Ordering a Printed Proof Copy Now it s time to approve the proof, order a proof or make changes. At this point I like to order a proof so I can see for myself how my cover looks and also, I can sit with my book in hand and proof it with a pencel. So I will sellect Order a Printed Proof. 107
This window will come up. This is your price per copy, not your reader s cost. This is where you tell CreateSpace where to ship your Proof book. This could be to your editor s house, our sisters or your grandmother s. Doesn t matter. This will also be the page when you order books for book readings and personal gifts and personal orders from people wanting to buy the book directly from you. Keep in mind that depending on the price of a book, I make more profit from my Kindle Books than in print. 108
This is how you want Create Space to bill you for Shipping. You have options. You ll get a confirmation of order by e-mail: Thank you for ordering a proof of How To Play Three Position Football, Title #3733851. Your order has shipped. Once you receive your proof, please review it thoroughly. Check our proofing guidelines to learn how to evaluate your proof. When you are ready to make your title available for sale, simply: Review your proof copy for accuracy 109 Go to your Project Homepage Click "Approve Proof" to make your title available for sale If you are not completely satisfied with your proof: Make necessary changes to your files Resubmit them for review Order another proof once those new files have been approved
Proofing your Printed Proof Book Within 3-7 days you ll get a UPS shipment in for your book. Watch your front door. They won t knock beause it doesn t need to be signed for. Check to make sure you are happy with the cover fit. Including the binding. Then take your time to proof your book one more time. You should have proofed it at least 6-7 times already, maybe had someone else read over it if you could. If it s in your budget, hire a freelance editor to go over your book before you started this process. Given that, if you are doing your own editing. This next step is crusual to getting your book in the best shape you know how. I send my sister a proof copy, and when she goes over it, I have her send it back to me for me to go over it again. Trust me, typos and mistakes are like coachroachs, they are always there. Even in the most professionally edited books, you will find them. So don t cry over wasted ink. Just fix them as you find them. Even after you approved the proof and have published. You can fix and resend up a copy in PDF whenever you want. That is part of the charm of self-publishing through CreateSpace. There isn t a box of books you had to order sitting in your basement. 110
What you see here is me checking off the corrections as I put them back into my document. 111
Once you have edited your book you must go back and turn it back into a PDF. Approving Your Book 112
To resubmit your book to Createspace. Just follow the same steps beginning on page 47 and wait for a confirmation, then review the electric proofer again, and if you re good with it, approve it this time instead of ordering a proof. See page 107 for instructions. If you want some copies, order them. 113
You get this. Approve. 114
This will give you an idea of when your book will be available. Your book is availbe now on CreateSpace and will be available on Amazon within 5-7 days but it s always within a matter of a day or so. And the features Amazon offers, like Look Inside and Author Central will grow as they work on your file uploads. 115
This is the page I built while setting up my e-store page. 116
When people come to this page beause you most likely sent it to them, they will press on buy and get this window. They will be asked to log in or to create a CreateSpace account. 117

Search for your books by filling out search box with choices that track your book. Amazon will do a search and list your book. Click This Is My Book. 120
This window tells you that your book has been added. Amazon let s you know that as soon as it can it will add your book to your author page. 121
Once it is, it will look like this, and you can go in and add things and make changes. This info will over ride what s on your e-store page and will end up on your book s Amazon page. 122
Author s Amazon All your books will be listed on the same page. You will have to ask them sometimes to link both your Kingle Book and paperback within the same link. There s a request option on your home page at the bottom. Just fill it out and request to link the books. And they will write back in day or so to confirm that it is. 123
Each book get s it s own page for all the details and review, pricing, even videos about your book. I probably won t be adding this to kindle because of the script formatting inside, but I ll give I a shot to see if I can maintain the formating, HTML. 124
