Page 1 of 8 Sewing Classes November 2017 to January 2018 Booking a Class All classes must be paid for in full at the time of booking. Payments for all classes are non-refundable and are nontransferable unless we are able to fill your place. Essential Class Info: 1. Within 1 week of booking we will e-mail you the list of materials required (all are available to purchase from the shop) and cutting out instructions. Please contact us ASAP with any queries. 2. Purchase all materials before coming to the class. 3. Apart from Starting Out classes, it is essential that all cutting out is done at home (unfortunately we do not have the facilities for cutting out during the class). 4. It helps to bring your own sewing machine but if you need to use one of ours please let us know. 5. For all classes (apart from Know Your Machine) you will need to know how to use a sewing machine. 6. To save time we advise that you wind your bobbin and thread your machine at home. 7. Arrive 10 min early so you can get set up. It will give you more time for learning the sewing techniques the class is aimed at. 8. During each class you will make the item we have designed and to the dimensions we have specified. By booking a class you agree to all the conditions set out above. Know Your Overlocker Bring along your overlocker and learn all about it s different parts, how to thread it, which stitches and settings to use and how to troubleshoot the most common problems. Crazy For Cushions Learn how to create fabulous cushions to personalise your home. Make either a plain cushion or a two tone cushion using complementary fabrics and complete the look with buttons on the back. Materials required 50cm x115/137cm of fabric for plain cushion (or 50cm x 115/137cm each of two different fabrics for two tone cushion), thread, 3 or 4 buttons, 50cm ribbon or trim (optional). Lizzie Totally Tote Bag If you love bags this is for you. Make your own fully lined bag with basic machine appliqué decoration. Materials required 50cm x 115/137cm of main fabric, 50cm x 115cm/137cm of fabric for lining and appliqué, thread, 25cm Bondaweb. Ellen Storage Baskets The perfect storage solution and so pretty too! You choose which size to make small H 15cm x D 14cm, medium H 21cm x D 19cm, Large H 29cm x D 24cm. Materials required 25(30; 40)cm x 112cm outer fabric, 25(30; 40)cm x 112cm outer fabric, 2/3 packs heavy weight interfacing, 2m ribbon/webbing, thread. Door Stop Doorstops are great for adding a personal touch to a room. In this class you will sew a doorstop with carry handle and add some simple machine appliqué. Materials required 2 co-ordinating fabric fat quarters, 1kg bag of rice, 100g soft polyester filling, thread. Oven Gloves Always so useful and a wonderful gift as well. Sewn with heat resistant wadding, burnt fingers will be a thing of the past. Materials required 25cm x 137cm (or 40cm x 112cm) fabric, 40cm x 112cm fabric for lining, 20cm x 225cm cotton wadding, 60cm x 55cm Insul-Bright insulated lining, 2.5m bias binding, thread. Sewing Machine Mat A handy and padded sewing machine mat with useful front pockets, as well as detachable pin cushion and scrap basket. Due to space and time constraints you will make a small sample roman blind and we will show you how to measure up, work out how much Classes designed to teach specific sewing skills. Tuesday 16th January 6pm to 8pm Roman Blind New date coming soon!! How To Back A Quilt Saturday 13th January 9.30am to 11.30am Piping, Bias Binding, Zip and Concealed Zip Spend a couple of hours learning how to do four of the most useful sewing techniques. Materials required scrap fabric, 50cm piping cord, 1m bias binding, 7 zip, 8 concealed zip, thread, zipper foot and concealed zipper foot for machine. Free Motion Machine Appliqué Learn how to draw with your sewing machine. We will show you the basic techniques for creating so many beautiful pictures. Materials required background fabric, fabric scraps, contrasting thread, light weight iron-on interfacing, Bondaweb, free motion embroidery foot for machine. How to Sew Jersey/Stretch Fabric Sewing with stretch fabric can be daunting but it needn t be. We will show you how to cut out, stabilise your fabric, and tackle seams, facings, hems and so much more. Materials required scraps of jersey fabric, thread, 50cm hemming tape. How to Back a Quilt Backing and binding a quilt top is the final stage before your quilt is ready to use. This class will teach you the quilting and binding techniques that you will use over and over again. Materials required scraps of fabric (at least three pieces 50cm x 50cm), 50cm x 50cm