Cox Family Collection Adams County Historical Society Accession No(s): 2002.134 Home Location: Rm 203, Rack 2, Shelf F-G Rack 3, Shelf A PREFACE The Adams County Historical Society was established to foster interest in the history of Adams County and vicinity, conduct research, preserve records and objects, mark sites, and pursue such activities as may be related to the history of the community. The Society s collections are privately held, maintained, and made available to the public for research purposes at the discretion of the governing authority of the institution and its staff. INTRODUCTION The Cox Family Collection was acquired by the Adams County Historical Society in November of 2002 as the bequest of the Betty Cox Estate. The collection was processed in January of 2004. ACCESS This collection is open for research, and viewing access to the materials is unrestricted. However, restrictions apply concerning the use, duplication, or publication of items. Please consult research room staff for specific information regarding the Society s policies. PREFERRED CITATION The Cox Family Collection, Adams County Historical Society, Gettysburg, PA. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Many years of genealogical research are contained in the collection. The collection was acquired by the Historical Society from Betty Cox who no doubt contributed to the mass of research for the various families represented. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The collection is made up of wills, deeds, marriage records, tax records, estate papers, family histories, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photos, birth records, death records, church records and cemetery records. SERIES DESCRIPTIONS Series 1 Family Genealogy Information This series contains genealogical information on the Barnett, Cox, French, Gibbs, Gilliland, Gornwell/Cornwell, Godfrey, Harper, Hunter, Moore, Page, Purdy, Pollock, Maddox, Graham, Horn,

Garritson, Bateman, Wise, Vincent, Settle, Richards, Rucker, Wierman, Stivers, Tennis, Noell, and Watts families. Also contained in the series are other miscellaneous family files. The amount of information available varies by family with the most being relevant to the Cox family.