Every Author gets his own Amazon Page. This is Karl s Amazon.com. I have to add my teaching at IUPUI to my bio, now. 125
You can add videos. You ll find I have a Gym Coach speaking about my book Three Position Football on my Amazon Home Page 126
Amazon adds a look inside program. 127
They have part the Prologue, the First Chapter and part of the second chapter. They also included the Prologue of the next book Alien Biz. 128
Your Book on Kindle Kindle is a different world. A lot simpler in steps, too. The reports are simpler but very easy to track. 129
As it says above, this is my bookshelf. It lists what books I have available and what are in Draft format. You ll see a KDP Select Fund that if you apply your books to them your books can be read for free and you get paid out of this fund. So you don t lose money. 130
Your opening report page is this. Select the top one. Month to date/ 131
Just the one book showing up so far. 132
Another book the next time I checked. See what I get per Kindle book out of my pricing. I get 70%. You couldn t dream of getting that much form a traditional publisher. 133
You can get monthly reports as well. 134
As you can see they are pretty thorough, and if you take the time to understand them, it will teach you even more of the business details on how publishing companies make money-selling books. 135
Let s take a look at the first of two pages you have to fill out to upload a book. Again all this info you feed into the blank spaces will appear on your book s page. Even the cover, so make sure it s the very best you have to offer in detail and artwork. Note: KDP is a book giveaway program that pays you even though the reader gets your book free. 136
Most of this is self-explanatory. Enter your book details: Book Name, Series, Series Title, Edition, Description, Book Contributors, meaning authors, Language, Publisher, the date is optional here, where as in paperback CreateSpace uses the date it s uploaded. You do not need an ISBN number for electronic books. Amazon will assign your E-Book an ASIN: B008R51HRK. (Sample from Alien Biz). 137
Let the world, and Amazon, know you own the rights to this book. Categories is for letting people know what genre your book is, Sci-Fi, Romance, Horror, etc. It allows you to add search words to help people find your book. There s ways on Amazon to find out what key words are the most searched. Check out your author page and you ll find these search engines. 138
On you books Kindle Page as seen here, you can add and change search words to help people find your book.. 139
Further down your book page you ll find essential info such ISBN - ASIN for Kindle and ISBN number for paperback. Who the publisher is, reviews, when it was put on Kindle, and that it is available on kindle as Text-to-Speech, available for Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle (2nd generation), and Kindle DX. 140
Remember that cover art for my book that was just the front cover? This is what it s for, Kindle Books. And your website and, too. CreateSpace will crop a cover from your PDF and add it to your Create Space page. See: https://www.createspace.com/3594180. With Kindle Books you ll upload your book cover in PNG or Jpeg and your book in either Word or HTML if you have pictures in the interior of your book, such I had in The Polish Gang: ASIN: B005SRPJQA. Kindle will add your book cover to the Look Inside feature on your Amazon Page. 141
It gives you an option of previewing your book once it s been uploaded for review by Kindle. 142
You can view it anytime after it becomes live on Kindle, or before you submit it. If you find mistakes in your paperback, don t forget to come back to your Kindle Edition and make the same corrections and re-up upload your book here in Word, HTML, or other approved software, but not PDF. PDF files do not upload well in E-Books. 143
This next part is to find out what rights you own on your books. You ll mark worldwide unless you ve sold rights to someone. And in that case congratulations. 144
Pricing, Kindle was allowing authors to give their books away to boost readership, or sold for 99 cents to promote a series or other books at full price. 2.99, is a common price option for Kindle Books. Your book has to be at least $2.99 to get the %70 percent royalty. You can see all the other sales changes are figured for you. All you have to do is choose what price you d like to set. 145
Here Kindle is asking if you want to lend books. You can still save or publish if you re done. If you re done hit Save and Publish. This will bring you back to your Dashboard. 146
Here it will let you know your book is being reviewed and will be Live soon. If you have saved it for later you ll get a Draft notice under status. This page tells you at a glance what is going on with your titles, date submitted, list price, author and title. It also lets you know you re enrolled with KDP Select or not. This is where you begin to add new titles, or hit actions button to make changes. 147
