Page : 2 of 22 Results-Framework Document (RFD) for Indian Bureau of Mines-(2014-2015) Section 1: Vision, Mission, Objectives and Functions Vision IBM to perform as a National Technical Regulator and to discharge the developmental functions for the sustainable development of the mineral industry and to work as repository of database on mines and minerals Mission 1) To ensure effective regulation of Indian Mineral Sector which promotes long term benefits for its sustainable growth.2) to provide capacity building to State regulatory agencies and also to provide quality technical assistance to the mineral industry. 3) To work as data bank on mines and minerals and to disseminate mineral information for policy formulations. Objectives 1 Inspection of Mines 2 Preparation of Mineral Maps with Forest Overlays 3 Development of Project on computerized online register of Mining Tenement System (MTS) 4 Ore Dressing Investigations 5 Indian Minerals Year Book (IMYB) 6 Compilation of Monthly Statistics on Mineral Production (MSMP) 7 Technical Consultancy and Mining Research Studies 8 Internal audit for MCDR Inspections. 9 Scrutiny and processing of Statutory Returns. 10 Human Resource Development & Capacity building for Central & State Government and other stakeholders 11 Facilitating techno-economic and scientific development in the mineral sector Functions 1 a) Indian Bureau of Mines is engaged in the promotion of scientific development of mineral resources of the country, conservation of minerals, protection of environment in mines, other than coal, petroleum and natural gas, atomic mineral and minor minerals. 2 3 b) Regulatory functions, with respect to the relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and enforcement of the rules framed there under namely Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 1988 and Mineral Concession Rules, 1960. c) Monitoring certain provisions of the Environmental (Protection) Act, 1986 and Rules made there under. 14/05/2014 11.5

Page : 3 of 22 Results-Framework Document (RFD) for Indian Bureau of Mines-(2014-2015) Section 1: Vision, Mission, Objectives and Functions 4 5 6 d) Undertakes scientific, techno-economic, research oriented studies in various aspects of mining, geological studies and environmental studies. e) Research & Development studies in the field of mineral beneficiation, mineral characterization, chemical analysis and analysis of environmental samples. f) Preparation of mineral maps and a countrywide inventory of mineral resources of leasehold and freehold areas. 7 g) Promotion and monitor community development activities in mining areas. 8 h) Functioning as data bank of mines and minerals and publishes statistical periodicals. 9 i) Bringing out technical publications/ monographs on individual mineral commodities and bulletins of topical interest. 10 j) Play advisory role to Central and State Governments on all aspects of mineral industry, trade, legislation, etc. 11 K) Imparts training to technical and non-technical officials of IBM and also persons from the mineral industry and other agencies in India and abroad. 14/05/2014 11.5
