SPRING ARTS EVENT Gateway Arts Council is proud to announce that the Spring Fling Fine Art Exhibit has been rechristened as the Gateway Arts Council s Spring Arts Event and Juried Arts Competition. The name change recognizes the inclusion of other art genres in the spring event. Along with the traditional Visual Arts Competition and Exhibit, Gateway added a culinary arts and literary arts competition. For nearly two decades, the Visual Arts Competition (Spring Fling), widely known as the areas premier art show, is still the heart of the Spring Arts Event. Fine artists throughout western Ohio and eastern Indiana are invited to enter their work in this juried competition. Page 2 The Culinary Arts competition is tasty addition to the Spring Arts Event. This season, ambitious cooks are invited to prepare delicious hors d eouvres. Whether a simple recipe or an eclectic creation, original recipes are encouraged. Accept the challenge and execute mouth-watering appetizers in this competition. Page 7 A Literary Arts Competition has also been added to this year s Spring Arts Event. Aspiring authors are invited to pen short stories (fiction or nonfiction), essays, and/or narrative poetry. Find your voice and present a fresh point of view by entering this competition. 2017 JURIED FINE ART EXHIBIT Gateway Arts Council invites you to submit up to 3 entries in the Juried Fine Art Exhibit. This juried exhibit will take place at Gateway Arts Council s gallery located at 216 N. Miami Ave. in Sidney, Ohio. There will be cash prizes and awards for this exhibit. ELIGIBILITY The Spring Art Event is open to all artists, 16 years of age and older. All fine art work must be original and completed within the last 3 years. No commercial kits or molds will be accepted. Students may not enter work if they have had assistance in executing their work. Artwork previously submitted to a Fine Art Exhibit, such as Spring Fling, is ineligible. JURY PROCESS The 2017 Fine Art Exhibit will be comprised of approximately 130 pieces of art. There will be two rounds of judging. Round One will determine which pieces of art hang in the Fine Art Exhibit and will be done once all art work has been received by Gateway Arts Council. Round Two will determine the winners in each category and is typically done two to three days before the opening reception. The awards round will be judged by an independent juror who is invited each year to evaluate the work of the artists in the exhibit and will select the winners in each category. During the Entire Jury Process: Artist applications remain anonymous. Scoring is 1 (low) to 7 (high) Scoring is based on uniqueness, design, technique, and craftsmanship. All juror s scores are combined and averaged. Only the averaged score will be available to artists. Notification will be given via E-MAIL* about which pieces of art will be included in the Fine Art Exhibit. Artwork that is not being hung in the exhibit should be picked up at Gateway Arts Council before the reception on Friday, May, 5th, 2017 or by appointment. Artists not providing an e-mail address will be notified by phone. EXHIBIT DATES The Fine Art Exhibit will be open to the public from May 5th - May 19th. Hours will be Monday - Friday 10 AM - 4 PM with evening and weekend hours by appointment. ALL ARTWORK MUST REMAIN THROUGH THE ENTIRE EXHIBIT RUN. 2

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK: Saturday, April 22, 2017 10AM - 1PM Artwork may be delivered early, please call ahead REMOVAL OF ARTWORK: Saturday, May 20, 2016 10 AM - 1 PM Removal after May 20th is possible by appointment MEDIUM & CATEGORY Categories are listed below with examples of mediums within those categories. Please fill out your entry form accordingly. NO MORE THAN 10% OF THE WORK MAY BE FROM OUTSIDE THE CATEGORY, OR THE PIECE WILL BE CONSIDERED MIXED MEDIA. Drawing - 1 Graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoal, chalk, pastels, markers, styluses, and metals (such as silverpoint) Water Media - 2 Watercolor, gouache, and other media used in an aqueous manner Oil & Acrylics - 3 Oil and acrylics Photography - 4 Film, digital, color, black & white, and toned gelatin silver prints *Must be flat prints only Three-Dimensional Works - 5 Bronze, wood, marble, glass, ceramics, paper, and miscellaneous Miscellaneous - 6 Prints, textiles, mixed media, computer art, etc. Be advised, Gateway Arts Council and its volunteers will categorize pieces at their discretion if the entry form is not properly completed. BE SURE TO MARK THE CATEGORY NUMBER AND MEDIUM ON ENTRY FORM. FINE ART ENTRY INFORMATION Entry fee is $30, which includes up to 3 pieces, regardless of medium. The fee is non-refundable. Please make checks payable to Gateway Arts Council. 3

