Better than sunglasses Filter sunglasses from Multilens
Why Filter Sunglasses and not ordinary sunglasses? Most sunglasses have been designed with one priority they should look trendy. Many manufacturers find that having to make them with UVA and UVB protection too is more of a necessary evil. Otherwise, they could not legally be called sunglasses! We think this is wrong. In our opinion, it s the optics and their benefit to the user that s most important. We are not satisfied with simply producing sun protection to conform to legal requirements we want to meet people s needs too. So it doesn t come as a surprise that we have been supplying light protection products for medical professionals for more than 25 years. For ordinary people, our high-tech sun protection is called Filter Sunglasses. The major difference between filter sunglasses and normal sunglasses is that Filter Sunglasses filter out unwanted light while sunglasses block out part of all light. You could say it s like comparing high-tech hearing protection, which filters out loud noises but allows you to hear other sounds (Filter Sunglasses), with hearing protection that dampens all sound (sun glasses). What s more, when you re wearing Filter Sunglasses, you can choose which light you want to filter out (in other words, choose which light is unpleasant noise ). And that s extremely important. Everyone has their own experience of what constitutes a nuisance. 2
What difference will Filter Sunglasses make for you? Better vision in all conditions Det The first thing you notice is that you can see better. Filtering out unwanted light only allows a greater amount of useful light to pass through to your eyes. This means that when you wear Filter Sunglasses, more light reaches your eyes (than when you wear normal sunglasses) and you don t experience any discomfort. As a result you will see better. To give you an illustration everything doesn t turn as black as night when you drive into a tunnel. Even better vision when you need it You choose filter lenses for your Filter Sunglasses, depending on when you re going to use them. If contrast is important, for example when you re skiing, a certain part of the light must be allowed to pass through. When you re driving, it s important with a different part of the light. Glare reduction Al All our Filter Sunglasses include a standard polarizing layer, which reduces bothersome glare and reflections. However, if you for some reasons don t want to eliminate glare you can of course choose non-polarized filter lenses. Once again, it s all about choosing which noise you want to block out! Optics according to requirements Our 25 years of working with optics, light, filters and eyes have equipped us with an in-depth understanding of how different people have different needs when it comes to optics. That s why all of our Filter Sunglasses are available in three classes, depending on visual sensitivity and requirements. 3
When you choose ML Filter Biocover, you make an environmental statement too. The plastic in the frame is manufactured from castor oil instead of fossil oil, which is normally used. Moreover, you ll be choosing a superior quality product in terms of both optics and the quality of material and design. In fact, we are so confident in the quality that each one of our ML Filter Biocover products carries a lifetime warranty*. ML Filter Biocover comes with optics designed for three different levels of visual sensitivity. The higher the level, the more sensitive the eyes or the more extreme the situation in which they are to be used. Select the level that best suits your eyes and needs! Visual sensitivity level 1 This is the level to choose if you have normal vision but want slightly better optics than normal sunglasses can offer. The polarizing layer effectively eliminates reflections and glare. You have a choice of three different filters: Pol G, Pol B and Pol Y. Pol G is a dark/black filter lens that absorbs all light to more or less the same degree. It is a suitable choice if you spend most of your time in non-light-intensive environments, such as urban areas. Pol B lenses have a bronze tint. They filter out a large percentage of the blue and blue-green light. Suitable in very bright conditions, such as on the beach or in the mountains. Pol Y is dark yellow and blocks off most of the blue light. The filter lens enhances contrast and is ideal whenever light conditions are more challenging, for instance when fishing or cycling. 4 * Lifetime warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. Scratched lenses are not covered under warranty. See the information leaflet provided with the product for more details.
