Team Speak 2 Client Setup Tutorial: I made this tutorial for clan members with the hope that it will help you in the setting up of Team Speak Client. I wrote this with the understanding that you have already downloaded and installed Team Speak. I will walk you through step by step on how to set it up so that you can connect to the Team Speak server. First off let me explain briefly what Team Speak is and what it does. Team Speak is a software that will let you talk to people over the internet real time. We use it for when playing online. It can be run in the back ground of any online game and you can talk to people on the same server playing the same game or just chat to friends in real time. You mist have either a mic and speakers, or a headset to use Team Speak. However if you do have speakers and no mic you are still encouraged to download and install Team Speak. Even if you cant talk because of no mic you will still be able to hear commands or friends talking to you. Now lets get one with the tutorial: First off open Team Speak. You should see a window come up that says welcome to Team Speak 2 at the bottom in usually red letters. After the opening Team Speak you notice the menu at the top of the window. It should have Connect in black, Channels, Player, Self all unhighlighted, Recording, Info, Settings, and Help in black. Click on the Connection menu. (see figure1 on next page.)
Figure 1: Now there will be a drop down menu. Click on Connect. (see figure 2)
Figure 2: Now a new window should pop up that says at the top Connect to Server. The window should have to Tabs in it. One called Local Addressbook, and one called Web Server List. Click on the Local Addressbook tab.if its already in that tab fine leave it there. Now you should also see in the white window below the word Servers. (see figure 3)
Figure 3: In the white window Right Click on the word Servers. Another Pop up box should appear with Add Server, Clone Server, and Delete Server. Click on Add Server. A small box should appear and in that box type US-Dawgs, exactly like it is here. (see figures 4 and 5)
Figure 4:
Figure 5: After typing in the little box click anywhere in the white window to save the name typed. After that you will notice a panel to the left appear in the window. (see figure 5) In the box named LABEL you should see the words US-Dawgs there. Great!! Good job so far we are to the easy part now just typing in the info!!!
Ok for the next part of the tutorial refer to figure 6 below. I did this by the numbers so just follow along and make sure you put in all the info CORRECTLY or it wont work! 1.)Server Address: 165.139.44.173 2.)Nickname: What you game name is or your nickname. (without the clan tags and rank)
3.) Check the ALLOW SERVER TO ASSIGN A NICKNAME box. 4.)Click the ANONYMOUS radio button. 5.)Server password: dawgz (type exactly like shown here) 6.)Check the AUTO-RECONNECT box. 7.)Click the CONNECT button at bottom. Now if you followed this tutorial exactly and entered all the information correctly you should now be connected to the US-Dawgs Team Speak Server!! Great job!! Ok take a break and relax cause were not quite done yet!!! The next part will explain how to navigate and some things you need to set up now that your connected! PART II: Ok now your saying cool I'm connected now what right? Not to worry my friend in this second part I will show you the settings and how to navigate through the channels on Team Speak. 1.)Settings: Now there are some different settings you can do inside Team Speak depending on the equipment your using, IE. Mic & Speakers, or Headset. I will explain the settings proffered for both here. If your using a regular Mic and Speakers to communicate you have to set up a push to talk button on your keyboard. Its not really a good idea to have it set to voice activate for the simple fact that game sound will bleed over to the mic from your computers speakers making it very hard for other users to hear what your saying. Basically the game sounds will constantly be coming through to other players connected making it hard to hear you and generally getting annoying to other players. However if your using a headset. Earphone and mic combo, you can set up Team Speak to activate on the sound of your voice. Basically it will turn on when you speak into your Mic and shut off when you don't. My suggestion to everyone is to try and eventually get yourself a headset. Its easier to talk. You don't have to worry about hitting a button while playing to talk and you dont have to worry about blasting the sound to annoy people in your home! The first I will explain to setup is the Mic/Speaker configuration: Now that you connected look up at the menu bar again.you want to go to the SETTINGS menu and click on it. (see figure 7)
Figure 7: You should see a drop down menu now with SOUND INPUT/OUTPUT SETTINGS. Click on the SOUND INPUT/OUTPUT SETTINGS. A window should pop up looking something like below.
Slide the OUTPUT VOLUME slider to MAX. Click the PUSH TO TALK radio button and then click on the SET button. Another window should pop up saying PRESS ANY KEY. Now this is where your choice comes in. I suggest using a key on your keyboard that is not used much and out of the way. I usually use of of these 2 keys: PRT SCR/SYSRQ PAUSE/BREAK I don't ever use these keys will playing a game and they are out of the way of the keys that are normally used. Once you select the key you want it will come back to the SOUND SETTINGS window. If your using the PUSH TO TALK you wont have to worry about setting the VOICE ACTIVATION slider. Then make sure you have the CELP 5.1 Kbit selected for the TEST CODEC. Then click closed and tada!!! Your set up to use your mic and speakers. The rest of the settings you really don't have to mess with because usually the defaults that Team Speak choose work the best. Now to set up a headset is the same steps except for choosing the PUSH TO TALK radio button select the VOICE ACTIVATION radio button and set the slider to start of with about half way. Depending on your Headset Mic's sensitivity you might have to adjust it either lower or higher depending but all the other settings are the same!! Congrats!! You just setup your mic!!! I know a lot of reading but were almost through. Last part here is showing you how to navigate on Team Speak. Look at the figure on the next page. You will notice colored arrows. The RED ARROWS are pointing at what are called CHANNELS. The YELLOW ARROWS point at what is called SUBCHANNELS. Basically a room inside a room. The WHITE ARROW points at the USER or you in other words. Now you can choose CHANNELS and SUBCHANNELS one of 2 ways. Either you can click on you user name and drag it to which ever CHANNEL or SUBCHANNEL you want or you can right click on them and choose SWITCH CHANNEL from the option menu that pops up. Simple huh?? Now you will notice also on our server we have the channels and subchannels named. When first signing on to Team Speak you will always start out in the LOBBY. If your not playing a game and just want to chat to friend please use this channel. There are others as well and you will see they are named after certain games. Such as MOHAA stands for Medal Of Honor Allied Assault. If you are playing that online choose that channel. Then choose the side your playing, either axis or allies. That way you can talk to your team mates during game play. Now we do have a few others as well named NCOs and OFFICERS if your not an NCO or OFFICER stay out of those channels unless invited in or told to go there by either and NCO or OFFICER.
Well pat yourself on the back you have just completed the Team Speak setup!!! Hope to see you on there! Ltc.Coptor
