Optical Passive Components Prisma DWDM Passives Description Competitive pressures and rapidly acceleratg user demand for teractive services are forcg cable operators to upgrade their network architectures. These changes are pushg optical fiber deeper to the network. But simply replacg existg transmission les with fiber is no longer the most costeffective means to handle creasg bandwidth requirements. Operators are now takg advantage of advancements optical filterg that have made it possible to significantly crease the number of signals (or wavelengths) that can be carried on a sgle fiber - a process known as Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexg (DWDM). Prisma multiplexer and demultiplexer (mux/demux) components are essential elements for implementg DWDM to crease network efficiency by significantly reducg fiber counts. Most units are available the dustry recognized, LGX-compatible form factor to allow easy, snap- mountg a variety of enclosures and cabets. The LGX modules can be used the same chassis as coupler/splitters and patchg modules to achieve highdensity rack configurations. The Prisma mux/demux components are also optimized to achieve low sertion loss at all wavelengths. The 0 channel wavelength parts are packaged standard 1 or 2 RU closures that mount any standard 19-ch equipment rack.