as you want them Visual sensitivity level 2 If you require greater protection from the sun or if you are bothered more than usual by sunlight, then level 2 is ideal for you. Filter lenses at this level are very efficient at filtering light under certain wavelengths, removing the uncomfortable, high-energy blue light to various degrees. When it s important that the light is very comfortable on your eyes, level 2 is the right choice for you. The filter lenses at this level are available with three different filters: C1Pol1, 500Pol1 and 527Pol1. C1Pol1 is a yellow-grey filter lens that suppresses parts of the blue light. An all-round filter lens that is suitable for most situations. 500Pol1 is an orange-gray filter lens that blocks more of the blue light to provide improved contrast. Extremely suitable for sports, driving, sailing and similar activities. 527Pol1 is a dark orange-grey filter lens which is highly effective at blocking the blue light. Suitable for eyes that easily become tired from exposure to bright sunlight. Visual sensitivity level 3 Level 3 is for those who are only satisfied with the best. The superior quality optics and the huge variety of options make it possible to find lenses that are exactly right for you. We have developed a range of the filter lenses that usually suit most people. However, if there s nothing that suits you, talk to your optician. He or she will be able to help you order ML Filter Biocover with a different filter lens. Furthermore, all level 3 filter lenses have ML Prima Sun anti-reflective coating. ML Prima Sun coating provides enhanced comfort by removing reflections from your face in the filter lens. The standard filter lenses at level 3 are available with the same filter as level 2 with the addition of ML Prima Sun (PS): C1Pol1PS, 500Pol1PS and 527Pol1PS. 5

Technical specifications and lens comparison guide Different lens materials Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (CAB) The most common material used in cheaper sunglasses frames. Injection moulded CAB is just 0.6 to 0.8 mm thick which means sunglasses easily lose their optical stability and form. We do not use this material in any of our Filter Sunglasses. Tri-Acetate Cellulose (TAC) used for visual sensitivity level 1 (VS1) Injection moulded filter lens of better quality than CAB. Average thickness of 1.1 mm ensures good, stable optical performance. Polyamide (PM) used for visual sensitivity level 2 (VS2) Moulded filter lens that provides the next level of optical quality. Average thickness 2.0 mm. Scratch-resistant coating. CR39 used for visual sensitivity level 3 (VS3) Optically polished filter lens with the same superior optical quality as corrective optics. Average thickness 2.2 mm. Our CR39 filter lens is hard coated on both sides and has high-quality anti-reflective coating, ML Prima Sun, on the inside surface. Properties of our lenses Explanations of the categories. Absorption: The amount of visible light absorbed by the filter lens. Class: Classification of the filter lens absorption. The classification uses a scale of 0 to 4 where 4 represents greatest absorption. Degree of pol: Degree of polarization. The amount of horizontal light absorbed by the filter lens. Car: Whether you are allowed to drive a car when wearing the filter lens. The colour of the filter lens can affect the brain s ability to recognise the colours of traffic lights. ML Prima SUN: Anti-reflective coating that reduces reflections on the inside of the lens. 8

Relevant facts about light, optics and eyes What is a polarizing lens? Unlike direct light, light waves that are reflected, for example, on the surface of water only oscillate in one direction. A polarizing lens, which is made of a film with very thin lines, filters out these reflective light waves. The result is a cleaner image with enhanced contrast and comfort. Why is it important to filter blue light? It is a well-known fact that the intense short-wave ultraviolet light can have a damaging effect on the retina. Blue light also has an intense, short wavelength, which causes damage after prolonged exposure and is also the part of the visible light spectrum to which our eyes are most sensitive! Our solution to provide better protection, enhanced contrast and improved comfort is first and foremost to filter away this blue light in combination with polarization! What is meant when it says that a lens must not be worn when driving? The ISO EN 1836:2005 standard requires information to be provided as to whether the filter is suitable for use behind the steering wheel. This is based on the ability to see colours, for example the colours of traffic lights. However, it does not take into account better vision due to reduced glare or increased visual acuity. Absorption category what does that mean? Under the requirements of the ISO EN 1836:2005 standard, manufacturers must state the filter s absorption category. It should be noted that this standard only relates to how much light is blocked out and not which light is blocked out! Multilens filter lenses in categories 2 and 3 provide the greatest possible protection. 10
