Introduction Sculpture on Main has a community vision of an outdoor, visual arts exhibition of sculpture placed in highly visible and accessible places in Marble Falls. They are for sale and on loan for one year. The purpose of Sculpture on Main is to feature Marble Falls as a centrally-located art destination in Texas. Marble Falls residents, visitors and students can learn from and be inspired by the many varied works of art. The exhibit is open to professional sculptors of all backgrounds. It is an international mix of sculptures from many states and other countries. Art supporters and community members are invited to join the artists for a ticketed dinner and awards presentation starting at 6:00 pm on Friday evening, October 18, 2013. A full-color walking tour guide with photos of the sculptures, artists names, and costs of the sculptures will be produced. It will be distributed through local businesses, museums, galleries, and area chambers of commerce and visitor bureaus. Promotion and sales of the sculptures will be of great importance to the artist and continued support of the Sculpture on Main program. The sculpture Sip N Stroll and Plein Air competition will be on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The Sip N Stroll is a ticketed event. NEW THIS YEAR!!! We will be having a Plein Air event during Sculpture on Main. This quick draw competition will coincide with the Sip N Stroll Saturday afternoon. Sculpture demonstrations and children s art activities will also be happening during this time. Each year the Sculpture on Main Committee will vote to determine the winner of the Best of Show and $1000, $600 for Second Place, $400 for Third Place, $300 for Fourth Place and $200 for Fifth Place awards. SOM invites individuals and merchants to sponsor a sculpture for $150. You could also adopt a sculpture which you would then be responsible for light cleaning. GET INVOLVED! 2013/2014 Call for Entries Marble Falls is the gateway to the Highland Lakes in Central Texas. It is the regional hub to over 75,000 people living within a 20-mile radius. The natural beauty of the Hill Country and lakes combine to make the area ideal for tourism, second homes, businesses, specialty shops, and fine dining. Marble Falls is centrally located, just about an hour s drive from Austin or San Antonio, and about three hours from Dallas/Fort Worth or Houston. The area has many resorts and recreational opportunities, including wineries and state parks. Marble Falls has garnered acclaim for its special events, restaurants, and more, and is consistently rated as one of the top retirement destinations in the country. We invite you to submit your work for our year-long public exhibit that focuses upon large scale, outdoor sculpture. The sculptures are placed in the Historic Main Street area of Marble Falls, which has wide medians and landscaped corners to make an ideal setting for showing the work. The sculptures will be on loan and available to the public for purchase and displayed for a year in these areas. The goal of Sculpture on Main is to attract visitors from around the state and beyond, and to create a cultural destination for viewing public art throughout the year. Previous exhibits have been very successful with 20-40 sculptures each year, major media attention, and several sales. This year s event will kick off with an artists dinner where we recognize the sculptors, get to sit and visit with them and give them awards. There will be a self-guided Sip N Stroll on Saturday, October 19, 2013 where participants can get wine and hors d oeuvres and then stroll down Main Street. Sculptures will be by their pieces to answer any questions that may arise. As an added bonus, Sculpture on Main is part of a larger exhibition, the Central Texas Sculpture Cooperative, with sites in several locations in Central Texas including San Antonio, Austin, and Georgetown. Participating sculptors could be able to move their sculpture from one location to another if their piece does not sell and they can be juried into one of the other shows. 2013/2014 Exhibition Schedule Entry and Fee Deadline 8/01/2013 Notification of Acceptance Deadline - 8/31/2013 Installation October 17 th & 18 th by appt. 2013/2014 Criteria for Exhibit We invite you to submit your work for our year-long public exhibit. Large scale, free standing, and interactive sculptures perhaps with sound, lights, and/or movement are encouraged. We are looking for the Wow factor. All works submitted must be of original design and execution, and must be available to install by your installation date (no exceptions). They must be for sale. In the event that a piece is purchased during the exhibit year, the purchaser is asked to leave the piece until the next sculpture change. If they must take the piece, the artist will be offered an opportunity to install the same or a new piece subject to committee approval. The artist must agree to a sales commission of 25% going to SOM to be used for promotion and buying permanent works for the city. Each artist may enter up to three works. Jurying is based on the originality of the piece, its safety, durability, and suitability for an outdoor public exhibit. A $200 stipend per accepted artist will be given for delivery, set up, and removal of sculptures. Insurance is provided. Discounted rooms and meals are available during that time and the weekend of the reception. Participating artists will meet with a SOM representative in Marble Falls by appointment on October 17 and 18 to install their sculpture. The sculpture must have steel tabs or plates attached to bottom so they can be bolted to a secure granite slab. Installation is the artist s responsibility but SOM will provide help and equipment for heavy work. The Sculpture on Main Committee will determine what kind of attachment is needed depending on location and type of sculpture. In the rare case of damage to the sculpture, the artist will be notified. The sculpture must be repaired within 10 days or it will be removed. A photograph of the work is required to be juried, as well as for the walking tour map and publicity. Digital photos are preferred. A photo of the artist is needed for publicity. Please enter them on a CD or send digital photos by email. In the event we are unable to exhibit your work the CD will be returned if a stamped mailing box is enclosed. The required entry fee is $35.00. The entry fees go toward the stipends for the accepted artists.
