Trim to measure 24 ½ x 44 ½. 2. Sew (1) 1 x 5 ½ Fabric strip to each side of (1) 5 ½ Fabric D square. Sew (1) 1 x 6 ½ Fabric strip to the top and bottom of the Fabric D square to make (1) Unit 1 square (Fig. 2). Repeat to make a second Unit 1 square. Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 5). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 6). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼ away from the sewn seam. 6. Follow Figure 7 for the seam direction to add a 2 Fabric G square to the lower right corner of the 3 ½ Fabric H square to make one square (Fig. 8). 7. Sew (1) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric strip to the top of (1) 6 ½ x 8 ½ Fabric A strip to make the bag front (Fig. 15). Repeat to make the ag ack. 23. On the wrong side of the bag front, measure down from the top edge 1 and mark. Measure down ¾ from the first mark and make a second mark. Repeat on the other side of the bag front. Do not sew across the ¾ openings marked in Step 23 to make the outer bag (Fig. 16). leave a 3/4 opening Fig. 16 25. Turn the outer bag right side out and press. Make sure to tuck in the two drawstring openings. Top Stitch each opening to create a finished edge. 26. Place the 6 ½ x 11 ½ Fabric strips, right sides together. Vintage Page 15 27. Slide the bag lining over the outer bag, right sides together. Align the side seams on both pieces and sew around the top edge of the bag and lining. Turn the bag right side out through the opening in the lining. Stitch the opening closed. 28. To make the ties, fold one 2" x WOF Fabric strip in half lengthwise and press (Fig. 18). Open the folded fabric and fold each long edge to the creased centerline and press (Fig. 19). 29. Fold the pressed fabric in half again and press to make one ½ x WOF strip (Fig. 20). Top stitch down both long sides ⅛ in from the edge to make the drawstring (Fig. 21). 30. Thread one end of the drawstring through one opening on the bag and then back around the other side so that you have both ends of the drawstring on one side. Repeat with the other end of the drawstring, starting on the opposite side of the bag. 31. Trim the drawstring ends to the desired length and trim.
