SYNOPSIS 1920 s Berlin is a bustling metropolis. Having just survived the horrors of World War I, people are reveling in a life of expensive parties and lavish entertainment at the grand Varietés. However, alongside the glamour a crime wave has hit the city. Organized criminal gangs are plaguing Berlin and the head of the Berlin 1 police district, Chief Inspector Paul Lang (Friedrich Mücke), is charged with breaking these vicious networks of crime. His close friend, prosecutor Barnekow (Trystan Pütter), is found dead in the crocodile pool of Berlin Zoo. And it seems clear to a detective mastermind like Lang that the murder was the handiwork of his great rival, Immanuel Tauss (Tobias Moretti), the former head of a criminal ring called The Crocodiles. But Tauss is in prison... So how could he have planned such a crime? With the help of his assistant, Conrad Ruppert (Frederick Lau), and his secretary, Masha Kampe (Emilia Schüle), Lang investigates the case. On one Berlin night he finds himself thrown into the world of ruthless social climber, Viktor Parkov (Oliver Masucci), and the fascinating owner of a Varietés club, Irma Berger (Antje Traue). The discovery of another dead body offers a surprising twist to the case, as Lang becomes embroiled in a dangerous personal feud with his arch enemy Immanuel Tauss.
