POLYTECHNIC GRADUATES SAW HIGHER SALARIES IN 2015 Singapore, January 2016 The Graduate Employment Survey, jointly conducted by the five polytechnics in 2015, showed that polytechnic graduates in full-time permanent 1 employment earned higher gross monthly salaries in 2015 as compared to 2014. The 2015 Survey showed that polytechnic graduates continue to have healthy overall employment rates 2, similar to those who graduated in 2014. The overall employment rate in 2015 remained high at 88.9% for fresh graduates, and 91.5% for post-national Service (NS) graduates. 10,513 out of 13,945 fresh graduates took part in the 2015 survey, where they were asked to respond on their employment status as at 1 Oct 2015, around six months after the completion of their final examinations. 88.9% of the respondents who were in the labour force (i.e. those who are working and those who are not working but are actively looking and available for job) found employment within the first 6 months, compared to 89.2% in 2014. 57.9% of the respondents in the labour force secured full-time permanent employment, compared to 59.4% in 2014. 31.0% were in part-time/temporary employment, compared to 29.8% in 2014, with a majority doing so because they were pursuing or preparing to commence further studies (see Appendix I: Figure 1). The median gross monthly salary among respondents who were fresh graduates in full-time permanent employment was $2,100, up 5.0% from $2,000 in 2014 (see Appendix I: Figure 2). 4,876 out of 8,995 graduates from 2012 who had completed their full-time National Service between 1 Apr 2014 and 31 Mar 2015 also took part in the 2015 survey. As at 1 Oct 2015, 91.5% of the respondents who were in the labour force found employment, compared to 92.4% in 2014. 70.8% secured full-time permanent employment, compared to 73.0% in 2014. 20.7% were in part-time or temporary employment, compared 1 Full-time permanent employment refers to employment of at least 35 hours a week and where the employment is not temporary.
