Christmas Wall Hanging Use the Designer s Gallery Creator digitizing program to create the appliquéd gift design in the center of the wall hanging. Then get your sewing and embroidery machine out to stitch up this wall decoration that will make Christmas the most wonderful time of the year. Supplies: Designer s Gallery Creator Digitizing Program Baby Lock sewing and Embroidery machine Bow artwork (included) Holiday print fat quarter bundle 1 Yard of Holiday print fabric for the sashing and backing Solid cream colored fabric Batting Instructions At the Computer: 1. Download the bow image to a location of your choice. 2. Open the program by clicking on the Designer s Gallery icon on the desktop. 3. The Creator digitizing program works within Designer s Gallery Everyday. Click on the digitizing icon on the top toolbar and follow the next set of steps: 4. To create the box portion of the design, click on the Merge Design icon on the top toolbar and follow the next set of steps: Select the Designer s Gallery Outlines from the catalog menu. Select the Trapezoid shape as shown below and click OK. Rotate the trapizoid image 90. Resize the shape, by pulling outward on the selection handles, so that the top of the shape measures approximately 6 across, the bottom measures 4 across and the sides are 5 tall (as shown below). {Designer s Gallery} Christmas Wall Hanging Page 2
6 5 4 Place the trapizoid shape towards the bottom of the hoop. 5. Click on the Image icon on the top toolbar and follow the next set of steps: Select the bow image from the saved location. Click on the selection handles and drag outward to make the bow large enough to fit over the trapezoid shape. The bottom of the bow should be even with the bottom edge on the trapezoid shape. Select Draw with Points icon. Place points around the bow shape, starting with the right side of the bow, placing points around the shape and ending at the opposite side at the center (as shown in the illustration below). {Designer s Gallery} Christmas Wall Hanging Page 3
Draw the opposite side of the bow. Draw the tail on the left side leaving the section open as in the other sections. Draw the tail on the right side. Draw the long portion of the bow that wraps around the box. Draw the center oval shape last. Under the Objects field, there will be eight areas shown. The second area is the image of the bow and will not stitch. 6. To apply the appliqué fill to the shapes follow the next set of steps. Select the trapezoid shape. Select the Appliqué Fill icon from the Stitch field as shown below. Under the Properties place a check mark in the Fabric Preview, Position and Material fields (as shown below). This will give you three color stops. Under the Border field select Satin. {Designer s Gallery} Christmas Wall Hanging Page 4
Repeat for the other shapes in the design. 7. Click on File Save as a Working and Stitch file. This will save two versions of the design: one to stitch and one as a working file that can be used later to make adjustments if needed. Give the design the name christmaspresent and save to a location of your choice. The finished design should look similar to the following picture. Sewing: 1. Cut one 18 square section from the cream colored fabric for embroidery. 2. Hoop the stabilizer and the 18 cream colored square in the 200mm x 200mm hoop. 3. Embroider the appliqué design. Apply the appliqué fabric after the placement stitch has been embroidered for both of the sections. (Trapezoid and bow areas.) 4. Trim the appliquéd section to 13 ½ square. 5. Using the fat quarters, cut several 2 ½ wide strips across the width of the fabric. 6. Sew eight strips together along the long edges using random prints. 7. Cut 2 ½ wide sections across the sewn strips. 8. Sew four sections together to be placed under the appliquéd section and then another section with two rows sewn together. This will be sewn above the appliquéd section. 9. Piece the sections to the top and bottom edge of the center square. Trim the edges. 10. Cut four print sections 3 wide across the width of the fabric for the sashing. 11. Sew the sashing to the sides and then to the top and bottom edges. Trim as needed to even the edges. 12. Make a sandwich with the backing, batting and quilted sections. Quilt the layers together as desired. 13. Bind the quilt. {Designer s Gallery} Christmas Wall Hanging Page 5
