Walk through a life-size timeline of the evolution from horse power to horsepower in Waterloo, Iowa. Climb aboard the machines at the John Deere Pavilion. Explore our World Headquarters, famous for its ground-breaking architecture. Both in Moline, Illinois. And if that s not enough, tour some of our factories to see how the world s most advanced and productive equipment is built.

Sit in the cab of some of the largest, most technologicallyadvanced farm, construction, and forestry equipment in the world. Climb into a simulator for an experience that s almost as good as driving a real loader, dozer, or excavator. Did you know there are more than 10 million lines of code in the software of John Deere 7R Series tractors? Learn about that and more through interactive exhibits that show how we help improve lives around the world today. Catch a glimpse of the innovation that might one day be found working the fields and construction sites of the future. Kids especially love the hands-on activities in the Discovery Zone. But there s no age limit for fun for any of the exhibits.

John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum From horse power to horsepower The John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum in Waterloo, Iowa is a walk-through timeline spanning the evolution of farming. The story starts by showing the back-breaking effort required when men and animals powered farms. It continues by showing how innovative John Deere tractors increased productivity and reduced the amount of physical labor needed to put food on our tables. Hands-on displays, rare artifacts, and tons of vintage tractors some on temporary loan from private collectors bring farm history to life. Even the building is historic. Built in 1941 on the site where our first tractor factory once stood, it housed engineering and prototyping functions. The museum store features a large selection of clothing, toys, and collectibles some that can only be found here. The shop is open during regular museum hours. Admission is free. Open Monday Saturday 9 a.m. 5 p.m., Sunday noon 4 p.m. 500 Westfield Avenue, Waterloo, IA 50701; 319-292-6126

Go back to the beginning of one of the world s most iconic companies at the John Deere Historic Site in Grand Detour, Illinois. A blacksmith named John Deere set up his small shop on this site in 1837. It s where he built a home, raised his family, and worked long days over an anvil. It s where he created the plow famous for helping turn the American midwest into the world s breadbasket. And it was from here that his company grew to what it is today. Hear the floors creak in the original family home decorated with authentic furniture of the time. Visit the archaeological excavation of John Deere s original blacksmith shop. Watch the sparks fly in a live demonstration of nineteenth century blacksmithing we re sure you ll love. Admission is free. 1837 John Deere builds a polished-steel, self-scouring plow. Farmers love it, and a company is launched. 1848 The company moves to Moline, Illinois, to meet labor and transportation needs. 1868 The company is incorporated as Deere & Company. A history of innovation, quality and integrity. In 1837, in a small shop in Grand Detour, Illinois, a blacksmith named John Deere built a better plow for his customers. Farmers loved his innovation and the plow soon took off, as did the company that bears his name. Throughout its history, Deere & Company has continued its founder s search for a better way. A better way to work the land, from farm fields and forests to roadways and construction sites. A better way to use the land for homes, parks, and public spaces. The company has grown, but the values on which John Deere founded the company haven t changed. Integrity, quality, commitment, and innovation continue to be hallmarks of the brand. Deere & Company now employs more than 56,000 people worldwide, and operates facilities around the globe. We love to serve those who are connected to the land, and today we do that just about everywhere. 1910 1918 The product line rapidly expands, due in part to the purchase of the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, manufacturer of the legendary Waterloo Boy tractor. 1946 1954 The company continues to develop agricultural products, including cotton pickers, corn heads, and self-propelled combines. 1956 The Industrial Equipment Division is established, even though the company has been serving industrial markets since the 1920s. 1998 Earnings reach $1 billion. 2010 Research and development spending tops $1 billion. 2013 Production facilities added in Russia, Brazil, India, and China. The company now has production facilities in more than two dozen countries around the world.

Plan a trip you ll love. The John Deere attractions are more than just equipment on display. Each one offers a fun, educational experience that will surprise, excite and engage everyone families, collectors, employees, seniors, youth, and tour groups. Stretched along a 200-mile ribbon of highway running through the heart of the Midwestern countryside, the John Deere attractions make for a pleasant weekend tour. Along the way, you ll discover quaint towns, historic landmarks, and a wealth of natural beauty, including the mighty Mississippi River. Of course you can visit the John Deere attractions individually, as well. Each one is an excellent destination for a day trip, field trip, or sightseeing detour on your way to somewhere else. So map out your road trip and get ready for an experience you re sure to love.
