Unique Art Style: Kathleen is a recognized professional artist with a unique style. When you commission artwork from Kathleen you will be commissioning a work that uses her individual skills, abilities, and techniques. Kathleen creates artwork that showcases beauty and elicits positive emotions. She may turn down a commission if your request is outside her style or subject matter. For example she has previously turned down a commission for a grim reaper painting. Kathleen does not specialize in dark imagery but prefers to use her talent for bringing joy and beauty to the world and to her clients. Artistic mediums like Paint and chalk have a life of their own. Kathleen flows with the movement and the life of the medium instead of attempting to force it into submission. This means that her artwork has elements of unpredictability to them. It may not be possible to create the Work exactly as described or as depicted in preliminary sketches, but Kathleen will create the work according to her style to the intent and the guidelines of the design. She will use her artistic knowledge and skill to make modifications as the work progresses to ensure that you are given an original and quality artwork. Process: The first step in the process to commissioning artwork from Kathleen is to set up your free consultation appointment. This can be a face-to-face meeting (preferred) or through skype or email. In your consultation we will discuss all the details of the work you would like created and begin the process for writing a contract. A contract will be written specifically for your commission. The signing of the completed contract along with receiving the deposit fee will be considered confirmation of your order. Until the contract is signed you have no obligation to continue with any further processes and can choose to not commission art. All other processes will be discussed in your consultation since each commission has many variables. 3
Deposit & Cancellation Policy: (The Fine Print) Unless otherwise specified, a deposit of 50% of the agreed fee is required upon confirmation of order. The remaining 50% of the agreed fee will be required when the artwork is complete and before pick up or delivery. In event of commission cancellation the initial deposit will be considered full and complete payment and is non-refundable. Kathleen Roling will retain ownership of the artwork. All sales are final. Payment: Payment is acceptable in cash or check. If the deposit is paid with check, work will not begin until 10-12 business days after check is deposited and cleared. If payment upon completion of work is paid with check, artwork will not be delivered, shipped, or picked up until 10-12 business days after check is deposited and cleared. Sale of Artwork: Sketches: Before the painting or drawing process begins I will create a rough sketch based on the details we discussed in your free consultation meeting. I will send you a photograph of the sketch through email. At this time you can let me know if you need any changes made to the design and I will take those concerns into account when I begin the artwork. If you would like additional revisions, every new sketch after this point will be an added fee of $10 per extra sketch. See Sketch process 4
Example Sketches: Shown here are two examples of sketches. They are of varying detail but they are of the same concept. Depending on your particular design you may receive a loose concept sketch or a more detailed sketch. Loose sketch Detailed Sketch Please Note: Sketches are only meant to give an idea of the concept for the final artwork. It is not an accurate depiction of the final outcome. The sketch loosely defines the colors and the composition of the final artwork plan. See Examples of Kathleen s Artistic Style 5
Sample of Kathleen s Work: Shown here are a few examples of Kathleen s art style. She works with vivid colors and expressive strokes. Kathleen has an impressionistic approach to details and textures. Peace in Solitude Peace in Solitude is a 9 x 12 Sidewalk chalk drawing. This is the final piece of the sketches shown above. In this case the drawing is only temporary but chalk artwork can be commissioned on a canvas as a permenent solution. Poised Poised is another example of vibrantly colored chalk art. 6
Night Under the Lights A Time Night Under the Lights is an oil painting created with a palette knife technique. If you are interested in commissioning a work with a similar texture, please specify that you would like a painting created with a palette knife technique. A Time is a watercolor painting on Rice paper. The technique creates a crinkled and textured surface all over the painting. The standard size for a rice paper painting is 12 x 18. If you would like a larger size we will work out a custom pricing for your commission after your consultation. Serenity Serenity is a watercolor painting on traditional watercolor paper. The textures you see are created with paint techniques. 7
