ORIGINAL MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE BY DAN ROMER & SAUL SIMON MACWILLIAMS
ABOUT CHASING CORAL From the Filmmakers Over three and a half years, our team set out on a mission to reveal an important story hidden beneath the waves. We went to far-reaching corners of the planet, working with divers, photographers, filmmakers and scientists, all to be able to document the impact that warming ocean waters are having on the world s coral reefs. The result: Chasing Coral a story sharing visual evidence of what is now acknowledged as the largest global coral bleaching event in history. We hope this is both a celebration of our ocean s beauty and an urgent wakeup call to citizens, scientists, businesses and policymakers. - Jeff Orlowski & Larissa Rhodes Wake Up the World Communities around the world are embracing the great transformation that Richard speaks of by transitioning to clean energy and reducing emissions. If we are going to give coral reefs and other ecosystems a chance we need to make this transition unstoppable. Whether you live near a coral reef or thousands of miles from the sea, slowing the warming of our oceans begins with making changes on land. We all can play an important role in revealing this story by hosting a Chasing Coral screening. It can be in your home, school, place of worship or with a local community group, wherever you feel you can bring new people into the conversation about our changing planet. There is still time for coral reefs, but no time to waste. Sign-up to host a screening and get resources to help speed the great transformation at: ChasingCoral.com This is inevitable, this great transformation, and that s what makes me so optimistic, is all we gotta do is give it a bit of a shove. - Richard Vevers from Chasing Coral

THE SOUNDS OF CORAL REEFS Image Richard Vevers
How do you give coral reefs a voice? Before scoring the film, Chasing Coral s composing duo Dan Romer and Saul Simon MacWilliams determined that audience members should feel sonically connected to the oceanic atmosphere. In an effort to replicate the sound of an underwater world, many of the instruments were recorded through an underwater microphone in Saul s hot tub. Dan and Saul initially developed a unique sound library and then orchestrated and recorded the score with this palette of sounds. First, Saul and Dan recorded cellos, guitars, wine glasses, and various instruments in the studio. Then they played back the recordings through an underwater speaker and re-recorded these sounds with the hydrophone. Other instruments, such as Saul s voice, the guitar, and the percussive elements were recorded live in their studio. These different elements and the co-composers approach contribute to a hauntingly beautiful and cohesive score. Tell Me How Long, the end credit song, was written by Dan Romer and Teddy Geiger. Prior to writing the song, Dan had a conversation with Chasing Coral s director, Jeff Orlowski, who expressed the concept of the coral screaming in color. These words made their way into the song and help drive the message that coral depletion is a detrimental loss to the ocean s ecosystem. To complete the track, Kristen Bell lent her beautiful and powerful voice for the song, amplifying the film s urgent message. Image Netflix / Chasing Coral / The Ocean Agency
