CLASSES FOR KIDS TODDLER AND PRESCHOOL Creative Art Exploration for Tots Instructor: Erin Maten Younger children (ages 22 months - 3.5 years) and their parent/caregiver will explore creative thinking and expression using paper, paint, clay and more! Projects designed to develop fine motor skills and enhance creative development. CLASSES FOR KIDS ELEMENTARY- HIGH SCHOOL Creative Kids Papier-mâché Come explore 3D art! Using the power of your imagination, kids ages 7-10 years will create a unique piece of handmade art that will bring whimsy and life to their household. Create a fantastical beast or a realistic pet that you can paint, decorate with household objects, and take home! Session 2: Feb 26 - Mar 18 Kids Exploring Art: Dale Chihuly Dale Chihuly is known for his glass installations, from grand ballrooms to gardens; Chihuly glass is a whimsical and beautiful art form that combines architecture and nature. In this class, students ages 8-13 years old will learn about the artist, his techniques, inspiration, and background while recreating some of his classic glass designs using mixed media. Wednesdays 4:30-6:00 p.m.; 3 weeks; (M) $42; (NM) $46 Session 2: Feb 24 - Mar 9 Creative Kids Drawing and Painting Instructor: Maria Latour Kids ages 8-12: Learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting and composition while exploring various subject matter including landscape, still life, nature and dream imagery. Media explored include: pencil, charcoal, pastels, water color and acrylic paint on canvas. Students will learn about watercolor paper, tools, paints and techniques. Watercolor skills taught in the class will be used to create several new and completed projects. Learn the various fun ways acrylic paint can be used. We will paint a variety of two and three-dimensional subjects. Session 1: Jan 12 - Feb 16 Creative Kids Draw What You See This class is designed to teach children ages 10-15 years to work in a studio setting drawing from seen objects. New drawing materials, papers, techniques, vocabulary and perspective will be introduced. Children will help create the still lives in the studio to teach them composition and design. WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS AND YOUNG ADULTS WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS Creative Kids 2nd Saturdays The joy of creative thinking and self-expression are brought to life in this popular once-a-month class for kids ages 5-12 years. Learn art history while creating projects via drawing, painting, sculpture and mixedmedia. Each class offers unique scheduled activities in conjunction with the current professional exhibit on display in the Art House Gallery, so attend more than once! Parent and Child Class Instructor: Maria Latour Bring your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, neighbor, or friend ages 6-12 years old and share in the creation of a masterpiece! Workshops are for one adult with one or two children. Share the experience of working on an art project together. Each class will be unique, so attend more than once! Fairy Door Workshop Kids ages 5-8 years: Make your own fairy door to take home in this two day workshop. Get creative with found objects in nature and use paints and glue to help you create and finish your own fairy door just like the ones in Downtown Northville! Fairy Doors in Clay Workshop Instructor: Maria Latour This three week workshop offers a different spin on our classic Fairy Door class for kids 8-12 years. Design and create a fanciful fairy door with clay and colorful paints, and even add a troll, fairy or dragon on the door! DIY Lip Balms, Gloss, and Butters Instructor: Sharon Czekala Any student age 16 and under must take the class with an adult for supervision. Ages 10 and up: Learn to make your own yummy, natural lip balms, glosses, and butters, using vegetable oils, waxes, colors, and flavors. Pop Art Collage Workshop Ages 10-15: Learn how to transform a plain canvas into a unique one of a kind piece of art that you ll get to take home with you. Using simple shapes and pop dots for depth, you ll be using paper and paint to make a canvas that is 100% you. Hearts, Cards, and Letters Workshop Ages 13 and up: Personalize all your Valentine s gifts and cards with calligraphy and creative lettering. Watercolor paints, markers, and colored pencils will be available to add to your creativity! DIY Fizzing Bath Bombs Instructor: Sharon Czekala Any student age 16 and under must take the class with an adult for supervision. Ages 8 and up: Have fun in the tub with these skinfriendly bubbly treats. We will use natural ingredients and your choice of colors and fragrances to make these delightful fizzing bath bombs- just like you can buy at LUSH! First we will make our very own bubble wand using wire, then we will embellish them with beads, ribbons and sparkles to make each one unique. Next we will make our own bubble solution and then the best part - we will go outside and blow bubbles with our works of art! MIDWINTER AND SPRING BREAK PROGRAMS MIDWINTER BREAK Valentine s Day Fairy Door Workshop Kids ages 5-12 years: Make your own Valentine s Day themed fairy door to take home in this two day workshop. Get creative with found objects in nature and use paints and glue to help you create and finish your own fairy door just like the ones in Downtown Northville! SPRING BREAK Thumbprint Art Kids ages 3-5 years: Learn how to use your fingers to paint wild animals and beautiful flowers in this two week class. Be prepared to get a little messy! Creative Jewelry Making Instructor: Maria Latour Kids ages 9-12 years: Make one of a kind bracelets and necklaces using wire, leather, stretch cord with glass, acrylic, and semi-precious stone beads. Workshop Instructor: Maria Latour Have you ever dreamed of showing at Fashion Week? Love to create new and unique clothing designs? Learn how to make a whole collection of your own! CLASSES FOR TEENS AND ADULTS DRAWING Adult Drop In Studio Drop-In the Art House for camaraderie and encouragement while working on your own project. No instruction is provided, but fellowship is encouraged. For those who wish, still life set-ups provided to inspire creativity. 2nd Fridays of the month; 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.; (M) and (NM) $10 per date. No pre-registration required. Beginning Drawing Explore the adventure of drawing. Expand on simple shapes and techniques to explore perspective, shading, texture, values, composition and more. The class will use pencil, charcoal, ebony, colored pencils, pens and much more. New and different papers will be used to further your creativity. All three sessions are ongoing with new mediums and techniques introduced with each session. Session 1: Jan 14 - Feb 18 Session 2: Feb 25 - Apr 7 (no class Mar 31) Session 3: Apr 14 - May 19 Beginning Colored Pencil- Animal Portraits Instructor: Marchelle Brotz This class will include step by step demonstrations of different techniques and time for students to work on their drawings. The instructor will provide a sketch, reference materials and printed notes on techniques and color. Colored pencils can be purchased separately or you can bring your own. An email will be sent out before class with the colors needed.
