Athens EVS 2017/ 2018 MICHEL LEPAINTEUR ROBERTA GRECO with NGO Civis-Plus Creative class

AIM Creative class seeks to develop and strengthen creative skills, build selfesteem, develop a sense of self-importance and individuality, encourage self-expression and stimulate imagination in children. From January to June 2017. N.GO. Civis-Plus Athens

ABSTRACT This is a short booklet about the activities developed by Michel Lepainteur and Roberta Greco during their EVS (European Volunary Service). They carried out the Creative Class implemented by the programme "After School" of the N.G.O. Civis- Plus. Art, freedom and creativity will change society faster than politics. Victor Pinchuk

AFTER SCHOOL Afterschool is a programme of Civis-Plus aimed to the integration of refugees and migrants kids, in the school enviroment and in society in general.

Let's start B E C R E A T I V E P U B L I S H E D I N A T H E N S

J A N U A R Y 2 0 1 7 Frame sticks Collect enough ice creams sticks for all the children. Say to them to colour the sticks and then to paste them with glue to make a frame. Them make a drawing for the frame, asking to choose a topic from their dreams. The lesson had the Greek music of Χατιζιδάκισ on vinyl to show to them this medium for musical. S T I C K S F R A M E

Snow flakes J E N U A R Y 2 0 1 7 Give each kid one sheet of white paper. Tell them to draw a circle on it using a template and then cut it with scissors.. The next step is to bend the shapes in a proper way. Then the kids have to draw their name if they can or to draw just shapes like triangle, circles, star, hearts and so on. Then they have to cut along the trace and when they open it will have their own snow flake. Then we make a poster with all the snowflakes. S N O W F L A K E S

J E N U A R Y 2 0 1 7 Teaching Goal: Explain to kids that every snow flake is unique just like every person. Develop manual skill using scissor and glue. Follow straightfowards tasks. Work together helping each other. S N O W F L A K E S

F E B R U A R Y 2 0 1 7 Glue drawing: Give each kid a sheet of colour papers. The kids draw something that they want on it. Then they have to cover the parts of the draw with glue being careful. Then, using glitter and colored salt they have to cover the glue choosing which colour to use. At the end we make a poster with all the brilliant, shiny works. This activity is not recommended if you are worried about making a mess in the class: glue + glitter are a bad combination for furnitures and clothes. Instead of glitter you can use salt and then color it with water colors. G L U E D R A W I N G

Carnival masks: F E B R U A R Y 2 0 1 7 In the carnival period we want to create with kids carnival masks. We leave them the choice of the subject of the masks. The masks could be also abstract. We use cardboard for the mask, rubber band to place them on the face, and then glitters, water colors, oil colors to color them. We'll prepare spidermen, bunnie templates for the kids who can t draw a mask by themselves. C A R N I V A L M A S K S

Reusing toilet paper rolls: F E B R U A R Y 2 0 1 7 Collect enough toilet paper roll for all the kids. The lesson starts with an explanation why reusing items is important. Then we show the kid the shapes that they have to cut for the wings, the fuselage and so on. Who wants can also cut cuties bears and the steps to follow are the same apart from the shapes. The next step is to assemble all the pieces. At the end the kids have to decorate their planes or bears as they want. P A P E R R O L L S C R A F T

PAPER FLOWERS: M A R C H 2 0 1 7 Make flowers by using colorful crepe paper. First step: Take a stick (a thin one that you use for meat) and roll it with a stripe of crepe paper. Then fix it with glue. Second step: Cut some pieces of paper in the shape of leaves (you can cut the shape you prefer : heart or what else). After this step fix them on the stick by using tapr. P A P E R F L O W E R S

PAPER FLOWERS: M A R C H 2 0 1 7. Third step: take a small piece of paper and give to it the shape of a ball. Put it on the top of the stick and again use some drops of glue for fix it to the stick Now it's time to createthe colorful part of the flower : PETALS! Let children decide what shape, colours and size give to petals, Is important to explein them how that they are free to make as many flowers as they want. P A P E R F L O W E R S

