The Purpose and Mission of The Tribe of The Whitetop Band of Native Indians is to protect and enhance the quality of the lives of all members. To protect the culture and traditions of our Native Americans. To teach our young people the history of our families and the history of the Native American People. To respect the burial sites of our ancestors that have gone before us and the future generations to come. To confront ongoing environmental issues that have plagued our nation as a whole and the health of Mother Earth and the importance of her continued survival. To elect our own leaders, to teach our children the importance of education and self-reliance. To care for our elderly and our young. To assist and serve our communities and country. Instructions to Apply for Tribal Membership Please read the entire page for important information regarding the application requirements Any applicant for membership in The Tribe of The Whitetop Band of Native Indians must be a citizen of the United States of America. Full Members of The Tribe of The Whitetop Band of Native Indians are those who have Proven Native American ancestry by genealogical records established by Y-DNA or Mt- DNA. Full Membership are direct parental lineage descendants of the Sizemore family. Members are those who have Proven ancestry by genealogical records without Y-DNA or Mt-DNA and are of direct parental lineage descendants of the Sizemore family. Adopted Members are spouses or children or immediate family of a Full Members, or Member level members. Associate Members must show Native American DNA AND have official documents, linking to a proven Native American ancestor. Personal Documents/Records Required to Process Application 1. A copy of your Certified Birth Certificate ***AND Proof of Birth for each ancestral link/person to your proven Native American Ancestor (may submit other Official Documents for ancestors, as noted below) 2. A copy of your State Issued ID or Driver's License ***AND (additionally to Birth Certificate) Official Document(s) for verification of each ancestral link/person to your proven Native American Ancestor (may submit other Official Documents for ancestors, as noted below) 3. Please use the attached Genealogy Form to show pedigree. In addition to that form, you may submit a copy or printed screenshot of your genealogical family tree/pedigree showing you and each link/person, up to and including, your proven direct Ancestor. 4. If you are using DNA to prove your Native American heritage you will need to submit your personal DNA documents with your application. In addition to this, you may include a copy or printed screen-shot of your estimated percent (%) of Native American DNA. We urge you to have your DNA tested. It is the most reliable source for proof of Native American Heritage, available. The attached page has a list of Acceptable Forms of Documentation please make unedited copies to send with your application, as records cannot be returned.
Acceptable Forms of Documentation (unedited copies are acceptable) Notarized Birth Certificate or Other Official Statement of Birth Verifiable Record State Issued Identification or Driver's License Official Military Record U.S. Census ECA for Native Americans or other Eastern United States' Recognized Tribes Proof of Enrollment on one of the many Federally Recognized Indian Rolls Census Officially Filed Death Certificate or Record Photograph of Headstone, with clear and legible engraving Old Family Bible Record Pages **Questions regarding "official" or acceptable documents, please contact us at your earliest convenience** **Upon notification of application approval, you may request a Whitetop Tribe Certificate of Membership be emailed to you, so you can print it out. Also, you may request a Whitetop Membership ID Card at a cost is $5.00. There are no other required fees nor financial benefits associated with any level of membership in The Tribe of the Whitetop Band of Native Indians.
