Family Portraits Family Portraits Executive Conference Meeting Room We are fortunate to once again have Amanda Clark shooting professional portraits and group photos during our conference. Amanda has volunteered her professional services during our conferences since 2006. The professional portraits you see of our family members on the BSF website and in our publications have been taken by Amanda. I have frequently been reminded about the value of these images when a new parent says The boy on the website looks just like my son or The boy on the website looks just like my son when he was that age. Throughout our conference families will be appointed for a sitting with Amanda to expand our library of portraits library. It is always a highlight of our Conference Finale to see a sampling of these portraits in Amanda s Finale Presentation. It is a perfect way to end this wonderful event. We are so pleased that a record number of affected families will be attending our biennial conference this summer. This does pose a bit of a challenge in scheduling our appointments for individual sessions such as our portrait appointments. Amanda has graciously agreed to begin taking photos of our families on Sunday, July 17 th this year. This is two days earlier than we have begun in previous years. We will be asking our families to who are arriving prior to the 17 th to help us out by being photographed on the pre-conference dates. Attire for Portraits The selection of proper clothing for your photo session is a critical factor in the preparation for a successful portrait. If the clothing is noticeable in a portrait, it could easily become a distraction. Clothing that does not attract attention to itself is the
ultimate goal. It could be the difference between a very successful portrait and just another picture. Clothing should not be too tight or too loose. Remember your child s photo and your family portraits will be used in our publication materials and on our website. Often times these portraits are arranged in a collage or grouped together on our website or in our publications. Therefore we strongly encourage our families to wear the similar attire. We would ideally like all of our family members to wear a long sleeved black or white shirt and full-length blue jeans. You decide on the shirt color but please make it the same color for all individuals being photographed in your group. NOTE: An inventory of black shirts has been available in the past. However, Amanda will not be bringing black shirts this year. Solid Color Clothing: Should you elect NOT to wear the recommended black or white shirt with full-length pants remember dark clothing allows the faces to become the most important part of the photograph. The color of the clothing should always be toned down. Bright colors (i.e., yellow, pink, bright green, etc.) attract attention away from the face. White shirts will also allows the faces to become the most important part of the photograph. Loud prints, fad clothing, and busy patterns become a distraction. Avoid Short Sleeve Clothing And Short Pants: Long sleeved clothing is a MUST! It is equally important to wear long pants instead of shorts. When arms and legs are exposed to the camera there will be more flesh in the photograph in those areas than on the face itself. Little legs are an exception. We also understand it is sometimes difficult to find a good fit of full-length pants for little guys. Therefore it may be a better option for them to wear shorts. Family Portrait Attire: Attire for these photos should be casual. Clothing for family portraits must be carefully selected to blend the bodies together. As stated above we recommend long-sleeved white or black shirts with full-length blue jeans. However should you elect not to be photographed in this attire you should first, decide whether the basic tone of clothing is going to be warm-toned (browns etc.) or cool-toned (blues/grays/blacks etc.) Then make sure to follow all of the above instructions. Bare feet: Be prepared to take those shoes off, so have clean feet! Some of the cutest photos we have are of our families wearing no shoes. Little toes and feet are especially irresistible.
