[1] Submitted by Ana White [2] on Wed, 2010-10-20 22:38 [1] Summary: The perfect spot for a part time sewing enthusiast! Tucks neatly way, expands out to be a cutting or layout mat. Please note that this table is not intended for use with the sewing machine unless locking hardware is installed on the fold out legs and tabletop. CategoriesProject Type: Desk, Desk Systems and Project Table Plans [3] Room: Craftroom [4] Skill Level: Beginner [5] Style: Cottage Style Furniture Plans [6] Estimated Cost: $20 - $50 [7] Dimensions: Expands. Table height. Collapsed dimensions shown above. Dimensions: Page 1 of 13

1 2 4 5 2 Sheet of Plywood or MDF 1x2s or 1x3s 2 Caster Wheels (Overall clearance of 2 1/2 ) Sets of hinges 1/2 Screws Common Materials: Elmer's Wood Glue [8] Elmer's Wood Filler [9] 120 grit sandpaper primer wood conditioner paint paint brush Page 2 of 13

Tools: [10] Page 3 of 13

[11] [12] [13] Cut List: 1 1 32 @ 15 1/2 (Top) 2 1 32 @ 26 3/4 (Sides) 2 1 32 @ 12 (Shelves) 2-1 32 @ 20 (Leaves) 4 1x2s @ 29 1/4 (Legs Measure these!) Page 4 of 13

[14] If you can, take this diagram to Blue or Orange and have them make your cuts. If you are cutting this yourself, start by cutting the plywood into 31 7/8 widths (shown above as 32 ), 48 long. Then from those three pieces, cut out the remaining pieces. Remember, always consider Step 1 the width of your saw blade as you cut. Page 5 of 13

[15] Build the Box Step 2 Use 2 1/2 screws and glue to build your box as shown above. Predrill and countersink your screws. Step 3 Page 6 of 13

[16] Caster Wheels Now this is important your wheels need to have a total clearance of 2 1/2. If you wheels do not have a total clearance of 2 1/2, DO NOT cut the legs just yet. Instead, add the wheels, then take a measurement from the bottom of the wheels to the underside of the tabletop. This will be your new leg length. Page 7 of 13

[17] Leaves Step 4 Lay the whole thing on the ground, face down. Screw the leaves on with hinges as shown above. Page 8 of 13

[18] Legs Step 5 Hinge the legs on as shown above. You can use a 1 3 for a stronger leg if you plan on placing heavy weight loads on the tabletop. Now flip the table over and expand. When the leaves are down the weight should hold the legs in place. See Get Started section for general instructions and finishing advice. Page 9 of 13

[19] Expanded size. Step 6 Page 10 of 13

[20] If your sewing takes over your dining table at least half the time, make sure you thank Kelly on our Community [21] for recommending an expandable sewing table. Page 11 of 13

I love this idea because there is a tidy spot to hold your sewing machine, a shelf for baskets and other sewing things that you need to keep handy, tons of tabletop space, but it all folds up into a neat little package that you can roll into a closet.