ENTRY PROCEDURE Please return the completed entry form along with the entry fee to Gateway Arts Council at PO Box 14, Sidney, OH 45365. Entry forms and fees may also be hand delivered to Gateway Arts Council, 216 N. Miami Ave iduring business hours. The Fine Art Exhibit will be limited to 130 pieces of work. Gateway Arts Council reserves the right to refuse any entry and/or withdraw any work from the exhibit at its discretion. Submission implies consent to photographing of artist/work for cataloging or publicity purposes. Any questions can be directed to Ellen Keyes at Gateway Arts Council by calling (937) 498-2787. Any changes to your entry must be made no later than the day work is dropped off. PREPARATION OF ARTWORK Any work that is to be hung MUST be framed and/or wired with enough support to securely hold the piece. NO saw-tooth or cardboard hangers are permitted, artwork MUST HAVE A WIRE HANGER. Size and weight of the work is limited to that which can be moved by one person and must be no larger than 4 feet high/wide. GATEWAY ARTS COUNCIL WILL PROVIDE LABELS THAT WILL BE ATTACHED WHEN WORK IS DROPPED OFF. Please allow time to do so when dropping off your work. DELIVERY/PICKUP OF ARTWORK Artwork is to be delivered to Gateway Arts Council (216 N. Miami Sidney, Ohio) on April 22nd, 2016 from 10 AM - 1 PM and must be removed Saturday, May 20th, 2016 from 10 AM - 1 PM. All pieces must be signed in and out by the artist. If you will be sending a representative to deliver or pick-up, please make note when sending in your entry form. Early delivery is possible by calling the Gateway offices at 937-492-2787. With prior arrangements, late removals can be picked up at Gateway Arts Council Gallery. GATEWAY ARTS COUNCIL ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE, THEFT, ETC. CULINARY ARTS COMPETITION This year s competition will be HORS D OEUVRES. An entry consists of two varieties of hors d oeuvres, with each serving 25. The hors d oeuvres should be suitable for a party. The items should be tastefully arranged and garnished. ELIGIBILITY The Culinary Competition is open to all culinarians 16 years of age and older. Original recipes are encouraged. CULINARY ARTS GUIDE LINES All entries must have a completed recipe. Recipes should contain the name, address, and telephone number of the competitor and should be submitted with the entry form on or before the deadline date. Competitor are expected to provide serving dishes and other utensils to display their work. Competitors will be responsible for the cost of all ingredients used. Competitors will have their completed HORS D OEUVRES to Gateway Arts Council on May 5, 2017 by 4:00 PM. Judging will occur at 5:00 PM. After judging if complete, entries will be served to the guests at the Spring Arts reception that evening. JUDGING PROCESS The 2017 Culinary Arts Competition will be judged in the following areas: Presentation Portion Size Creativity and Ingredient Compatibility AWARDS & PRIZES Announced at the Award Reception on May 5th, 2017 at 6PM, awards and prizes are as follows: FIRST PLACE $200 SECOND PLACE Ribbon THIRD PLACE Ribbon PEOPLE S CHOICE Ribbon 7

LITERARY ARTS COMPETITION The Gateway Arts Council Literary Competition offers recognition for writers in the categories of short stories(fiction and nonfiction), essays, and/or narrative poetry. ELIGIBILITY The Literary Competition is open to all authors 16 years of age and older. Original recipes are encouraged. LITERARY ARTS GUIDE LINES Competition genres are short stories (fiction and nonfiction), essays, and/or narrative poetry Submissions must be in Microsoft Word document. Use 12 point font with double spacing. Paperclip the pages together (no staples please). Narrative poetry 4-50 lines, short stories and essays 1000 word maximum. Entries will not be returned. Please retain a copy of your submissions for your records. Each entry will have a cover sheet that includes the author s name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, submission genre (poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction), and word count must appear on a cover sheet with each entry. Reading will be blind, please remove your name and any identifying information from the actual manuscript itself. Otherwise, we will be unable to consider it. Entries must be submitted to Gateway Arts Council by April 14, 2017. Entrants must mail a check in the amount of $10 per entry. All writing must be original works and not published. Published includes appearance on any internet source except a blog. DISQUALIFICATION RULES: Entries over specified word counts; documents without a title; documents with names exposed; or use of profanity can be disqualified. Entrants will not receive a refund. No cover pages, explanations, synopses, prologues, illustrations, or photos allowed.
