Y Meridian Lateral Files Instructions! WARNING Failure to observe stated capacities below will result in unsafe usage conditions, causing possible product damage or personal injury. Important Loading Information Any file system can tip if improperly used or loaded. Follow these simple guidelines for proper use. 1. Move files only when they are unloaded. 2. Distribute weight evenly. Load all files from the bottom drawer up. Do not leave the bottom drawers empty. Remove materials from the top drawers first. 3. When files are 68 or taller anchor files to each other (Side-to-Side) or to a structural wall (File-to-Wall). Procedures A. Leveling Locking Tab 1. Place file in desired location. Slide Slide 2. Pull bottom drawer all the way out. Working one side at a time, press drawer sides in toward center of file so locking tabs clear drawer slides. Locking Tab Slide Slide 3. Making sure that locking tabs clear drawer slides, lift drawer from slide and remove drawer from file. 2
Glide 4. Using 5/16 Allen wrench, turn leveling glides clockwise to raise corner, counterclockwise to lower corner. 5. Check for side-to-side and front-to-back leveling. Once level, turn the two front leveling glides 1/4 turn clockwise. Drawer Tab Slide Slot 6. Working one side at a time, replace drawer by aligning both drawer tabs with corresponding slide slots and pushing down until locking tabs snap into place. 3
B. Side-to-Side Anchoring- For to High or Taller To anchor files side-to-side, work from the right hand file. For tight junctions, repeat the procedure, described below, in the top, middle and bottom modules. Service Part Hardware Kit U1B36D9 is required. Note: 1 high modules (N,E,F,D,P,L & H) without counter weights. Need to be ganged back to back or anchored to floor. 1. Place files side-to-side in desired location, and adjust leveling glides as shown in Steps 1-5 in Section A. Modules to be anchored 2. From the right hand file, remove the drawers from the modules that will be anchored. 4
Top Hole Front Vertical Frame 3. Using the Power Driver, drive one drill-point screw through the top hole in the front vertical frame and into the adjacent file. Take care to not over tighten. Rear Vertical Frame Centered 4. Drive a second drill-point screw, centered from top to bottom, in the slot in the rear vertical frame, into the adjacent file. Take care to not over tighten. 5, Repeat steps 1-4 for each remaining module. 5
C. File-to-Wall Anchoring NOTE: Proper Anchoring is the responsibility of the Installer/User. 1. Place file in desired location and adjust leveling glides as shown in Steps 1-5 in Section A. 2. Use fasteners appropriate for the wall construction. For plaster or dry wall construction use moly bolts with metal washers. For best installation, anchor each file to wall studs. 6
D. Joining and Aligning Add-On Sections NOTE: 78 and higher files are shipped in two sections. Joining the sections may require two people. 1. Remove and discard shipping cleats. 2. Remove top drawer from the Lower Section and bottom drawer from the Add-On Section, as shown in Steps 1-3 of Section A. Interlock Bar 3. At the left side of both sections, rotate interlock bars to the rear. Lower Interlock Bar Upper Interlock Bar 4. Obtain Upper Interlock Bar and Lower Interlock Bar from Hardware Kit. 7
Add-On Section Interlock Bar Lower Interlock Bar Upper Interlock Bar Interlock Bar Lower Section 5. Place add-on section onto lower section while aligning and joining Upper and Lower Interlock Bars. Rotate interlock bars to be sure they turn smoothly. 8
6. From the hardware pack, insert one hex head bolt in each corner hole and one in the center rear hole. Thread nuts on bolts loosely. Alignment Area Rubber Mallet 7. Align the sections at the front and sides. If force is required, apply a rubber mallet only to the alignment area, shown. 8. After aligning, tighten nuts onto the hex head bolts. 9
Add-On Section Splicer Lockbars Lower Section 9. On the right side, connect splicer, provided in hardware pack, between the lockbars, pressing firmly until splicer snaps into place. 10. Replace drawers as shown in Step 6 of Section A. 10
E. Separating and Reversing 2600 Series Files NOTE: Observe the following conditions for reversing sections. One Section Reversed Two Section Reversed Correct Incorrect - To prevent instability, reverse only as shown in the correct configuration above. Only one change of drawer opening direction is allowed per file cabinet. - Reversed file cabinets can be anchored to a structural wall or in-line file-to-file, as shown in Sections B and C, preceding. - For a reversed section, order one reversing hardware pack (#100/011) from Herman Miller Inc. Section to be reversed Remove these drawers 1. Remove drawers above and below the point where sections will be separated and reversed. 11
Splicer 2. Remove lockbar splicer. 3. Remove the five (5) attaching hex head bolts and nuts. Upper Interlock Bar Interlock Bar 4. Push the Interlock Bar down and away from the side. Slide the Upper Interlock Bar down and remove it. 5. Reverse the separated section. 12
6. Align the sections at the front and sides. If force is required, see Section D, Step 7. 7. Align the bolt holes of the upper and lower sections. Re-install four (4) hex head bolts and nuts; two at each side of file, as shown above. NOTE: Interlock bars not shown for clarity of illustration. From the hardware pack, install four (4) drill-point screws, two (2) from Lower Section, going up and two (2) from Upper Section, going down. 13

To activate interlocking in the Top Module of the Lower Section, obtain the Top Interlock piece (with spring) from the hardware pack. Slide Top Interlock piece up the Interlock channel. Swing the Interlock Bar in and engage it. Bottom Module of Upper Section Interlock Bar Lower Section Interlock Channel Bottom Interlock piece 10. To activate interlocking in the Bottom Module of the Upper Section, obtain the Bottom Interlock piece (with spring) from the hardware pack. Slide the Bottom Interlock piece down into the Interlock channel. Swing the Interlock Bar in and engage it. 11. Check for free rotation of Interlock bars and make sure a Splicer (see Step 9, Section D) connects all Lockbars that face the same direction. 14

1. For lateral files: Remove shipping cleats from base and dispose of properly. 2. Place base on its side on clean surface. Position both fixed casters at same end of base and both swivel casters at opposite end. 3. Attach all casters to base with self tapping screws provided using power torqure driver and 3/8 nutdriver bit. 4. For towers: Remove shipping cleats from base and dispose of properly. 5. Place base on its side on clean surface. Position both locking swivel casters on front of tower base & swivel casters in rear of tower base. 6. Attach all casters to base with self tapping screws provided using power torque driver and 3/8 nutdriver bit. 16

Disassembly for Recycling: Materials Identification and Segregation: Where possible, plastic components are marked with ASTM recycling codes. Use these codes to identify material type for recycling. Non marked components should be treated as mixed plastic. Ferrous metals can be identified using a small magnet for recycling. Non-ferrous metals should be separated and recycled separately. To disassemble product, reverse steps 6 through 1. 18
