DIGIC 6 (PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120) The new models feature Canon s latest generation DIGIC 6 image processor. The HS System combines the 12.1 Megapixel high-sensitivity CMOS sensor with the DIGIC 6 processor, to deliver exceptional images in low light up to ISO 12800, with minimal blur and image noise, as well as wide dynamic range. The new DIGIC 6 processor provides excellent image quality and advantages over predecessor models, including: Improved low-light image quality DIGIC 6, as part of the HS System, captures images with considerably less noise than non-hs System cameras, at all ISO speeds. The DIGIC 6 image processor can detect and capture up to 30 per cent more detail than DIGIC 5 models at high ISO, resulting in highly detailed, low noise shots that are true-to-life. Enhanced movies When shooting movies, noise reduction performance is also improved by up to two-stops, thanks to the new DIGIC 6 processor. Providing smoothness in every shot, the new image processor enables users to capture Full HD movies with Fine Detail Movie Processing (PowerShot G16) recording movies up to 60fps for sharper and more realistic results. The additional power provided by the DIGIC 6 processor allows movies to be recorded in the widely compatible MP4 format and easily shared without the need for lengthy file conversions. Faster shooting speeds The advanced DIGIC 6 processor allows the new models to employ faster continuous shooting speeds than previous models. Users can enjoy shooting at speeds of approximately 9fps. The PowerShot G16 is able to shoot at 12.2fps for the first 5 frames and then at 9.3fps sustained for
522 frames, while the PowerShot S120 can shoot at 12.1fps for first 5 frames and then at 9.4fps sustained for 635 frames. Improved AF performance DIGIC 6 also makes a significant improvement to AF performance for the PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120. Utilising new and more efficient AF algorithms and revised processing sequences, the PowerShot G16 s AF performance is now 41 per cent faster than the PowerShot G15, while the PowerShot S120 s AF speed is now 50 per cent faster than the PowerShot S110. The PowerShot G15 and S110 were already significantly faster than their predecessors. The PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120 are the fastest focusing Canon compact cameras to date 2. Improved Wi-Fi connectivity with Image Sync (PowerShot G16, PowerShot S120 and PowerShot SX510 HS) Integrated Wi-Fi connectivity allows photos and videos to be exchanged wirelessly between devices and services, making it quicker and easier to share content. The Wi-Fi functionality provides the ability to view and transfer images saved on the camera with compatible ios or Android smartphones and tablets, as well as directly to popular social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. Users can upload images directly to Facebook groups, and also add comments directly from the camera when sharing images to Twitter and Facebook. A new Image Sync function helps users backup their pictures both online and to PCs. When the registered computer is online, the camera will transfer the selected pictures to the PC for storing on the hard drive, while the PC s internet connection will be used to back up images to online services. If the registered PC is unavailable, the camera will connect to a network to wirelessly send the selected images to online services for back up as soon as the PC is online again, it will automatically sync the photo library with these services. Images can be synced on any of the following: Computer hard drive, CANON image GATEWAY Online Photo Album and Flickr. These new models are able to send images wirelessly to CANON image GATEWAY 3 where up to 10GB of data can be stored online. Online albums can be created to share with friends and family. The Online Photo Album can also be accessed using the free ios and Android app for smartphones and tablets. The Wi-Fi functionality allows the camera to connect and transfer images to other Canon Wi-Fi-enabled cameras, compatible computers and printers featuring PictBridge
via Wireless LAN support, including selected Canon SELPHY and PIXMA Wi-Fi enabled printers. Zoom Framing Assist with Auto mode (PowerShot SX510 HS) Zoom Framing Assist with Auto mode lets users focus on framing, while the camera keeps track of subjects at high zoom, whether shooting stills or movies. In Auto Mode the camera will locate and track a face, automatically adjusting the zoom to keep the subject in focus and at constant size even as they move so it s ideal for shooting great movies of people, especially kids, on the go. Star Mode (PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120) The increased processing power of DIGIC 6, the evolution of the HS System and superb high ISO performance of these models makes it easy to capture nightscapes with the new Star Mode. Within Star Mode, three new shooting modes allow for night-time scenery and a starry sky to be captured vividly and easily: Star Nightscape: Star Nightscape mode captures a single shot of beautiful night skies. Users are required to mount the camera to a tripod, and then the camera automatically uses a combination of long exposure and high ISO setting to capture the stars. In addition, DIGIC 6 s intelligent noise reduction is more efficient in removing noise while emphasising the brightness of stars. Star Trails: This mode allows photographers to capture the apparent circular motion of stars as they move through the night sky. Star Trails mode automatically adjusts the camera s exposure settings and continuously captures long exposure images which are then merged together to create a single beautiful star trail shot. The PowerShot G16 is able to shoot in Star Trails mode for up to two hours, and the PowerShot S120 can shoot for up to approx. 90 mins. Star Time-lapse movie: This mode allows users to shoot short movies of the star-lit sky by capturing a series of time lapse images at one frame per minute. A time-lapse movie of up to eight seconds is then created in Full HD quality, with an equivalent frame rate of 15 fps. Star Time-lapse movies are captured in MP4 format allowing easy transfer and uploading to online services using Wi- Fi. Improved Manual Focus with Focus Peaking (PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120) Both new models feature Manual Focus Peaking, which provides a clear view of areas within the frame that are in focus when focusing manually. Users can use MF Peaking
to highlight the areas of highest contrast on screen whilst manual focusing prior to movie recording. Different colour highlights and selectable peaking levels (frequency) are available for the optimum visual representation of the focus areas within the frame. To help users take pictures with pin-point accurate focus, the MF Peaking function is also available for still shooting. Both new models also feature movie Tracking AF for following subjects more smoothly. Face or subject Tracking AF allows users to pick their area of focus ahead of movie capture, and then the camera will ensure this subject is always in focus even if it moves around the frame. The PowerShot S120 s touchscreen also provides freedom to further adjust the point of focus in the movie. New Creative Filters (PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120) In addition to the Creative Filters currently available, the new PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120 feature two new Creative Filters which can be applied to images: New Background Defocus This filter mimics the effect of using a wide aperture on a DSLR and creating a shallow depth of field by blurring the background of the image. Users are able to select the strength of the background blur from three different pre-sets, or allow the camera to automatically select the strength based on the scene being shot. Improved HDR mode With the high speed continuous shooting enabled by DIGIC 6, users can capture HDR images in bright conditions without the need of a tripod. This filter uses similar tonal maps as Canon s EOS DSLRs, to add extra creative effects when shooting in HDR mode. One of the following five effects can be selected: Natural, Art Standard, Art Vivid, Art Bold and Art Embossed. Enhanced Hybrid Auto (PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120) Hybrid Auto is a powerful combination of Canon s existing Smart Auto and Movie Digest modes. Whenever a still image is captured in Hybrid Auto mode, the preceding four seconds before the shot was taken are recorded as a movie file (1280 x 720, at 30 fps) and stored on the camera s memory card, and later combined into one movie clip. The new enhanced mode on the PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120 now integrates the still image captured into the movie, creating a complete visual story of the day s shots.
