Abstracts of our X-pert Center presentations Offshore drilling: DP3 Closed ring for offshore vessels Innovative solution packages for offshore drilling that deliver reliable operation and high availability are in great demand and this is exactly what Siemens has to offer. Our solutions are based on our extensive expertise in electrical technology, instrumentation, telecommunications, water treatment, and rotating equipment, and on our years of hands-on experience in the oil and gas business and marine applications. Power management is of central importance for dynamic positioning. Failures in the power system, component failure, or external faults should be identified as soon as they occur and be immediately isolated from the rest of the system. In a DP3 system operating mode in a closed-ring configuration, this is all taken care of. And in the event of a malfunction in the primary safeguarding devices, a back-up system goes into operation. Siemens has worked with drilling principals and the classification society to develop solutions for operating in DP3 mode with a single, fully integrated power system. BlueDrive compact drilling Vessel owners are facing new environmental regulations from governments and international legislation. Several coastal countries have established stricter emission regimes. Siemens answer is the BlueDrive, available for a wide range of vessels. BlueDrive offers a broad portfolio of technologies to enhance safety and reliability, reduce costs and emissions, save space and weight, and improve operation and ease of maintenance.
Integrated operations Securing your equipment uptime and performance Siemens provides complete electrical, automation, and telecom systems for the offshore production market. This presentation will discuss how enhanced characteristics in the automation system support integrated operation. More importantly, the presentation will also discuss how Siemens integrated operation technology can be used to deliver better uptime and system performance in offshore production systems. Produced water re-injection design and considerations To help meet the challenges of offshore produced water treatment and disposal, Siemens offers produced water re-injection solutions created from a combination of proprietary technologies, including hydrocyclones, media filtration, and sulfate removal. Intelligent system design and other considerations, including footprint and system weight, are critical for successful water management. This presentation will discuss options for produced water re-injection and will offer insights into ongoing developments in advanced produced water treatment.
Remote connectivity How to make more of the data Current technology provides a wealth of information which, if correctly analyzed, can lead to cost savings in maintenance, reduced downtime, and a host of other benefits. To make the most of this valuable data, Siemens provides a solution package for remote connectivity that offers customers the opportunity to continuously monitor their assets via the control system. Gas turbine life extension on platforms including HSE KP4 The Aging and Life Extension Inspection Program (KP4) for gas turbines is a key element in managing HSE (health, safety, and environment) requirements. It aims at promoting awareness and management of the risks associated with aging plants in the offshore oil and gas industry. We are committed to supporting our customers in reaching their HSE goals. Lifecycle management of aging centrifugal gas compressors in the offshore environment This presentation focuses on Siemens approach to the lifetime assessment of aging centrifugal gas compressors. It is part of our program Fitness for continued service assessment, which entails mechanical inspections and control system assessment (for example, monitoring obsolescence and formulating inspection plans). TB gas turbine Life begins at 40 Siemens TB gas turbine has been proving itself in service for over 40 years. During this time, over 870 TB gas turbines have been sold worldwide, clocking up an impressive 86 million fleet operating hours. To continue the life of this highly regarded unit, Siemens has developed several upgrades for the TB gas turbine with the goal of reducing lifecycle costs and improving reliability. Automation over the plant lifecycle From FEED to commissioning and beyond, this short presentation gives an overview of Siemens developments that integrate automation with engineering. This results in major benefits, including reduced engineering time as well as always up-to-date documentation.
Siemens Subsea Improved recovery and reduced costs through technology Subsea production and boosting systems support the oil and gas industry in improving recovery factors and minimizing operating costs. Many of these technologies are still in their infancy, and the innovations required for operations in ever-deeper waters places special demands on solution suppliers. Siemens is at the forefront of this trend in the areas of power supply, water treatment, rotating equipment, and automation. For decades, this foundation of experience has enabled us to actively develop new subsea technologies. Our presentation will concentrate on all three focal fields of our portfolio: subsea products, subsea systems, and subsea LCM. Our Subsea Power Grid which integrates power supply, subsea switchgear, step-down transformers, and variable-speed drives is currently in the detailed design and test phase. It will facilitate large-scale subsea processing for operators around the world. Rotating equipment in the offshore industry The presentation reveals the market challenges and the requirements placed on the Siemens portfolio of cen trifugal compressors and gas turbines in offshore platforms, FPSOs, floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG), and subsea applications. It focuses on our light industrial gas turbines from five to 40 MW for mechanical drive and power generation, and also on our STC-ECO and STC-SV (HP compressor) gas compressors.
Reducing emissions from offshore operations Power generation facilities on platforms and FPSOs are a major source of emissions. Reducing these emissions can be a challenge for facility operators, especially if produced gas is used for fuel. This is due to the variation in the composition of the produced gas, both over time and depending on the actual source of the hydrocarbons. Dry low emission (DLE) combustion systems are often the right solution. This presentation shows how a simple DLE system can adjust itself to compensate for variations in gas fuel composition, and references an actual application of the system on an offshore platform. Efficient and economical energy for heavy oil field operations Heavy oil production creates many challenges for the operator. One of them is how to produce the heat and power needed for the process. Often there is insufficient associated gas available to fuel the power plant. An alternative fuel needs to be considered, or else gas must be imported from other sources. This presentation looks at how a gas turbine-based cogeneration system can efficiently produce the energy required, while minimizing both economic and environmental impacts by utilizing the produced crude or a mixture of crude oil and associated gas as the primary fuel. Advances in media filtration The Monosep high-flow walnut-shell filtration system from Siemens has proven to be effective for removing free oil, grease, and suspended solids in oil-field produced water and other applications. The simplified proprietary filter design requires no moving equipment to perform backwashes, and greatly reduces the volume of backwash water produced compared with other walnut-shell filter designs. In addition, the filter s design helps reduce weight and footprint and lowers the cost of multiple filtration systems. New proprietary media could also produce a filter capable of withstanding significantly higher oil loading and longer loading durations before requiring a backwash. This presentation will discuss advances in media filtration.
