You can open the printer settings screen using one of the following methods. On the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel], and then select [View devices and printers]. Right-click the printer icon for the Sony UP-DR80, and then select [Printing preferences]. The settings that you make here are used as default settings when printing from applications. On the [File] menu of your application, click the command used to make printer settings. The settings made this way only remain valid until you close the application. This guide describes the tabs that appear in the UP-DR80 settings screen. [Paper] tab Basic print related settings. [Graphics] tab Used for setting gray, lightness, and other settings related to image quality. [Watermark] tab Used for settings related to watermarks. With the Watermark function, any favored logos, characters and illustrations can be transparently printed on images. [Watermark] Tab Settings Configure the watermark-related settings. Enable Ring-Around Chart When this check box is selected, 25 variations of the print data are printed on a single page, each with a different gray balance setting based on the Gray Balance X, Gray Balance Y, and Offset Step values configured. [Offset Step] configuration is only enabled when the [Enable Ring-Around Chart] check box is selected. Template Folder Specifies the folder for which watermark templates are stored. Templates need to be stored at the first level of the specified folder. For storing template data, refer to Saving Templates. Avoid the following after the folder is specified: renaming the folder, deleting or moving templates from the folder. Prints will have a glossy finish without a watermark, if a template is not found during the printing procedure. Template Information Displays information about templates stored in the template folder. Restore Defaults Returns all settings that have been changed in the [Graphics] tab to their default settings. There may be some differences in image quality and coloring between the preview image and the actual printed 5

Size Error: Template size is inappropriate. Format Error: File format is not supported. Not Found: File is not recognized. OK: None of the listed problems above is found. When using a template with file status other than OK, prints will be gloss finish without watermarks. For information on how to create templates, refer to Creating Templates. If only Template Folder settings are made, prints will have a glossy finish without a watermark. To print a watermark, select Watermark from Laminate Pattern of the [Paper] Tab Settings. Creating Templates Watermark design needs to be created in an image file format. Create a watermark template in black and white using commercially available photo-editing software. An image will be transparently printed as a result of the black area in the template being matted. Set the template size and template file name, referring to the following: Paper size Template size 1) (horizontal vertical pixels) File name 2) 8 10 2,472 3,056 watermark_8x10.png 8 12 2,472 3,660 watermark_8x12.png 8 10+ 2,472 3,116 watermark_8x10+.png 4 8 2,472 1,220 watermark_4x8.png 6 8 2,472 1,830 watermark_6x8.png 5 7 2,136 1,558 watermark_5x7.png For information on template file format, refer to the following: Gradation: 8 bit 3) Color: Gray scale File format: PNG (no interlace) 4) 1) Follow the horizontal and vertical size as shown in the table above. Prints will not be correct if a template is rotated from the original position. 2) Use the file names listed in the table. A file will not be recognized as a template if it assigned an unregistered name. 3) The printer performs double-gradation processing on a template with a threshold of 128, and produces prints with a watermark. When using a multiple-tone image as a template, it is recommended to first create a double-tone image (black and white) with simulated multiple-gradation processing, and then save the template file in 8-bit gray scale. 4) A file in interlaced format is not supported. Set noninterlaced in the PNG option menu when using photoediting software. s Areas within 48 pixels of the top/bottom edge, and 64 pixels from the left/right edge of a template may not print. Carry out a trial printing before using a watermark template. In some template designs, scratches may be printed on a watermark. To avoid this, reduce the black area in the template or change the design layout of the template. Saving Templates Save a created template in any folder of your computer. Save all the templates corresponding to the required paper sizes in the folder. The unit automatically selects a proper template according to the paper size to be printed. Provide a new template with the proper file name corresponding to its paper size (refer to Creating Templates ). Printing with Image Color Management To print from applications that support Windows Image Color Management (ICM), or to perform ICM color correction in the printer driver, you must install or add (assign to the printer) an ICC profile. The following ICC profile can be found in the ICC Profile folder on the supplied CD-ROM (or in the file downloaded from the Sony website). UP-DR80_UPC-R81X_D50_V100.icm Perform the following to use the ICC profile. Installing the ICC profile 1 Select the icon for the ICC profile you want to use. 2 Right-click the icon, and select [Install Profile]. Adding the ICC profile (assigning profiles to the printer) 1 Click [Start], select [Control Panel], and then select [View devices and printers]. 6

2 Right-click the Sony UP-DR80 printer icon, and select [Printer properties]. 5 Open the [Device] pull-down menu, and select [Printer: Sony UP-DR80]. 6 Select [Use my settings for this device]. 3 Click the [Color Management] tab. 7 Click [Add] to add the profile to be used. 8 Select the profile you want to use from the list that appears, and click [OK]. 4 Click [Color Management]. 9 Confirm that the profile has been added, and click [Close] to close the dialog box. 7

10 Click [OK] to close the properties screen. Specifying the ICC profile on the application side may also be necessary, depending on the application software used. For details, refer to the operating instructions for your application software. Disabling color correction on the printer To print from applications that support Windows Image Color Management (ICM), you must disable color correction on the printer. Refer to the color correction configuration procedure on page 4, and select [None]. 8
