Earthsearch: A Kids Geography Museum in a Book Earthsearch is the biggest Klutz project ever the ultimate do-it book. Written and created by John Cassidy, Earthsearch was four long years in research and production. The subject of all this effort? Geography. But don t be confused, this is not the geography of state capitals and river names. Geography, the way Earthsearch tackles it, is everything from the tip of your nose going out. That covers a lot of ground (and maybe that helps explain all the work). Bound directly into the book are 21 different exhibits things besides paper and ink. The signs of course, are the pages and photographs that accompany them. They are meant to answer the questions that playing with the exhibits naturally raises. Earthsearch #3102 $20.00
Watercolor for the Artistically Undiscovered A few years ago, we approached author/illustrator Thacher Hurd with the idea of creating a how-to book on the subject of watercolor. Thacher s enthusiastic style and wild palette combined to make art, watercolor, storytelling and life in general seem like so much fun that we were sure the book-making chemistry would work. We have seldom been more accurate in our predictions. Physically, the book is nine inches square. Most of the pages are watercolor paper reserved for the use of the reader/painter (that s you). Thacher s artwork squeezes onto the edges of the regular printed pages (there are 24), where you can also find plenty of tips and techniques. Permanently attached to the book is a sixcolor box of Reeves Watercolors and a #5 Winsor & Newton brush. Both the paints and the brush are artist-quality. The entire package is ready to use. But more importantly, the artwork is so disarming, the colors are so wild, and the instructions are so goofily inspirational that nobody is discouraged. Leave your insecurities at the door; there are no mistakes in Thacher s world. Watercolor for the Artistically Undiscovered #2101 $20.00
The Rubber Chicken Book A Fine Collection of Bad Skits, Goofball Stunts, Front-Yard Acrobatics and Really Dumb Jokes The story of The Rubber Chicken Book began more than four years ago, when a wandering nine-year-old taught us two valuable life lessons: one, how to poke our fingers through our heads, and two, how to support a pea on a column of air (lung power only). We promptly began a new file, locked inside our secret mountain vault. We called it Knowledge, Vital. Bit by bit the file grew. We discovered how to kick a field goal with a plumber s helper, we were told the only good Knock-Knock joke ever told, we learned how to read the future in a tennis Ever at a loss for words when you need to ask someone to step away while you attend to shoe, we learned how something important...? Try these: Why don t you take a long walk on a short pier? Make like a tree and leave. to break our Go tell your mother she s calling you. You should be on the stage. There s noses time and one leaving at noon. I hope you get ahead in the future. You could use one. again (or at least Or maybe you d like to stop someone from playing the piano...? Try these: sound like it), we Why don t you play Far, Far Away? Why don t you play learned ALL the I ll help you out? verses to Great Green Gobs... and we learned more, MUCH more. Last year, we realized our file had finally achieved critical mass. Lou Brooks was brought in to illustrate our little treasure trove and an astounding book of hambone humor, cornpone theatrics and knockaround fun stuff was born. Packaged with each copy are a squeaker and three chicken eggs which look exactly like real ones until you throw them down onto a cement floor and they bounce. KidsGardening: An Indoor/Outdoor Year-Round Activity Guide We designed KidsGardening to be the prequel to our Kids Cooking book. (We wanted our cooks to know from whence those carrots really came.) The book is 92 full-color pages long. We printed it on wipe-clean, abuse-proof cardstock, and bound it all together in a spiral for utility and survival power. Our hope is for this book to go out into the mud and come back alive. We include a kidproof trowel and seven varieties of flower, vegetable and herb seeds, all selected to grow in any North American climate. The activities are good indoors or out, and the instructions work anywhere from Texas to Toronto. KidsGardening #1122 $14.00
The Klutz Book of Magic Quit your day job. Go ahead. You won t need it any more. Not if you own The Klutz Book of Magic. Printed on durable cardstock in full color and spiralbound to lay flat while you work, the book comes with five props: a silk scarf, a chrome ring, a nylon string and two others so secret we can t describe them here.
