CELLULES STEP II CEP14/15 Communication by power line carrier technology For medium voltage networks

STEP II - System Presentation Developped for networks 120 V 6,600 Volts including French standards 950 V - 3,200-5,500 V & the north american ones 600 V & 4,160 V. STEP II system allows the remote control and monitoring of equipments installed on a MV network from Augier or equivalent. AUGIER is the specialist of the power carrier line technology on MV networks (< 7.2 kv) Airports, motorways, large industrial sites, Existing sites in Europe and Middle East. A range of internal and external coupling modules for transformers on MV networks, in order to avoid the communication attenuation inside the magnetic cores. The system, built around an Augier-Master module and several Augier-Slave modules, allows the remote control of low voltage contactors through a MV network with a permanent power supply. It also transfer a serial communication from PLCs through an integrated RS485 port. The substation Augier-Master module controls all field Augier-Slave modulesfrom logical inputs (contact free of voltage from a photocell, an astronomic clock, ) or from a monitoring system. ADVANTAGES : Reliable, the system built around Augier-Master & Augier- Slave modules benefits of all Augier experiances during several years in road lighting, long distance networks, energy cost savings and airport ground lighting systems. Compact and easy to install, the box (6 units large) has to be installed on a DIN standard rail. Its pluggable connectors help for an easy installation and maintenance. The Bluetooth communication allows the configuration and maintenance actions from the PC without physical connection with the selected Augier-Master or Augier-Slave module. Versatile, its different inputs / outputs can meet the main needs. Communicating, its RS485 serial port can communicate with a remote control system at several kilometers from the monitoring system of the substation. 2

APPLICATIONS : The system built with an Augier-Master module and several Augier-Slave modules can manage the monitoring and the control of electrical distribution installations including the outdoor lighting, alone or mixed with permanent receiver, mainly for sites where maintenance actions are difficult such as highways, tunnels, bridges, city access roads, interchanges and railway tunnels. The STEP II system also provides control activation and disactivation of the lighting or other equipment on MV networks continously energized such as traffic lights, emergency telephones, variable messages signs and other receivers, motors, etc... It provides the control of the switching on and off of the lights through low voltage contactors controlled by the Augier Slave modules. The STEP II system also provides remote control of equipment such as a PLC unit, modules with Input/Output logical contacts (free of voltage), or anyother device with a RS485 port. PRINCIPLE SCHEME : Local station Distribution network MV network Supply 120 V - 240 V Autonomous control or supervision Control and/or supervision of LV contactors Equipment piloting Measures : Current tensions Supervision : SEVERAL EXAMPLES : For outdoor road lighting, highways and tunnels : Activation of lighting on «Augier MV» network with permanent power supply because of connection with video cameras or other signs systems and/or monitoring system. Control of 1 lamp on 2, to increase the time life of lamps. Control of the cost saving voltages of the Augier Compacto dimmers (or equivalent). For the distant consumers in industrial site (pumps, electrical engines, ): Sending control command (logical information or serial communication), Collecting the information on states and alarms. For the «Oil & Gas» industry: Monitor informations and alarms from the instrumentation of gas and oil piplines, in case of a faulty communication network (optic fibre cut, ). Control of various pumps and engines at the wellheads site and feedbacks. For the Mining industry: Securing state feedback and alarm through the power cable. 3

The MV network can be composed up to 255 departures, each departure has the possibility to have 255 derivations. 133 khz communication frequency, injection on A and B phases in the case of a three-phase network. Operating temperature fom 20 C to +55 C (-40 C on request). Communication speed at the panel : 140 ms / module. For a 10 kilometers network equipped with a network transformer every 300 meters, the communication time will be about 4.3 seconds. 255 modules maximum from the module station Addressing of modules Module address : 1 to 225 0 to 225 0 to 225 0 to 225 0 to 225 1 to 225 Symbolic address : Derivation address Physical address : 4

STEP II - Setting - Supervision For each project, in standard, the CPL application setting software is furnished. This software enables to : Create a data base. Save or modify the data base after network modification. Directly communicate via Bluetooth from a PC, with AUGIER-slave modules. Transfer the data base on the AUGIER-Master or AUGIER-Slave module. Conduct orders or unitary diagnostics. Conduct group orders. Conduct a polling, meaning visualize the state of the different modules (optional, measurement of low voltage, of intensity and power on phase 1) Optional, the STEP II software - Supervision will comprise the interfacing Jbus RS485 to do the network material supervision. It will be possible, from the supervision station PC, to check : The good communication of the modules. The presence or the single-phase voltage value downstream from the network transformers. The single-phase energy measurement with the intensity, the power and cos phi. The state of the materials such as the LV circuit-breaker position, the position of contactors. Possibility to check up to 8 informations (dry contact free of voltage) or equipement (PLC) via the serial link RS485. The voltage on the three phases, the current, the active and reactive power, for road lighting applications, via an additional module to the AUGIER-Slave one. Or conduct distant command orders. 5

AUGIER-Master and AUGIER-Slave Modules THE AUGIER-Master AND AUGIER-Slave INTEGRATE : A power carrier emitter / receiver adapted to MV networks. 2 dry contact outputs allowing to control 2 independent contactors (associated with 2 logical groups for each contact). 8 dry contact inputs allowing the master unit to send group commands (up to 255 groups) and to the field unit, the status feedback of the circuit-breaker, contactors... 1 communication port RS485. 1 communication port CAN. 1 voltage network measurement input (for instance, voltage measurement at the contactor output). 1 optional «current transformer» input for the current measurrement that associated to the voltage measurement, enables the calculation of the reactive and active power and the load power factor. 10 state display allowing simplified installation and maintenance. A Bluetooth communication port for configuration and testing. OPERATION : An AUGIER-Slave module can control 2 contactors designed for 2 different groups (255 groups maximum ). Analogical measure inputs enable to conduct a power measurement (real load status feedback). 8 logical inputs (free voltage contact) to take status and alarms back. The AUGIER-Slave module operates on star networks architectures with 1 or 2 derivation sub levels. The AUGIER-Slave module «n» is capable of communicating with the «n + 2» module, if the «n + 1» module does not communicate anymore. Modules operate for nominal power between 120 and 240V. The AUGIER-Slave module can control and command an equipment with an RS485 (or CAN Bus link). For example : Could send 1 to 4 lines with 16 alphanumeric to variable message signs. COMMUNICATIONS : The AUGIER-Slave and AUGIER-Master modules communicate with carrying power online, the AUGIER STEP II technology adapted to the distribution networks enables to transmit through long distances (several kilometers). INSTALLATION : The AUGIER-Master module is installed ina low voltage cabinet, next to the MV cells. LV cabinet, IP 67, equipped with an AUGIER-Slave module and two LV contactors The AUGIER-Slave modules are installed in a watertight cabinet, IP67, next to network transformers. 6