wadding, thread, free motion foot for machine. In The Bag Is there such a thing as having too many bags?!! Great classes for confident stitchers. Festive Christmas Makes Christmas is such a wonderful time for sewing as there are always so many beautiful ornaments we can adorn our homes with. Cost: 30 which of our gorgeous quilts you d like to make: Saturday 2nd December 12.30pm to 3.30pm Christmas Tree Ornament Join us to make a festive tree to adorn your Christmas mantlepiece or fireplace. At 23cm high it would also make a great centre piece on your Christmas table. It is essential that you cut out at home. Materials required fat quarter (50cm x 55cm) each of 3 different fabrics, 2.5m pompom trim, 1 large pompom, thread, wooden skewer, wooden reel, masking tape, soft toy filling, ¼ foot for machine (optional). Christmas Tree Skirt As well as making a reversible quilted tree skirt, learn how to create the 3D trees using the eye-catching twist technique. It is essential that you cut out at home. Materials required 40cm x 112cm each of 2 fabrics (twists), 2 x fat quarters (tree backgrounds), 50cm x 112cm sashing fabric, 90cm x 112cm backing fabric, 90cm square cotton or 2oz wadding, 4m bias binding, thread, ¼ foot for machine. Christmas Stocking Get ready for Christmas with this gorgeous full size stocking which is fully lined and has basic machine applique decoration. Materials required 3 fat quarters (50cm x 55cm) 1 each for main fabric, contrast and lining (or 50cm x 112cm for directional prints), 20cm x 45cm Bondaweb, 50cm x 1m 2oz wadding, 17cm ribbon, thread. Free Motion Applique Stag Cushion Stitch the stag onto the cushion using free motion appliqué and create piping using remainder of the appliqué fabric. It is essential that you cut out at home. Materials required 50cm x 112/137cm main fabric, fat quarter for appliqué, light weight interfacing, 30cm x 30cm Bondaweb, 2m piping cord, thread, 3 buttons. Dressmaking Sessions Whatever your ability, bring along your latest dressmaking project. Leanne will be on hand to guide you through the garment construction. Page 6 of 8 Quilting with Sue O Riordan Sue from Barn Creations is another very talented quilter and teacher and we are very excited to add her to the teaching team. Cost: 40 Christmas Table Runner Friday 1st December 10am to 2pm Block of the Month Block 1 Wednesday 17th January - 10am to 2pm th Saturday 20 January 10am to 2pm Block of the Month Starting in January, on the third Saturday of every month Sue will be teaching a new technique to create a block, with suggestions on how to quilt this block. At the end of the class you will leave with the skills you need to complete this block and a pattern to create a second block using these skills. You can create up to 16 blocks and this quilt will be large enough to cover a king size bed. Unlike many BOM courses, you will not be left with a quilt top and no idea how to turn this into a quilt: piecing and quilting your blocks month by month means you will have it completely finished by the end of the course. Block 1: Christmas Table Runner Join Sue to make this stunning table runner. The intricate design is made simple using foundation paper piecing, so if you have not tried this before, now is your chance! Materials required Star 2 fat quarters one of each a light and dark fabric, Square 1 fat quarter (NB choose fabrics with no obvious direction as this makes construction much more difficult), Background 50cm fabric, Backing 50cm fabric Wadding (optional) 50cm x length of runner and a small amount extra, thread, packed lunch. Quilting with Sally Griffen Sally from Sweet Little Things is a very talented quilter and teacher and has designed some wonderful quilting projects. Sally has lots of ideas for future classes so watch this space. Cost: 40 Choose a date that works for you: Saturday 25th November 10am to 2.30pm Stained Glass Rose Panel Spend a few hours creating a beauitful stained glass panel with rose design. Materials required 5m black Clover fusible bias binding, fat quarter of light fabric for background, 3 green fabric fat quarters for leaves, 3 coloured fabric fat quarters for rose, 25cm x 112cm wide plain fabric for borders, 25cm Bondaweb, thread, 3mm twin needle for machine, pencil, packed lunch. Materials required up to 5 fat quarters, 16 square wadding, 16 square of backing fabric, thread, sewing machine, scissors, cutting mat, rotary cutter, 6 x 24 ruler, 12½ square ruler.

With this in mind, I am very excited to introduce our summer Simply Sewing sessions. Each session is 5/hour and you can help yourself to tea/coffee, cold drinks and biscuits.
