WHY THE ARTS? WHY DANCE? The arts create positive change in communities and school environments across the United States and the world. Students improve their academic performance when the arts play an active role in their life in-school and out of school... Moreover, whether you are observing or participating, engaging in dance improves emotional intelligence. Michelle Modrzejewski, Manger of Community Programs at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Aesthetic experience, the perception of beauty, is valuable for its own sake and can also profoundly enrich our lives. Art can open our eyes to the beauties of the created order. A painting or a song or a poem can spark a flash of illumination. Art can even disclose spiritual truths and express them in a penetrating way. Gene Edward Veith, Jr., State of the Arts Every dollar invested into the Illinois nonprofit arts and culture field generates an estimated $27 in socio-economic value. Social Impact Research Center, The Value of the Nonprofit Arts and Culture Field in Illinois "A lot of what artists do is tell stories. They help us make sense of our world, and they broaden our experience and understanding. The arts enable us to imagine the unimaginable, and to connect us to the past, the present, and the future, sometimes simultaneously. Great literature, films and visual art transport us to different places and cultures; great art even allows us to see ourselves and our own community through a different lens..." Dr. Mitchell B. Reiss, the President of Washington College "Dancers have the skills to be the ideal 21st-century worker. As practitioners of non-verbal communication, dancers have strong interpersonal, teamworking skills and have the ability to interpret and organize abstract concepts through visual learning." Kelsey McFalls, Why Dancers' Skills Are More Valuable Than Ever
