Total Optical Encoder Error is the algebraic sum of Instrument Error+Quadrature Error+InterpolationError.Typically, theseerror sources sumtoa valueless than thetheoretical maximum.error is guaranteedat20 C andis defined atthe signal transitions.itdoes notincludequantizationerror, which is ±1/2quantum.("Quantum" is the final resolutionoftheencoder, after user's 1x,2x or 4Xquadrature decode. ) 2. InstrumentError is thesumofdisc patternerrors, disc eccentricity, bearing runoutand other mechanical imperfections withintheencoder.this error tends tovary slowly around arevolution. 3. Quadrature Error is thecombinedeffect ofphasingandduty cycle tolerances andother variables in thebasic analog signals. This errorappliestodata taken atall four transitions within acycle;ifdata are extracted from 1Xsquarewaves ona1xbasis(i.e.,atonlyonetransition per cycle),this errorcan be ignored. GURLEYPRECISIONINSTRUMENTS THEENCODERLEDER EXTENDED RESOLUTION The series 82 offers resolution up to 192,000 counts/rev(6.7arcsec/count)after4x quadratureedgedetection. Iffinerresolutionis required (up to 480,000 counts/rev, or 2.7 arcsec/count), the HR2 external electronics package provides awide range of options that ensures compatibility with virtually all commercially available counter circuits, dedicated encoder interface cards and programmablelogiccontrollers: ny numberof quadraturesquare waves from1to 20 times the line count on thedisc Fixed-durationpulses at 1,2or4timesany integerfrom 1to20 choice of / or PULSE/ DIRECTIONoutput pulse format zero-index (reference)signal in either gated ½cycle, gated¼cycle, orfixed duration pulse format EI/RS-422 oropen collectorlinedrivers On-board low-dropout voltageregulator Refertothe HR2datasheet forfull details. SERIES 82P The series 82P is identical to the Series 82S, except that it incorporates a precision-hobbedpinionasanintegralpartofthe encoder shaft; this improves accuracy by eliminating eccentricity and other errors that result from attaching aseparate pinion. The pinion shaft is made from hardened 416 stainless steel to minimize wear. The pinion mates with a 10-tooth-per-inch rack, and traverses exactly one inch per revolution. n optional flex-mount bracket keeps the pinion spring-loaded into the rack to virtually eliminate backlash. The salient benefits of arack-and - pinion system include good tolerance to misalignments, virtually unlimited measuring length, high resolution, long life and relative insensitivity to contamination. Please refer to the Rack-and-Pinion data sheet for system specifications.
