Dear Readers When Robert Mathys Sr. founded his first workshop in 1946, his focus was on people: In the beginning, it was the treatment of fractures, and later the replacement of entire joints, to which he dedicated his interest and pioneering spirit. We have been developing his legacy further ever since, and we can rely on the expertise of our valued partners. As a globally active Swiss family business, it is our top priority to preserve what is proven and at the same time to look to the future. Hugo Mathys Chairman of the Board of Directors The following phrases fittingly summarise our company s aspirations: Building on our heritage Moving technology forward Step by step with our clinical partners Towards a goal of preserving mobility Preservation in motion The combination of proven experience and innovation is reflected in our product portfolio, whether joint replacement, artificial bone replacement material, or the novel method for preserving the natural cruciate ligament after a rupture. We are and remain in motion what drives us is preservation of mobility. In this spirit Hugo Mathys Chairman of the Board of Directors

We are Mathys! Our history begins in 1946 a small workshop evolved over time into an international orthopaedics company: 1946 Bettlach, Switzerland: Robert Mathys Sr. founds the Swiss family business a factory to develop and manufacture machinery and instruments as well as producing components made of special stainless and acid-resistant steels. 1958 Start of the collaboration with Prof. Maurice E. Müller in the field of osteosynthesis. Founding of the AO Foundation (AO/ASIF). 1963 Development of the first hip stem (straight stem) in collaboration with Prof. Maurice E. Müller. 1967 Development, production and distribution of artificial joint 1996 implants for Protek (later Sulzer). 1972 First implantation of a hip joint prosthesis with a ceramic head. 1985 Establishment of the RMS Foundation (legally and financially independent of Mathys Ltd Bettlach). 1996 Sulzer terminates its contract with Mathys for development, production and distribution of artificial joint implants. Mathys subsequently develops, produces and markets the products under its own name (Mathys Orthopaedics). 2002 Keramed takeover: Mathys now develops and produces as one of the few orthopaedic manufacturers its own ceramic. 2003 Following the sale of the osteosynthesis division, Mathys focuses on artificial joint replacement products and artificial bone replacement material changing its name to Mathys Ltd Bettlach. 2008 Livio Marzo becomes a member of the Board of Directors the third generation joins the company. 2009 Opening of Mathys China. Founding of Mathys Japan. 2012 With «Ligamys» a product for preservation of torn front cruciate ligaments Mathys began specialising in the area of sports orthopaedics. 2013 Opening of the regional marketing & sales office in Sydney (Australia) for the Asia / Pacific region. 2014 Roger Mathys is elected to the Board of Directors as second member of the third generation. 2016 Establishment of the subsidiary in Italy.

An essential part of our product philosophy: Competence

An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest. Benjamin Franklin Training and further education We have been taking training and further education seriously since 1958 and continue to do so. After all, together with you we bear a common responsibility towards the patient. As your partner we support you by providing: International reference centres for our products International user meetings Individual training and further education opportunities Anatomy courses www.mathysacademy.com

Innovation / Research In orthopaedics as in any other discipline, we believe that progress is only possible when we have the freedom to seek out new solutions and be innovative. Mathys provides the basis to make this possible. The following four resources help us to progress and develop further: The project collaboration with international doctors Our innovation and technology management in Switzerland Our development departments in Switzerland and Germany The project collaboration with the RMS Foundation
