QUARTER LOG CABIN BLOCK & QUILT TUTORIAL Copyright 2015 By Liz Katsuro Fabrics in this picture are from the Autumn Blender and Mixed Neutrals rolls!

Ready to learn how to make the incredibly simple block that creates the finished effect above? :D The amounts of fabric you ll need for each different size are listed below, but the fast piecing technique is the same no matter how few or many blocks you re making. About fabric selection: for this look, you ll need a main fabric (or many main fabrics) and a lighter/contrast fabric (or many lighter contrast fabrics). For my blocks and photos in this ebook I used 20 different autumn color fabrics in 4 different colors burgundy, avocado/green, rust/orange and browns - and 12 different tan/neutrals. You could absolutely use more colors or less this pattern looks great using just one color for your main fabric! Basic rolls 1 color, 10 different prints would be great for this project if you re looking for a simpler look. MAKING THE BLOCK 1. Choose 3 different main color strips, and 2 contrast/neutral. 2. Set aside one main color strip. From the other 4 strips, sew together two pairs of main/contrast down the long side of the strips, and press open.

3. From one of the strip sets, cut (1) 2.5 segment, and (1) 4.5 segment. 4. Attach 2.5 segment to 4.5 segment (your main color will form a V, with your contrast color in the corner)

5. From the other 2-strip segment from Step 2, cut (1) 6.5 segment. 6. Attach to block:

7. Now from your 3 rd main color strip put aside in step 1, cut (1) 8.5 piece: 8. Attach, finishing the block! That s all there is to creating the blocks that go into making this pattern! But the really great part is how quick they come together using the 2-strip segments. You ll get (6) 2.5 and (6) 4.5 pieces from 1 set of 2 strips, (6) 6.5 pieces from 1 set of 2 strips, and (5) 8.5 pieces from each single strip used in step 8. That s 6 blocks for just over 5 strips!

SIZES, STRIP QUANTITIES NEEDED, AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR EACH SIZE Baby - 48" x 48" Shopping List: (1) 20-strip main roll, (1) 20-strip contrast roll 36 Blocks laid out 6x6 20 main fabric strips, 12 contrast fabric strips Make (12) 2-strip sets (Step 2). From each of 6 sets, cut (6) 2.5" segments and (6) 4.5" segments.

From each of the remaining 6 sets, cut (6) 6.5" segments. Using 8 main-color strips, cut (36) 8.5" segments. Make 36 blocks. Lap - 64" x64" Shopping List: (2) 20-strip main rolls, (2) 20-strip contrast rolls 64 blocks laid out 8x8 35 main color strips, 22 contrast strips Make (22) 2-strip sets (Step 2). From 11 sets, cut (6) 2.5" segments and (6) 4.5" segments. From each of remaining 11 sets, cut (6) 6.5" segments. Using 13 main-color strips, cut (64) 8.5" segments. Make 64 blocks.

Twin - 64" x 80" Shopping list: (3) 20-strip main color rolls, (2) 20-strip contrast rolls 80 blocks laid out 8x10 44 main color strips, 28 contrast strips Make (28) 2-strip sets (Step 2). From 14 sets, cut (6) 2.5" segments and (6) 4.5" segments. From each of remaining 14 sets, cut (6) 6.5" segments. Using 16 main-color strips, cut (80) 8.5" segments. Make 80 blocks.

Large Queen Size- 96" x 96" Shopping List: (4) 20-strip main color rolls, (3) 20-strip contrast rolls 144 blocks laid out 12 x 12 77 main color strips, 48 contrast strips Make (48) 2-strip sets (Step 2). From each of 24 sets, cut (6) 2.5" segments and (6) 4.5" segments. From each of remaining 24 sets, cut (6) 6.5" segments. Using 29 main-color strips, cut (144) 8.5" segments. Make 144 blocks. For King Size, follow instructions for Queen Size and enlarge with either (2) jelly roll strip borders, or a 4.5 border cut from yardage to create a 104 x 104 finished size. If using jelly roll strips for borders, you will need 12 additional strips for each border. If using one contrast, and 1 main border, you will need (5) 20-strip main color rolls, and (3) 20-strip contrast rolls.

Layout The easiest way to make sure your layout turns out properly is to lay everything out on the floor before sewing. Taking a picture will also help you spot if anything is off before you start sewing! With the exception of the twin size, all the above sizes are a perfect square. Start with the center block, and build outward: 4 blocks: 16 blocks:

36 Blocks: And so on! Hope you ve enjoyed this little tutorial! Liz K., http://jellyrollfabric.net
