(See HANDLE and HANDING Instructions) Tools Reguired: Tape Measure #1 Philips Screwdriver Drill 3/32" Drill Bit Scissors BacTrac door includes: Instructions Bug Seal Optional 1/4" Latch Strike w/ (2)- #6 x 3/4" Sheet Metal Screws Strike Spacer Retractor Clip w/ (1) -#4 x 3/4" Sheet Metal Screw Top Channel & Bottom Rail System Determine the type of door mounting system you have by referring to the illustrations Top & Bottom Rail System A Top Channel A - TOP CHANNEL & BOTTOM RAIL SYSTEM, allows door to slide within a top channel and on a bottom rail. B Top Rail B - TOP & BOTTOM RAIL SYSTEM allows door to slide using rollers on rails. Glass Patio Bottom Rail Your door should have similar rails at both top and bottom. Clean and remove debris from track system to insure proper operation of BacTrac door Glass Patio Bottom Rail Standard Height The BacTrac Auto-Close Screen can be mounted in doorways from 77-1/4" to 80-1/4" in height. There is 1-1/2" of adjustment in each of the top or bottom adjustment channels. Test fit your door into the existing track and determine the amount of adjustment you will need to give your door a good fit without creating too much tension on the frame or rollers. If your door height exceeds 80-1/4", you will NOT be able to use the BacTrac door.
Height Adjustment C Lock Down Bar Insure the LOCK DOWN BAR is loosened on both sides of the door before attempting to adjust the door height. The height adjustment should be made to allow the door to move freely across the ENTIRE DOOR OPENING, but prevent the door from "tipping" on any one side. Step 1. - The BacTrac Auto-Close Screen comes with a LOCK DOWN BAR on each corner of the door. Before attempting to mount door, insure screws are loosened and the lock down bar can move freely up or down. (see C) Step 2. - Place door in door frame and determine how much the door will need to be adjusted for a proper fit. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver through slot of lock down bar, raise (clockwise) or lower (counter-clockwise) the frame extension to the proper height. This procedure will need to be duplicated AT ALL FOUR CORNERS of the door. (see D) Step 3. - Many patio door openings are not entirely even along the width, making it necessary to adjust the BacTrac door using the height adjustment screws. Adjust the door to the SHORTEST height of the opening to insure free movement along the area of travel. IMPORTANT - After door is adjusted properly, securely tighten all four lock down bar screws. Adjust door height to make it fit as tightly in the frame as possible WITHOUT BIND- ING. If the door fits too loosely, the retracting mechanism will pull the door off the track and cause the door to derail. (See - RETRACTOR INSTALLATION) D Height Adjustment Screw Height adjustment is made using a #1 Phillips screwdriver. Adjustments should be made at all four corners of the door. Too much gap at the top of the door will cause the bottom of the door to rise off the track and derail. Handle & Handing Instructions 1 2 3 3a 3b Locking Device "Marked" Prongs Exterior Interior Important note: If your door latches on the right (when viewed outside looking in) follow directions below. Step 1. - Remove lock mechanism from door. Step 2. - Make sure locking device is in the unlocked position so latch slides freely. Step 3. - Switch the interior and exterior handles to move the locking device to the interior side of the door. Align the exterior pull to the interior pull by engaging the "marked" prongs on both pulls. Secure with one handle screw and check for easy latch operation before securing with second fastener. (Note: Locking device will now be at the top of the handle 3a & 3b)
Instructions for Flush Mount Handle If the factory installed handles interfere with your particular doorjamb, you can use our Interior Flush Mounted option. 1 2 3 Spring Latch 5 Rectangle Hole Lock mechanism Handle Grip Spacer 4 5a Optional 1/4" Latch Shown Step 1. - Remove lock mechanism from door. Step 2. - Remove handle grip spacers. Step 3. - Remove spring off latch. Step 4. - Remove latch by pinching plastic prongs and lifting latch. Step 5. - Replace 1/8" latch with optional 1/4" offset included with door and position the rectangle hole over the marked plastic prongs. Note: The actual catch on the latch should be positioned as shown (5a). Note: You will need to support the finger pull slide portion while pressing the latch onto the prongs. Step 7. - Slide spring onto the latch spring post. 8 9 Exterior Step 8. - Place (2) handle grip spacers under the exterior pull. You must use both handle grip spacers. Step 9. - Insert latch and interior pull into door frame.

Step 11. - Secure with one handle screw and check for easy latch operation before securing with second fastener. Retractor Installation Step 1. - The RETRACTOR CLIP must be mounted in the upper most portion of the door frame opening on the jamb. (See E) FOR METAL FRAME DOOR OPENINGS - Pre-Drill a 3/32" hole approximately 1-1/2" below the upper most portion of the door frame and secure with #4 x 3/4" screw provided. 1-1/2" Jamb E FOR VINYL FRAME DOOR OPENINGS - DO NOT PRE-DRILL! The self-tapping screw will pierce the vinyl adequately. - DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! Overtightening will strip the screw or the mounting hole. WARNING! - Installing the RETRACTOR CLIP too low will cause door to derail and door will not close properly. Attaching the Retractor to the Jamb F G H Nylon Tab Retractor Cord Step 1. - At the top of the BacTrac door is a small, white, nylon tab with a retractor cord attached. This cord will have tension on it when pulled from the door. this tab, with cord attached, from door and connect it behind the RETRACTOR CLIP. (See F, G, H, & I) NOTE: Cord will have tension when pulled from the door. This connection will cause the door to close. Increasing or decreasing the tension with closing speed adjustment screw (See J) will set the door for quicker or slower closing.
Closing Speed Adjustment J After the BacTrac door has been installed for height and the retractor cord has been connected on the door jamb, check the door's closing speed. If the factory pre-set closing speed is too fast or too slow for your application, you can use the closing speed adjustment screw located within the door as shown in "J". Step 1. - Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, turn screw CLOCKWISE to SLOW closing speed OR COUNTERCLOCKWISE to INCREASE closing speed. It may take 30 or 40 turns to make a notable difference in the door speed. NOTE: It is strongly advised to clean and remove debris from track system to insure proper operation of the BacTrac. Regular maintenance and track lubrication is recommended. Bug Seal Installation* K NOTE: If the bug seal drags across the glass patio door, the BacTrac door may not close properly. L M Step 1. - Install bug seal on the back edge of screen door with wide flap next to the glass patio door by pushing the barbed end into door channel. (See K) Step 2. - Trim bug seal using scissors to cut at the appropriate "tear" strip location that places the flap close, but not touching the glass patio door. (See L) Step 3. - Once the tear strip is started, simply pull along the tear strip to remove. (See M) * The bug seal prevents insects from entering the home from the backside of sliding door.
