In parallel, the role that technology plays as an engine for growth has taken center stage in recent years for smart cities & living around the globe. Emerging Trends for Smart City & Living 2016 Today, cities around the world are seen as the engines for sustainable economic growth. And more than ever before the growth that cities can achieve is strongly linked to their power to tackle economic, social and environmental issues in a holistic manner, whilst making the most of emerging technology. Contemporary cities and homes are looking increasingly for smart, flexible solutions to save energy, improve livability and boost a sustainable urban economy. Technology can play a major role in the evolution toward such smarter environments. This includes smart homes and buildings, smart grids, smart retail, smart security, smart education, smart healthcare, and smart mobility. In a nutshell, cities and our lives are becoming smarter. This is also evident in the growth of the market, which was valued at US$575.01 billion in 2014 and is expected to reach US$1,240.00 billion by 2019, growing at a CAGR of 16.6 percent (Gartner, 2015). In light of these developments, the current Startupbootcamp accelerator is centered around Smart City & Living. To enable organizations, startups, and governments to join forces for fuelling disruptive innovation within this space.. The startups within the program have created innovative solutions to enable cities, organizations, and homes to become more intelligent, interconnected, and efficient. A combined effort of all players within the ecosystem will facilitate the further development of smarter cities and homes, globally 2

The following sections will highlight the startups that are playing a disruptive role within each trend. 3

Simulated Reality The power of augmented and virtual reality includes immersing users in curated surroundings, replicating cities and living environments. In addition, it overlays contextual information into the physical environment of the user. This has fueled organizations to fast-track AR and VR plans to transform businesses, cities, and homes. AR and VR are built to enable users to focus on an immersive experience rather than technology. Hence, this trends hold enormous value for organizations to communicate, interact and collaborate with their users. These technologies are still in early-stages of development, but rapidly advancing. Forward-thinking organizations should begin exploring and exploiting the advantage of these tools. theconstruct s vision is to provide a simple and effective way to automatically virtualize 3D Models regardless of the format. theconstruct employs cutting edge technology and patentable software which has been co-developed with the University of Gdansk (Polytechnica). New solutions enable connecting transport systems, passengers, and resources in real-time to enable efficient, convenient, and low-carbon movement within cities. It includes a variety of hardware and software solutions that can be incorporated into transportation infrastructure and in vehicles as well.