Rainbow colour: M A R C H 2 0 1 7 The colors in a rainbow are: Red,Orange, Yellow,Green,Blue,Indigo,Violet.A good way to remember this order is to remember the name: ROY G. BIV.Paint a rainbow in the correct order of colors with watercolors (or tempera) paint. OPTIONAL: If using watercolors, while the paint is still wet, you can sprinkle some salt on the rainbow and the colors will run together. Then, when the paint dries, the salt can be rubbed gently off the paper. This is a good lesson for teaching children how colors blend to make new colors. P A P E R R O L L S C R A F T

Easter Egg Wreath: M A R C H 2 0 1 7 Blow up a balloon and try to give it a egg shape. Next step is to create a mix of glue and water. Then you have to immerse the yarn in the mix of glue and you have to make sure the it absorb enough glue. We can use also pieces of papers from the newspaper instead of the yarn. Now it's the messy part. We use some plastic bags to cover the tables and to prevent the dirt from spreading all around. E A S T E R

Easter Egg Wreath: A P R I L 2 0 1 7 The next step is to roll up the balloon with the yarn or with paper. It has to be well cover and after that it has to be hanged on a string to let the glue dry. We have to put some plastic bag under the balloon to cattch he falling glue. The balloon will be ready the next week because it needs at least 2 days at least to dry. When it is ready you have to pierce the balloon and take it out from the wreath.. E A S T E R

Easter Candles: A P R I L 2 0 1 7 A traditional craft for Easter. You should know that in Greece, a Orthodox country, the custom of dyeing eggs red is really popular, as well as a funny game called τσούγκρσμα (which means "clinking together" or "clashing"), the egg tapping. We paint also some candles a composition for the traditional "epitaphio", the celebration during the liturgical services of Good Friday and Holy Saturday. E A S T E R

FIRST OF MAY: M A Y 2 0 1 7 To celebrate the spring and the first of May that's coming we make a poster for the class. We start the class talking about what spring makes us feel and what we do in that period. Afterwards we split boys and girls and we ask them where they prefer to go on Spring. Each group has to start to draw on a poster if they prefer to go to a countryside or to the seaside or both. Meanwhile take photographs of the kids faces and print them. F I R S T O F M A Y

FIRST OF MAY M A Y 2 0 1 7 Afterwards we stick the faces on the poster and then as soon as the drawing is finished the kids can start to paint the poster with the water colors. The next step is to make the garland on the kids' head photocopies. We do that with coloured papers stick on the forehead. The result will be two posters with kids' face withe garland and on the back what they imagined, drawn and painted of the place where they would be on Spring.. F I R S T O F M A Y

TEXTURE LESSON: Begin with a short discussion on texture. (what is texture?) Students will make a texture on a paper with their shoeprints. Next, add details to the rubbing to create a M A Y 2 0 1 7 monster. (add eyes, arms, legs, teeth, horns, etc... ) Cut out the monsters, being careful not to cut off details that were added. Afterwards divide class into two groups at least. Students will now create an environment for their monsters. Glue monsters to alarge piece of craft paper. T E X T U R E L E S S O N Use oil crayons to complete the monsters' world.

ABOUT M A Y 2 0 1 7 MANDALAS: We start the lesson talking about the mandala concept. The symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. We print some for the kids and we color them with water colors and we put them on a poster with all the kids names under the respective mandalas. The result will be a colorful poster. The other activity involeves making craft with ropes. The craft works are made with ropes and plastic plates. Both activities are prepared to check the concentration of the kids and their will to elaborate an art piece together. A B O U T M A N D A L S

ABOUT MANDALAS: M A Y 2 0 1 7 A B O U T M A N D A L S

COLOUR ANIMAL: You have to print ten animals including a J U N E 2 0 1 7 bat, a butterfly, a dragonfly, a elephant, a fox, an iguana, an owl, a raccoon, a rhino and a turtle. Use these resources in the classroom in some of the following ways: As calm mindfulness resources to give to kids a chance to be aware of the moment and reflect on their feelings and thoughts. Let children colour the printouts as a calm way to start each day. Challenge children to colour them using a range of materials. Which do they prefer and why? C O L O U R A N I M A L S

J U N E 2 0 1 7 COLOUR ANIMALS: Ask your students to colour them using different shades of one colour. Give children these resources and then ask them to create similar pictures based on their own favourite animals. Have the resources available as an activity for children who have finished other activities early. C O L O U R A N I M A L S
