By PathRes4 The quality of this text is highly dependent on who will be using it... If you are a student... This book is great for a person who is just trying to get a gestalt of the major body fluids and the general range of cells that can be found in them. There are many cartoon pictures that have exaggerated depictions of each cell's salient features. The photographs of real life examples are of good technical quality and each picture has an accompanying histologic description and concise clinical history. There are also large cartoon diagrams of typical clinical procedures used to obtain each specimen type (e.g. lumbar puncture for CSF) which is good for those with no clinical experience. The format is helpful to a person who is learning to distinguish cytologic characteristics of varying cell types and major features about each cell line. This a good book for getting your feet wet and learning the basics. If you are a laboratorian, healthcare worker or pathologist (like me)... This book is NOT helpful and I would not recommend it at all for a benchtop resource. There are way too many cartoons showing picture perfect examples of each entity (which is certainly NOT the case in real life). The layout of the book is not user friendly for a desk reference text. For example, if you are examining a CSF slide, you have to flip between the CSF chapter at the beginning of the book (for general appearances of common cells often found in the CSF), to the "Lining Cells" chapter (for ependymal cells, choroid plexus, etc.), to the "Miscellaneous Cells" chapter (for neural tissue in the CSF, etc.), to the "Microorganisms" chapter at the back of the book (for CNS amoebiasis, Crypto, etc.); and if you think the process is hematopoietic in origin, then you have to flip through each one of the myeloid/lymphoid lineage chapters (which are mostly shown in the peripheral blood). Excellent for training and reference! By Simone G. I was estatic to find this book...amazing price and in perfect condition. My intention is to absorb the content of this book by osmosis : ) I love the diagrams, the location of specific body fluids, and which cells to expect from body locations. The CAP photos are crisp, detailed and color accurate. Extremely helpful and reassuring to have this reference on hand. BUY it! See all 3 customer reviews...
