TORAH, GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS GENESIS 5A - LESSON 5 - GENEALOGY OF MAN Say - Welcome to Sabbath School class. Let's bow our head as we ask God for understanding in our study today. Say - In Genesis chapter 5 we will be study the genealogy or history of man. Many times we will hear people say it is not interesting to read genealogy in the Bible. But we must remember God said, "... Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4. God had Moses record all of this genealogy so His people down through the ages would know of their origin and history from Adam through the end of time. Let's begin our study. Say - 1This is the book of the generations of Adam (or the birth of the children of Adam or of the human race. The first Adam was physical and the 2nd Adam came later, spiritual Jesus.). In the day that God created man (Always remember Adam and Eve were created, not born), in the likeness of God made he him; (God describes Himself as looking like man. Also always remember our goal or purpose is to be like God in thought and deed and eventually spiritually as immortals. Please know the image man has created of God is perverted.) Say - 2Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam (means "red" because made from red soil, this was year "0"), in the day when they were created. 3And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth (means "compensation"): 4And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: 5And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. 6And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos (means "man" or "human"): 7And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters: 8And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died. 9And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan (means "possession"): 10And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters: 11And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died. 12And Cainan lived seventy years and begat Mahalaleel (means "praise of God"): 13And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters: 14And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died. 15And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared (means "descent", 4th generation from Seth): 16And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and

begat sons and daughters: 17And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died. Say - 18And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch (means "dedicated"): 19And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 20And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died. 21And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah (means "man of the dart", Grandfather of Noah and 6th in descent from Seth, Methuselah died the year of the flood): 22And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 23And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: Say - 24And Enoch walked with God (means Enoch had a close intimate relationship with God and was obedient to Him): and he was not; for God took him (God "took him" or "transported" or "carried" him to a different place because people were looking for him to persecute him because he worshipped God. Please make note that a false doctrine sprang from this verse and from 2 Kings 2:11 about Elijah which says nearly the same thing, please read the following verses about Elijah. "11And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven" 2Kings 2:11. Say - Today we drive, take a train or we fly in an airplane into the heavens. The chariot of fire with horses were angels. The false doctrine is that when one dies they go to heaven or hell. Many churches teach and many believe that Enoch and Elijah were taken and became spirit beings or made immortal or spirit beings and are in heaven with God. But God through the Bible teaches us differently; please read the following :). Say - Concerning Elijah, let's take the verse apart and discuss it for understanding. It says, "Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven". Remember when we discussed the firmament in Genesis 1, page 5, we said the firmament is the expanse, the canopy of clouds. The firmament begins 1 inch above the ground and includes the moisture, the fog in the heavens, the air, the sky and the atmosphere or everything we can see. "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork" Psalm 19:1. This is where Elijah was taken up by a whirlwind, the visible part, where the clouds are and was taken to the southern kingdom of Judah that is why they could not find him. How can we be sure of this? Say - You will learn in the books of 1st and 2nd Kings, the Bible tells us Elijah was a prophet to the Northern Kingdom of Israel and it was

during the reign of an evil King Ahab and Queen Jezebel who worshipped the false god, Baal, and had led the Northern Kingdom or ten tribes of Israel into the same idol worship, that Elijah confronted King Ahab and told him of the calamities which were to come upon his kingdom because of his idolatry and King Ahab did not want to hear this so he was not happy with Elijah. If Elijah had been taken to heaven he would not have been a Prophet to the Northern Kingdom nor could he have warned them of the calamities that were to come upon them unless they repented and turned in obedience to God; you can read of this account starting in 1Kings 17:1, 18. With many events in between, to make a long story short, God took Elijah from the Northern Kingdom to the Southern Kingdom, Judah, composed of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin (I Kings 12:21), and that is why they could not find him. Say - Another proof that Elijah did not go to heaven is that many years later in 2 Chronicles 21:12, a letter came from Elijah. Had Elijah been "in Heaven" where God and the Son reside, he would not have written a letter. Our next lesson, Genesis 5B will be on what happens when we die so we will have a good understanding of this subject. Do you see the importance of understanding the Word of God? Now we will be able to tell others the Truth of God. Say - Back to Genesis 5. 25And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech (means "powerful", father of Noah). 26And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters: 27And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died (Methuselah died in the year of the flood, this also ends the first millennium). Say - 28And Lamech (different one than previous chapter) lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son (Adam is still alive at this point because he lived 930 years): 29And he called his name Noah (means "rest" or "comfort", father of Shem, Ham and Japheth, became the head of the family of man because his family was the only ones who survived the great flood), saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed (Noah was the first born in the new millennium). Say - 30And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters: 31And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died. Say - 32And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem (means "name" and is the progenitor or forefather of the Semitic tribe of which Abraham came), Ham (means "hot" and the father of Canaan,

and Japheth (means "opened" and these descendants after the flood settled on the coastal lands of the Mediterranean spreading north into Europe and parts of Asia). Note: a note on the long length of life could be that God used this method to preserve the knowledge of God and His creation from the beginning so His truth would be preserved with the greatest accuracy and purity by being handed down through these generations. Note: Please understand that God does not have Moses record their first born son of each individual but only the succession from Adam through Seth to Abraham. MEMORY VERSE "And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years..." Genesis 5:5 SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR TOTS

GENEALOGY OR HISTORY OF MAN THE HISTORY OF MAN IS INTERESTING FOR WE KNOW GOD CREATED ADAM AND EVE; THEY WERE NOT BORN AS ALL OF THEIR CHILDREN OR AS YOU AND ME. ADAM MEANS "RED" FOR FROM "RED SOIL" GOD CREATED HIM FOR THE BIBLE TELLS US SURE; ADAM LIVED 930 YEARS AND THROUGH ADAM THE STORIES AND TRUTH OF GOD WAS GIVEN TO ALL AS PURE. FROM ADAM CAME SETH, THEN ENOS, CAINUN, MAHALALEEL, JARED AND ENOCH, THEN METHUSELAH AND LEMECH, THE FATHER OF NOAH; NOAH, BORN FIRST IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM HAD THREE SONS, SHEM, HAM AND JAPHETH.
