BIOGRAPHY: The Greater Kansas City Art Association is a non-profit organization that has actively promoted the appreciation of visual arts in the Kansas City area for many years by providing art exhibits, etc., to the public. It was founded in 1952 by a group of local artists with the idea of bringing together as many of those local artists as possible to promote an exchange of thoughts and techniques and to be able to approach the public as a unified group of professionals. The Association meets every month on the second Monday of the month and at every meeting there is a guest demonstrator in some facet of the arts. The Association presents two semi-annual shows each year at the Metcalf South Shopping Center in Overland Park. There are over two hundred artists in the Association who work in all media such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, batik, and sculpture. Many of the members are award winning artists with National reputations. GKCAA wants to share with the public the enjoyment and excitement of the visual arts in this region. The services and activities of GKCAA are available to all persons regardless of race, color, creed, ethnic background or religious affiliation.
