The Committee Chairperson Ms Rebecca Choy met with the Chairman of the Korean Women Entrepreneur Association in January during her visit to HK to establish contact for future collaboration. Ms Marina Wong; Ms Caroline Mak and Ms Agnes Koon had a Sunday breakfast with representative from UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and tried to explore possible synergy but as their focus is more on social service in mainland region the Association had decided the possibility of co-operation might not be very in line with the Association s main objectives. It was a joyous evening at the Hong Kong Women Celebrating the 10 th Anniversary of the Hong Kong SAR variety show and award presentation to the winners of the Harmonious Family held on 23 June at the Hong Kong Coliseum. The event set in a glamorous stage with great performances was most entertaining and it was well attended by the members. Women Business Start-up Scheme Given the improved economic environment in Hong Kong, it was decided to seek new initiatives to help women instead of starting phase 3 of the HKWPEA Women Business Start-Up Assistance Scheme. Specific directions being explored included partnering with appropriate social enterprises in Hong Kong to help target group and providing training or mentorship to business managers of social enterprises. To increase the Committee and Members understanding of social enterprise, a visit was organized on June 28 to Bright Services Co., Ltd., a social enterprise established by The Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention in 1997 to provide removal and cleaning services. The visit was attended by seven Members. On July 6, six Committee Members had dinner with six business managers from five different social enterprises to understand their training needs. Going forward, the Association will encourage Members understanding and participation in helping social enterprises through organizing suitable visits, events and training.
