructins. Vehicles are nt permitted within the barricades during fair hurs. All bth material, tarps and ther cverings shall be fire-retardant r fire resistant. Open flames are nt allwed. N gasline, kersene r mtr ils are permitted in the fair area. Page 6 f 9

RULE 2: Bth spaces may nt be transferred r therwise reassigned by the artist. RULE 3: By ne hur prir t fair pening n the fair s first day, artists must have claimed (by their presence, r [if necessary] by phne) their bth space, therwise their space may be resld with n refund issued. RULE 4a: Exhibitrs must be present at the fair n less than 60 percent f each day. If the exhibitr is fund t be in vilatin f this rule, the exhibitr s bth must clse immediately and remain clsed until the exhibitr returns t the bth. RULE 4b: Exhibitrs (and/r their artwrk) cannt take part in any ther Ann Arbr Fair (fficial r therwise) which runs cncurrently with the Guild s Ann Arbr Summer Art Fair. If an exhibitr is fund in vilatin f this rule, the exhibitr will be required t clse his r her Ann Arbr Summer Art Fair bth immediately, vacate the bth space at the end f the event day, and frfeit all bth fees. RULE 5: Bth structure and display must nt exceed the limits f the assigned space. Artwrk hanging frm display panels will nt bstruct, r blck clear and free passage. If yur artwrk is hazardus, r interferes with yur neighbr yu will be asked t remve it. Bth substructure must nt impede water flw. RULE 6: Bth hlders may share their space with n mre than ne ther membership hlder. RULE 7: Picture I.D. is required fr fair registratin, and must be presented upn the request f Rules Cmmittee members r Guild staff at any time during the fair. RULE 8: Unless artists are fficially ntified f a fair emergency, bths must be pen at the fair starting time and nt clse befre the fair clsing time. Artists cncerned with their persnal safety may clse. Artists are expected t repen as sn as the dangerus situatin has ended. RULE 9: All Strage must be neatly cncealed within the bth structure. If the exhibitr is fund t be in vilatin f this rule, the exhibitr s bth will be required t clse and remain clsed until the strage issue is crrected. RULE 10: Signs advertising sales r markdwns are prhibited. RULE 11: Pets are prhibited n the fair site. Service animals are permitted. RULE 12: On-site cnsumptin f alchlic beverages during fair hurs is prhibited. RULE 13: N debris may be left behind after tearing dwn. Rule 14: Rude, bscene r abusive language and/r threatened, actual physical restraint and/r abuse f anther Guild member, Guild staff r general public are prhibited. Page 7 f 9

Rule 15: There are specific chair and table rules fr the Ann Arbr Summer Fair: 1) N tables r chairs are permitted utside the bth structure n bth Main and Liberty streets; 2) Fr State street, each bth is allwed tw chairs and ne table, the table and chairs must be directly behind and adjacent t the bth, the table may nt exceed 24 x 24, n visible strage is allwed within r n the table. The rule regarding the placement f chairs and tables may vary in each Guild event and/r may vary thrughut the layut f a specific event. Exhibitrs are required t adhere t the chair and table regulatins established fr the Guild event in which they are participating. RULE 16: Use f sidewalks and planters is strictly prhibited. Abslutely n items f any kind are allwed n University prperty. Bths, chairs, tables and strage must be cntained within the artist s assigned street space (see Rule 15). RULE 17: Overhangs are nt permitted n the fire lane side f yur bth (street side). Overhangs are permitted (1) n State Street bths n the sidewalk side, (2) in the rear f Main Street bths, s lng as the verhang des nt extend ver the sidewalk, and (3) n crner bths n any street, the verhang t extend int the pedestrian aisle nly. Overhangs may nt exceed 30, must be at least 80 abve the curb and may nt interfere with any ther exhibitr s bth r the traffic flw, r be used fr display, signs, etc. RULE 18: Demnstratins are allwed within the assigned bth space. All ther requests are decided n a case-by-case basis by the Rules Cmmittee. RULE 19: Sabbaticals may be taken every ther year. A sabbatical is available nly t preserve a cntinuing space hlder s privilege t return t his r her space the fllwing year. Sabbaticals may nt be taken in cnsecutive years; a sabbatical may nt be taken t preserve a cntinuing space first assigned the year the sabbatical is requested. Rules Vilatins: Vilatins f the Exhibitin Rules will be handled by the Rules Cmmittee and designated Guild Staff. At all Guild fairs, every attempt will be made t infrm artists as sn as pssible f vilatins by issuing a Rules Vilatin Warning. This warning gives the exhibiting artist a chance t crrect the prblem withut penalty as lng as the crrectin is immediate. If the prblem is nt crrected r if the vilatin is a cntinuing prblem, the artist will be subject t strnger cnsequences that may include lss f exhibiting privileges and/r being required t clse his r her bth immediately, vacate the bth space at the end f the event day, and frfeit all bth fees. Fr minr infractins, exhibitrs may receive pints fr the rules vilatins. Vilatins may be issued during r after a fair. Frm ne (1) t ten (10) pints may be assessed per vilatin. Accumulatin f ten (10) pints ver a three-year perid results in the suspensin f exhibiting privileges fr 13 mnths frm the fair date f the vilatin resulting in the ten-pint ttal. If the Cmmittee is nt able t reslve a prblem during the fair, the Cmmittee will review the situatin and determine any necessary actin fllwing the event. Page 8 f 9

Appeals: Exhibitrs have the right t an appeal in persn r in writing t the Rules Cmmittee after vilatin pints are given.
