A note to teachers and parents: We really hope this book is simply a springboard to where students go with these writing, drawing, and creative thinking prompts! Here are a few thoughts on how to go further with some of the ideas: Moogie Monster Man - Page 6: Have each student describe what the Moogie Monster Man looks like on a loose piece of paper. Collect, then redistribute, those descriptions. Students now illustrate another classmate s description. Natalie - Pages 16 and 17: Instead of Natalie s dreams, make them the students dreams. Have them use their name in their poem. Couplets - Page 19: Have students work with their classmates and friends. Everyone write a short sentence or line (one half of a couplet) on a piece of paper. Then, trade papers. Now, each person write the second half of the couplet. Write a bunch of them! Choose the favorites and put them together for one class poem! A Three Sentence Story - Page 26: Have everyone write down words on separate small pieces of paper and put them into a hat. Have one person pick out three papers, then make up a story using those three words. I Remember - Page 30: There is an entire book and project to go further with this. You ll find it at www.tomatocollection.com. The entire book: Throughout the book, you ll find notes on some of the pages referencing where to hear an example of a song or to read the original poem the page is based on.