Most Importantly It is our goal to capture a quality image of your family. These images are as much of a treasure to us as they are to you. If you are not comfortable wearing certain colors, styles, long sleeves, fulllength jeans then it will show in your portrait. We provide these recommendations in an effort to get the best images we can of your family. Ultimately we just want to get quality images of your family. Other Important Reminders Be Prompt: These sessions are scheduled back-to- back from 9:00 AM 5:00 PM. Please appreciate it will be necessary for you to arrive on time for your session to avoid any delays. All parties who wish to borrow a black shirt for their portrait session are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to select the appropriate sized shirt. Families with larger groups generally require longer sessions and sometimes run over. Therefore we generally appoint larger groups at the end of the day. Small children can get cranky when it is time to eat and time to sleep. The best time of day to get the best images with little ones is early in the morning. Therefore we generally appoint families with little ones in the early morning slots. Poses that will be captured: Entire family Affected individual All brothers and sisters together Mother and affected individual Father and affected individual Note: Grandparents are encouraged to come to your portrait session. They will be included in the family group photo and a pose of the grandparent(s) with the affected individual Portraits Available for Purchase You may view the images of your family immediately following your family portrait session. Should time not allow you to view your images you may make an appointment to go back to view these images later in the week. Amanda does extend a discount rate
for our group for packages and individual images. Pricing discounts will be announced in the near future. Shortly after the conference you will receive notice with a link where edited images may be viewed online. Group rates are also extended for any post-conference orders you may wish to make. Details about how to place your order for images will be provided at that same time as well. Amanda Clark Photography 1626 N. Group Photos Affected Individuals: Sandpiper Deck Monday, June 23 rd, 3:00 PM Affected individuals and at least one parent of minor children will meet on the Sandpiper, covered deck which is just to the north of the hotel s outdoor dining area. Attire for this particular group photo is candid however we do ask that children are dressed with a shirt and pants and not in beach attire. We are disappointed all affected individuals will not yet be in Clearwater for this group photo. This group photo will be presented to our conference speakers. The scientists and clinicians who attend our conference often remind us how meaningful it is to meet our families and the people who will benefit from their research. They have said their favorite gift from us has been a photo of those who have Barth syndrome. This image must be developed and framed for approximately 50 speakers by the start of the educational sessions two days after the photo is taken! Carrier Females: Sandpiper Deck Thursday, June 26 th, 10:30 AM (During morning break) During this conference we will be expanding our family services programs by developing a program to specifically serve our Barth syndrome carriers 1. All carrier females of all ages are welcomed in this group photo. Scientific and Medical Attendees: Sandpiper Deck Thursday, June 26 th, 1:00 PM (Immediately following lunch) A group photo of all scientific and medical attendees will be taken immediately following lunch. After this photo has been taken Science and Medicine attendees will join all other attendees for the group photo of all attendees on the beach just in front of the Sandpiper deck. SPECIAL ANNOUCEMENT This year we will capture an image of our group in the shape of BSF logo. While the scientific and medical attendees are being photographed for their group photo families are asked to report to the beach area just in front of the Sandpiper deck where volunteers will position family attendees for the group image. Full Group Photo: On the beach just outside of the Sandpiper Deck Thursday, June 26 th, 1:00 PM (Immediately following lunch) One of the best ways to see how our organization has grown is to look at the group photos we have taken over the years. This year s group photo will reflect the largest 1 Further details about the BTHS Carrier Support initiative may be referenced in the BSF conference program
conference audience we have ever had. This is very exciting. There is limited time available to capture these images between sessions. Remember boys with Barth syndrome are very sensitive to the heat. Please be on time and responsive to the direction of the photographer so that we may capture this moment in a photo in as short amount of time as possible. There are only six stalls in the conference center restrooms. To avoid potty break delays (particularly on this day). Please make time allowances for any breaks you may need to take prior to this group photo. Your assistance is required to ensure the group photo doesn t interfere with the scheduled educational sessions. We ask that you don t plan to take pictures with your own camera or ask the photographer to take a photo with your camera. Multiple flashes will distort the quality of the image we wish the professional photographer to capture. Our way of saying thank you for your cooperation will be to provide each family with a printed copy of the group photo during the Saturday Finale. Youth Group Photos: Sandpiper Deck, Lower Level Thursday, June 26 th, 2:00 PM After the full group photo of all attendees has been taken childcare and youth volunteers will receive children and youth on the lower level of the Sandpiper deck where additional group images of the youth will be taken. After these smaller group photos have been taken youth and childcare activities will resume in their designated activity areas. Poses for Youth Photos All affected individuals and siblings All affected individuals (NOTE: A group photo of affected individuals will be taken on Monday afternoon for the purpose of speaker s gifts.
