FOUNDRY CORED WIRE FOR LIQUID METAL TREATMENT Wire d.o.o. Podjetje za izdelavo in polnjenje valjanih profilov Limbuška cesta 2, SI - 2341 Limbuš, Slovenija, tel.: +386 2 673 03 60, fax: +386 2 673 03 61 Wire d.o.o. Podjetje za izdelavo in polnjenje valjanih profilov

COMPANY PROFILE Cored wire is a relatively new product. It began to be used no earlier than twenty years ago. During the cored wire manufacturing process, adequate tools first form a steel strip into a channel. Then the filling device fills it with filler. The channel filled with filler is formed so that it gets a turn-up, which is then closed. Thus, a pipe is made from a steel strip. Other tools calibrate this pipe and wind the coil. The filled pipe or its profile has been manufactured. Due to the English terms (cored wire), it is called polna / strženska žica in Slovene. The cored wire is manufactured on special state-of-the-art automated production lines. Thanks to them, the only tasks the workers need to do are: preparing the lines, monitoring and exercising control over production, packing and storing of new products. Cored wire is designed for liquid metal treatment in steel industry, foundries and in other metallurgical production. The type of the filler, with which a cold rolled steel strip is filled up, primarily depends on its further use. The most widely spread filler for manufacturing the cored wire is silico calcium. In addition, many other alloys, metals, non-metals and the most varied mixtures of these materials are used as fillers. The cored wire production in Slovenia commenced in 1989, when the cored wire works was established within the framework of the company called Tovarna dušika Ruše. In 1996, the Filum Company Ltd took over the cored wire works at the location of Tovarna dušika Ruše In 1999, we started cored wire production by using our own manufacturing equipment and a special procedure of manufacture, which was developed and patented within the framework of our company Wire d.o.o. In 2005 our company moved into new business and production premises, located in the Limbuš business park in Maribor.

In comparison with other inoculants, the Ba inoculant creates a high nucleation rate immediately after being added to the melt. This rate decreases with time more slowly (low effect of fading). It is recommended to be used for inoculation in early stages of production process, e.g. two core treatment of melt in ladle. It is recommended to be used also in thick-wall castings.
