ISTMA - International Special Tooling & Machining Association ISTMA, is an international association representing 24 special tooling and machining associations throughout the World. Collectively, ISTMA member associations represent over 8,000 companies and about 40 billion EURO s in annual sales. United, under this ISTMA-World roof, are the three regional chapters of the association: Americas, Asia and EUROPE.
AMERICAS EUROPE CZECH Republic ESTONIA FINLAND FRANCE GERMANY GREAT BRITAIN ITALY PORTUGAL SLOVENIA SPAIN SWEDEN SWITZERLAND ASIA CANADA USA JAPAN KOREA Chinese TAIPEI CHINA INDIA MALAYSIA PHILIPPINES SINGAPORE THAILAND AUSTRALIA
ISTMA was officially established in EUROPE, in Frankfurt, in 1973 as ISTA. For about 32 years, a firm partnership for stamping tools, die and mould making, precision machining, and special machines has evolved... be it a toolmaker in Tokyo, a mouldmaker in Marinha Grande - Portugal, a machinist in Canada, or a special machine builder in the United States. The industry associations, member companies, and employees benefit from ISTMA membership for its Networking capabilities.
ISTMA-Europe is the European chapter in ISTMA-World and represents the tooling industry of 12 European countries. CZECH Republic ESTONIA FINLAND FRANCE GERMANY GREAT BRITAIN ITALY PORTUGAL SLOVENIA SPAIN SWEDEN SWITZERLAND
Relations with the European Union: lobbying, to promote the participation in European Programs; Interchange on technical subjects; Transfer of performing management actions between the national associations like quality, products, insurance contracts, training initiatives, business statistics and transnational exchanges; To facilitate the exchange of information and knowledge among member companies; To increase sector s visibility and collaboration with specialized magazines, trade fairs and study trips plus plant tours related to the specifics of the sector.

Mouldmaking competitiveness leveraged by Automotive best practices: Focus on core competences Lean Manufacturing Innovation and Product development Technology convergence Supply Chain integration Added value suppliers
Mouldmaking evolved from traditional precision metalworking industry quickly adapted to the specific requirements of the so-called plastics industry and related markets.
Thermoplastics are the materials that contributed to the wide acceptance of consumer goods and used today for an enormous range of components for most familiar products like CARS most of those products are made by injection molding. the success of injection moulded products derives from the capability of designing, engineering and manufacturing the right tools!
Tool, Mould and Die making Companies have been looking upon complementary technologies and knowledge that continuously can be integrated into more complex chains of engineering and manufacturing with greater potential of added value in the GLOBAL Market.
In the actual GLOBAL Market, peoples of the World are part of a complex system a system of many correlations and co-dependencies a system not only complex, but dynamic constantly in motion and changing. It is an amalgam of trillions of decisions as nearly 6.4 billion individuals seek to earn their livings striving for a better life and more power over their human and physical environments
Low cost production countries - namely Asian - and their manufacturing companies are developing, at a speedy pace from low cost production sites of tooling, automotive parts and components to worldclass competitors with fully developed engineering, development and manufacturing capabilities.
Toolmakers have to develop a strategic transformation of their businesses based on: The supply of Innovative Solutions for Product and Process Engineering (INNOVATION); The constant promotion of Strategic, Technological and Business Partnerships on a global scale (NETWORKS); Constant specialized professional training (KNOW-HOW); Consistent Technological Investment (TECHNOLOGY);
Monitoring Tasks and Targets: Reduction of the product development time; Reduction of the delivering time; Reduction of costs; Customized service; Improvement in Client satisfaction; Better approach to Market; Open flexible and agile - for new Markets and Business opportunities
Size and power of Tool, Mould & Die companies is very small compared to their customers and suppliers weakest link in the chain difficulties to face globalisation HOWEVER Tool-making industry plays a strategic role in ensuring competitiveness and sustainability in many key industrial sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, electronics, packaging, house appliances, etc.
What MANUFACTURING de-localization will do for EUROPE s Industry? not only tool, mould and die making!!! What needs to be done?? Tool, Mould and Die companies and Automotive Industry????
Globalization created an extended need for interdependency and networking skills. A company cannot rely anymore on itself and be isolated from its surrounding atmosphere. The individuality of each unit in the actual chain of value tends to be less important in favour of an integrated whole..... Be, or be part, of a Network
the WORLD has become more open and efficient; Companies are moving and developing according to these facts. In the Global market, sustainability depends on competitive strength... Any Company needs to continuously rethink its position in the market and readjust faster to its needs and trends. innovation, compressing time and costs are the current Challenges and the windows for Opportunities!
the actual challenges can only be tackled with a coordinated and cooperative effort of all significant players: companies, suppliers, research, development and innovation agents and trade associations concerned with our industry, and through an enabling and comprehensive approach to Customers and Market encompassing the entire supply chain.
