Tissue 201 Operations & Runnability: Instructor Bios COURSE CO-CHAIR: JEFF PETERS - BTG AMERICAS Email: jeff.peters@btg.com Module 6: Creping Best Practices Jeff graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He started his career with Hercules Incorporated. Over his 23 year career he spent time in field sales, Global Tissue Applications, Tissue Business Management and Global Tissue Marketing. Jeff left the paper industry for a few years to test his entrepreneurial spirit. Four years ago, he joined BTG Americas as the organization's Tissue Applications Manager. DAVID W. WELSFORD SOLENIS Email: dwelsford@solenis.com Module 7: Yankee Coating Systems David Welsford has held various technical and operations roles within the Canadian and US paper industries and focused solely on tissue during the last 23 years. As an Applications Project Manager for the Hercules Division of Solenis LLC, David balances his research and product development interests with the implementation and problem-solving required to ensure that tissue chemistries are functioning at their best. A Canadian living in the United States for the past 10 years, David holds a Bachelor's Degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of British Columbia (1989).

MATT GREGERSEN - ALBANY INTERNATIONAL Email: matthew_gregersen@albint.com Module 2: Forming Fabric Options and Benefits Matt is celebrating his 25th year in the paper industry. As product manager for tissue with Albany International, he is responsible for tissue forming fabric applications, managing the tissue forming product portfolio and product development for the Americas. Prior to Albany, Matt worked for machine builders Beloit and Valmet. He was a mechanical engineer in the forming engineering group with Beloit and a project leader for pilot paper machine trials with an emphasis on the wet end and tissue with both Beloit and Valmet. Matt graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. GARY FURMAN- NALCO Email: gfurman@nalco.com Module 1: Wet End Chemistry Impacts and Optimization In his current position at Nalco Water an Ecolab Company, Gary is responsible for research and new product development in the tissue grade segment. He has spent the past 28 years at Nalco in various research, management and marketing positions. He is an inventor on 31 U.S. patents and an author or coauthor on 47 papers and presentations published in scientific and industry journals, or made at technical conferences. Gary obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from Lebanon Valley College and both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in paper science from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI. His interest in tissue technology was initially fostered by his employment as a researcher at Kimberly-Clark Corporation immediately following graduate school. Gary is also a member of the American Chemical Society and TAPPI.

MARK A. SORENSON - ANDRITZ PULP & PAPER Email: mark.sorenson@andritz.com Module 11: Tissue Calendaring Mark began career as an engineering co-op student with Beloit Corporation in 1974. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. His professional work began at Beloit Corporation primarily in the calender and reel areas where his primary duties included start-up of new equipment, troubleshooting equipment and process related problems, process review of R&D results, and design engineering of specialized areas. In 1996, Beloit formed a joint venture company with Eduard Küsters of Krefeld, Germany. Mark became Director of Operations for Küsters Beloit, LLC continuing the engineering of the ex-beloit product lines for the joint venture and working as liaison to the German operations; then took on the role of Director of Sales and Engineering. In 2006, he joined Andritz when Küsters was acquired by the Andritz Group. He currently works as Sales Manager for Paper and Board machines. Mark is the Vice Chairman of the Coating and Graphic Arts Division at TAPPI, a former Chair of the Calendering Committee and Calendering Common Interest Group; and former Chair for TAPPI Coating and Graphic Arts Division. He is also a frequent contributor as an instructor for TAPPI training courses, a presenter of papers and roundtables, and is the Technical Program Chair for two Finishing and Converting Conferences, as well as serving roles with other industry training and committees. COURSE CO-CHAIR JIM BELL - ALBANY INTERNATIONAL Email: jimbell@albint.com Module 4: Press Fabric Options and Benefits Jim is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BS in Chemical Engineering and a ME in Engineering Management. Jim has worked for Albany International's Press Fabric Applications team for over 20 years with a focus on improving safety, drying and press fabric life through design.

CLIVE BUTLER ACELLI Email: c.butler@acelli.it Module 12: Yankee Dryers- Safety, Steam, Condensate Systems Clive Butler started his career at Beloit Walmsley in 1988 shortly after graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Manchester Metropolitan University. In 1991, he became responsible for the design of Yankees, MGs & dryers for the whole of the Beloit group. Through Beloit and Sandusky he has had increasing responsibilities on a wider range of equipment on the paper machine until he became Engineering Manager at PMT Industries. Currently he is the Product manager for Yankee Dryers at A.Celli Paper responsible for all the technical and quality aspects of Yankee Dryers. He is an active member and former chair of the TAPPI Yankee Dryer Safety and Reliability Subcommittee and has authored several peer reviewed papers for the industry. JOHN NEUN - ENGINEERING CONSULTANT Email: john.neun@gmail.com Module 5: Clothing- Cleaning and Conditioning Best Practices John Neun is an engineering consultant who spent a substantial part of his career with Albany International. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York State. John has been a part of the paper industry since 1979, when he began work at Albany Felt Company. John has surveyed and analyzed many paper and tissue machines and determining means of improving their efficiency. In addition to overall system analysis, John has demonstrated particular expertise in vacuum systems, fabric cleaning systems, forming systems, and presses. He performs pulsation analyses and solves vibration problems in all sections of paper machines. John holds six U.S. patents and has published many technical papers (for TAPPI, ASME, SME, and the U.S. National Bureau of Standards). John is a TAPPI Fellow and is past Chairman of the Papermaker's Committee and Water Removal Committee as well as the Paper and Board Division. He has received the Leadership and Service Awards from both the TAPPI Engineering Division and Paper and Board Division.

JERRY KRAMER VALMET Email: jerry.kramer@valmet.com No Image Provided Module 8: Improving Dry End Performance Jerry graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a BSME degree and is a licensed Professional Engineer. He has worked extensively with calenders, reels, threading, web stabilization, rereelers and supercalenders in various positions with Beloit Corporation, Andritz and Valmet for the past 32 years. Jerry has been awarded five US patents and has authored, presented and published papers on reeling, web stabilization and waterjet technology for TAPPI, PAPTAC, SPCI, The Finnish Paper Engineers' Society and other technical organizations in the paper industry. He has also served on TAPPI committees and as a book reviewer for TAPPI on reeling and winding.
