Airflow thru the bleed screw hole should be detectable while the log splitter is in use.before moving the log splitter, make sure the bleed screw is tightened to avoid oil leaking from the unit. MAXIMUM PRESSURE LIMITING SCREW Maximum pressure was set before the log splitter left the factory, and the maximum pressure limiting screw is sealed with glue to ensure the log splitter works under pressure of no more than 7 tons. The setting was carried out by a qualified mechanic with professional instruments. Unauthorized resetting will cause the hydraulic pump to fail to output enough splitting pressure, or will RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO THE MACHINE. KNOW YOUR LOG SPLITTER The safe use of this product requires an understanding of the information on the product, this instruction manual as well as a knowledge of the project you are attempting. Before use of this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules.! FAILURE TO LOOSEN THE BLEED SCREW WILL CAUSE THE SEALED AIR IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM TO BE COMPRESSED AFTER BEING DECOMPRESSED. 8 OPERATING CONDITIONS This log splitter is a home-use model. It is designed to operate in conditions no colder than -4 F (-20 C). It can be stored or transported at temperatures between -13 and 130 F (between -25 and 55 C). ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS Operation Connect the main leads to a standard 120 V 10% (60 Hz 1 Hz) electrical supply that has under-voltage, over-voltage, and over-current protection devices as well as a residual current device (RCD) with a maximum residual current rated at 0.03 A. Operator must be positioned at the control end of the log splitter (shown) when the log splitter is being operated. This log splitter is equipped with the ZHB control system that requires the user to operate it using both hands. The left hand controls the hydraulic control lever while the right hand controls the pushbutton switch. The log splitter will only operate if both controls are used. The log pusher only starts to return to the starting position after both hands release the controls.

The splitting force and speed are governed by a 2-stage control lever. Push the lever to setting I, about half-way, for faster speed at less splitting force to split softwood. Push the lever to setting II, all the way, for maximum splitting force at slower speed to split hardwood. Shift between stages by simply raising and lowering the lever. After 5 seconds, the oil under pressure will be overheated, and the machine could be damaged. For such extremely hard logs, rotate the log by 90 to see whether it can be split in a different direction. If you are not able to split the log, this means that its hardness exceeds the capacity of the machine, and the log should be discarded to protect the log splitter. Operation Always set logs firmly on the log retaining plates and worktable. Make sure logs will not twist, rock or slip while being split. Do not force the blade by splitting the log on the upper part. This will break the blade or damage the machine. Break the log in the direction of its growing grain. Do not place the log across the log splitter for splitting. It may be dangerous, and may seriously damage the machine. Do not attempt to split 2 logs at the same time. One of them may fly up and hit the operator.! WARNING! Never force the log splitter for more than 5 seconds when attempting to split excessively hard wood.

Operation FREEING A JAMMED LOG Release both controls. After the log pusher moves back to its starting position and comes to a complete stop, insert a wood wedge under the jammed log. Start the log splitter to push the wood wedge completely under the jammed one. Repeat the above procedure with sharper sloped wood wedges until the log is completely freed. Do not try to knock the jammed log off. Knocking the log will damage the log splitter, or it may cause the log to fly out of the log splitter, which could result in an injury.

REPLACING THE HYDRAULIC OIL Replace the hydraulic oil in the log splitter after every 400 hours of use. Take the following steps to replace it. Make sure all moving parts are stopped and the log splitter is unplugged. Unscrew the oil drain bolt with dipstick to remove it. Turn the log splitter on the support leg side over a 2 - gal (8 - l) capacity container to drain the hydraulic oil off. Turn the log splitter onto the motor side. Refill with fresh hydraulic oil to the proper volume for the hydraulic oil capacity of the particular model, as indicated in the specifications table (1.6 Gal [6.3 L]). Clean the surface of the dipstick on the oil drain bolt, and put it back into the oil tank, while keeping the log splitter vertical. Make sure the level of the refilled oil is between the 2 grooves on the dipstick. Clean the oil drain bolt before placing it back on the unit. Make sure parts are tightened to avoid leaks. Return the log splitter to the horizontal position. Maintenance Periodically check the oil level to ensure that it is between the 2 grooves on the dipstick. If oil is low, add oil to reach the required level.

Maintenance The Following hydraulic oils, or equivalent, are recommended for the log splitter s hydraulic transmission system: Dexron III Automotive Transmission Fluid SHELL Tellus 22 MOBIL DTE 11 ARAL Vitam GF 22 BP Energol HLP-HM 22 Used oil is a hazardous waste product and must be disposed of properly. Do not discard with household waste. Check with your local authorities, service centre, or dealer for safe disposal/ recycling facilities. SHARPENING THE WEDGE Sharpen the wedge of the log splitter after extended use, or if the wedge becomes dull, by using a fine-toothed file to smooth any burrs or crushed areas along the cutting edge.! NOTE! Please dispose of used hydraulic oil in a manner that is compatible with the environment.

Problem Cause Remedy The log splitter fails to split logs. The log is improperly positioned. the size or hardness of the log exceeds the capacity of the machine. the cutting edge of the wedge is blunt. there is an oil leak. Unauthorized adjustment was made to the maximum pressure limiting screw. A lower maximum pressure rating was set. Refer to the section entitled operation for correct positioning. Use a smaller log. Refer to the section entitled sharpening the wedge to sharpen the cutting edge. Locate the leak(s), and contact YARDWORKS for assistance. The maximum pressure limiting screw must be adjusted by an authorized repair depot. Please contact YARDWORKS for assistance. Troubleshooting The log pusher moves jerkily, making unfamiliar noises or vibrating excessively. Oil leaks around the cylinder ram or from other points. Lack of hydraulic oil and excessive air in the hydraulic system. Air was sealed in the hydraulic system while operating. The bleed screw was not tightened before moving the log splitter. The oil drain bolt with dipstick is not tight. Check the oil level, and refill it if required. Contact YARDWORKS for assistance. Loosen the bleed screw before operating the log splitter. Tighten the bleed screw before moving the log splitter. Tighten the oil drain bolt with dipstick. The hydraulic control valve assembly and/or seal is worn. Contact YARDWORKS for assistance.
